F1 - 2018 | Halo switch?

CavSTiagoCavSTiago Member Race Steward
Do you want a button on/off to the Halo?
So, you can enable or disable Halo (visually).

These are two edited double reposts of my past comments regarding this particular topic.

(Am a lazy bas****, i know.....)

    ------------------------------

On Assetto Corsa you can change the cam however you want and there are plenty of vids on YouTube, "madotter" for example, that show how little efffect the Halo has on visibility especially in T-Cam view:

    ------------------------------

Please for the sake of realism do not make the Halo invisible.

    Better try to give us:

-more options and parameters to play around with in the camera settings (so that we can adjust the camera more freely and make the factor of visibility become null)

-a much better "look to apex" function (so that we can drive in cockpit mode without having to buy a VR headset or TOBI device, and most importantly to get a more natural feel to it)

-a helmet cam (so that we can have more realism, visor tear offs and customizable visor tints could also become a thing this way seeing as your survey did include dlc accessories etc.)

-full VR support (so that we can jump right into it and have the most realistic experience of all, seriously, try VR once and you will never want to go back to normal racing anymore).

    Etc. Etc. Etc.

There are infinitely better solutions out there to make the experience in cockpit mode much more enjoyable, but turning off the Halo will only harm "officiality", especially as we are talking about a "officially licenced F1 product" after all, aren't we.....?!

As much as I dislike the halo itself I would rather Codemasters followed real life and gave as best a representation of what the drivers themselves experience in real life visually.
Although I dislike it from the T-cam angle on TV and think it would look better if there was a camera within the halo itself, I would still rather it was in the game for realism.

Only thing I do wish Codemasters can implement is a transparency slider for those that use cockpit cam, leaving it up to the player to set it how they like in recreating the effects of looking beyond an object that’s closer and in front of your eyes.

I'm sure the game will have higher and better camera than the real one. No halo switch for me but a transparent option for cockpit view is needed. The driver can see through the halo in real life (the only way to replicate that is by making it transparent unless the user is playing in VR)

Its regulation and so part of the official design, it doesn't affect visuals bar a thin bar in centre of screen in cockpit view, realistic view.

Transparent halo wont happen for sponsorship reasons aswell.

At first I thought a switch was ok.

But now I think the halo is an improtant part of F1. If you aren't driving with the halo, you are not driving an F1 car. If you are not having the halo, why not drop the front wing too ? Where does it stop ?

Always believed that there should be a top leaderboard with no assists, cockpit cam etc. This should be the prestige leaderboard that is as close to real racing as the game gets.

Automobilista has halos you can turn on or off, here's how they look:

Im actually surprised more players dont want a option to turn it off than do. I wouldnt have guessed that.

To be honest what does it matter? Only reason I can come with is it restricts vision. But in the other hand if you drive from cockpit haven't you choose to drive from there to be as realistic it can get? Of course it never can look the same as you would drive the real formula, but I would guess it will be pretty close. Field of view will blend the middle bar away (mostly). And as far as I know you will not be looking straight when you drive, only exception is in the straights, but even then you would use that time to press more buttons or less buttons.

From the T-cam it's just sitting there and only people who complain about that are those who complain about tree leaves quality next to track or stuff like that.

The "vocal majority", usually, is indeed "quite small" in comparison to those that either don't care or are on the "other side" of the discussion.

Hence why "democracy" is a mistake.....

For better or worse, the halo is now part of F1. I don't see it going anywhere soon. Unless force fields are invented.

Since it is part of F1, why would someone who wants an F1-like experience not want it ? Generally people want to feel the car is as close to an F1 car as possible. Or at least that is the view I get from the majority on this site. Therefore most people want the halo.

Dealing with the halo is going to be part of being a good F1 driver in the future. Dealing with the halo therefore should be part of being a good F1 games player in the future too.

If codies allow the switch off, I think that's fine, but it should count as an assist and lower prestige on leaderboards.

Guys, it won’t happen, and here’s why. The FOM license as I understand it requires all team sponsors that aren’t alcohol brands to be represented as they are on the real cars. Since teams are selling halo space for sponsors, they will be required to represent it as such because of the licensing deal. I’d love for Codemasters to come out and say I’m wrong, but im fairly certain this is the state of the matter

cockpit view is going to work from how everything is scaled in the game for your TV. For example, playing on a large tv will indeed make the halos front post appear even larger, but so will everything else on the screen, like the track and a car your following will also appear larger to match. The only way its going to block your complete view of a car your following is when that car you are following is way,way ahead of you... The only real issue it will cause that will launch most players into orbit, Will be they wont be able to use these unrealistic super large FOV camera setting alot of players try and use. They wont be able to unrealistically try and fit their mirrors on the screen. They wont be able to sit super far back in the cockpit like players do and they wont be able to sit super high in the cockpit anymore like they currently do. Instead are going to have to sit as low as possible in the cockpit to see under the top post. The players that cant handle using a more realist low FOV that has a lower  sense of speed they are used to are going to throw a fit.

Again I'll mention how some games do a fuzzy focus effect on the dashboard/in-car, as you go faster (NFS Shift/Project CARS) it's possible they could use that sort of approach to blur the halo a bit, as though you're looking past it?

Actually I didn't wanted the halo and still don't won't it, but somehow it doesn't looks so bad. Now, currently I got used it. The chance to get a on/off is very low. So low that it won't happen.

I don't care too much what happened in the past. I prefer to focus on what is coming next and I am really looking forward to it.

Simply racing a Formula 1 car is an achievement.

You can't change what happened. But you can still change what will happen.

For cockpit view there should be an option to disable the Halo from view, or make it transparent at least. Let’s face it, of course the game is about racing, but we want to enjoy the view as well!

I’m really surprised that people are very fanatic about not giving other gamers such an option. If such an option is available, it’s everybody’s personal choice to enable or disable the Halo from view.
