F1 2017 online - public lobbies

This game is basically unplayable online. This night I lost more than an hour trying to even start a race! It's insane how buggy and unstable this game is. People who pay to play online should seriously get a refund because it's unbearable. I haven't had a single day without bugs. Constantly crashing lobby, people failing to load and game failing to kick them, desync issues and so on and so forth. Keep in mind this happens everytime you play. I'm sick of it.

So much exaggeration. Starting a race is as easy as pressing ready in lobby. In the public lobby races (and a season of league races) the problem has never been to start a game.

Yes, starting the game is easy, starting/joining an open lobby unfortunately is not.
Custom lobbies are more or less "bugfree", however, open lobbies are truly far from that.
I played so many open lobbies since the release of this game and i can confirm that what @c1rcle612 says is mostly true.

There were many days in which it took me at least half an hour to join a "working" lobby as well because the game seems to have no "Connection Timeout", or at least one that does not seem to work as intended.
Players who exit the game in qualifying/race seem to be still recognized in the lobby. In that case, no data is received from that player meaning that the others are stuck in the "Waiting For Players" black screen until the gone player returns. Usually most players recognize that bug and close the game to find a new lobby once they restart it. Surely not all players know about "ALT+F4" or "Task Manager" so they are basically screwed when they get stuck in the "Waiting For Players" screen. This is why there ALWAYS needs to be a "Return to Main Menu" option should something go wrong while loading.

Usually, in the case of a player leaving the lobby in an ongoing session, every online game has a "Connection Timeout" feature that helps speed up the progression into the next session. This feature kicks players who sent no data to the host or server in a specific amount of time, usually around 30s.

The desync issues i can confirm too.
There were many situations in a race where people slowly force me on the grass off-track as if i was not there at all.
When adding them on Steam and asking them what happened they say i was behind them on their screens.

I was also involved in a desync issue in a league race.
Through turn 5 on the Hungarian GP i was on the inside of a driver and we left each other more than enough space.
Still, even without contact on my screen, he suddenly spun.
The driver showed me his recorded POV and on his end i completely sideswiped him into a spin

Usually i have a very fast and stable internet connection and we were all in neighboring countries so ping should not have been an issue.
At least it was not in 99.9% of the lobbies we raced in so far.
I have not had a desync issue in a league since.

Well, it does not happen everytime.
If that was the case then online would truly be completely broken.

However it does happen VERY often and i completely understand your frustration.
    I am an online player.
I don't play against the AI very much in "Grand Prix" mode or "Career".
A stable online gameplay, even after 10 patches, is the minimum to convince me to buy their games.
I was tricked last year but this year i will not make the same mistake again.
I will wait and observe a lot before i make a decision.

@UP100 I also raced in AOR last season and two races had to be rerun because of the game not running properly. I don't know what platform you play on, I am on PC. If this was as easy as pressing a button I would have never made this post. The problem is not entering a lobby, it's about getting into the actual game. Maybe I can provide some footage later in the day to show you guys what I mean. I won't have to record too long for this to happen...

I mean there really isn't any "fix" to desync issues as every P2P game has those issues. I could list some of them here:
    -Payday 2
    -Civilization V and VI
    -GTA IV
    -SE & ME by Keen
    -Terraria
    -Company of Heroes 2
    -Total War Rome 2
    -Watch Dogs
    -Assassin's Creed games

Those are just few I own. Each game has desync issues when one of the players' computer isn't quick enough, that's why some games kick you for not having a quick enough computer (GTA 4 & EFLC for example kick you if the computer is running too slowly to avoid major desync issues)

@MrGhostO1O Everyting you pointed out I experienced in the same way. Maybe I exaggerated a bit when stating that it happens everytime but I was so frustrated after yesterday's attempt to play the game that the post was definitely influenced by it.

I don't like when people justify games because different ones have the same kind of problems. It just doesn't make sense. If the architecture they used is not reliable in this application then it shouldn't have been chosen in the first place.

You didn't understand. The problem is not some bad code, it's the player. I guess with that logic we will lose multiplayer forever.

Bottom line is whether it's to do with de-sync or just a **** ton of bugs the game does not offer the experience it is advertised to do and that is just not an acceptable situation, and a big part of the problem is people like you go on defending codies no matter how bad things are.

I never claimed the multiplayer would be good. I just stated that there will always be some desync as P2P connections are used which means ultimately the players' hardware and connection speed is the limiting factor.

He did not really defend anyone or anything here but simply stated counter arguments. Let's deescalate this a little again and calm down.

Indeed it certainly does not offer the advertised experience and no it definitely is not an acceptable situation.
IMHO the game price should have been just dropped from 55€ to 25€ after 3 months of the online fiasco.
Turning on the Safety Car feature online is still a big risk because of the SC-Bug that causes the SC to come out every 3 laps.

I hope for their own sake that they get a grip when developing future official Formula 1 games and make sure that the game is in a stable, working condition on release day. I am sure that the devs can make a good game worth the 55€ if they try hard enough but seeing so many issues in the details (that are not completely missing in the current game :-/ ) of F1 2017 makes them look like they were either lazy, focusing too much on another thing or lack staff. Either way it is not healthy for them and the Esports at all as it is becoming more and more popular in the Formula 1 world. It is basically like the 2015-2017 Honda F1 engine. As long as they struggle with the reliability they won't be able to add more and immersive content that everyone so desperately desires in the "F1 2018 - Game Ideas" thread.

    Immersive content like:
    • A "minimap" for drivers and spectators with driver specific icons (red circle with the drivers number in the middle for ferrari) to know the location of your rivals on the track (very important for race strategy).

    • Different tyre icons in "Race Director" to identify fresh and used tyre sets as well as how long they have been used (basically the first lap of a new set has the "fresh" icon and every lap after that has the "used" icon).

These small little details can make the game more immersive and enjoyable for spectators and drivers in both online and offline gameplay.
    Yet they are still missing.
