It’s time for a brand new classic car reveal! And today, we’re very happy to announce that Williams has become the latest team to have iconic cars recreated in F1™ 2017, the official videogame of the 2017 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. Below, you can find the two classic Williams cars we’re featuring in F1 2017, including the previously unannounced 1996 Williams FW18. The video’s also on our YouTube channel here:

F1 2017 features an even deeper career mode, numerous multiplayer enhancements, and a brand new ‘Championships’ game mode as well as the return of classic cars. Both the 1992 Williams FW14B and the 1996 Williams FW18 will be playable in F1 2017 when it releases on  the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC (DVD and via Steam) worldwide on August 25th 2017.

If you aren’t too familiar with the two Williams cars that are going to feature in F1 2017, here’s a little bit about them:

  • 1992 Williams FW14B – Driven by Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese during the 1992 Formula 1™ season, the FW14B was the dominant car in which Mansell won the Drivers’ Championship, with a then record breaking nine wins in the season.

  • 1996 Williams FW18 – The most successful car of the 1996 season, winning 12 of the 16 races, with Damon Hill triumphing eight times to Jacques Villeneuve’s four, winning Hill the Drivers’ Championship title, and Williams the Constructors’ Championship.

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, Williams Racing said: “The FW14B is one of our most iconic cars and one of my personal favourites. With Nigel Mansell behind the wheel, it was a force to be reckoned with and provided one of our greatest eras as a team in Formula One. The FW18 of 1996 is statistically our most successful ever car, winning 12 out of 16 races, six of which were one-two finishes, on our way to securing the Constructors’ title. We are delighted that these cars are being included in this year’s new F1 game for 2017. It is a special year for us as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, so a perfect moment to celebrate two cars that we are so proud of at Williams. We hope that gamers will love driving them as they remember some great moments from the history of our sport.”

The two Williams cars join the already-announced 1995 Ferrari 412 T2, 2002 Ferrari F2002, 2004 Ferrari F2004, 2007 Ferrari F2007 and 2010 Red Bull Racing RB6 – and the 1988 McLaren MP4/4. We’re not finished though, we’ve got more classic cars to reveal in the coming weeks.

Oh, and we’re very excited to be able to reveal our boxart to the world. Expanding on what we did last year for F1 2016, where we had a main cover design and a different design for the Americas, this year we now have versions for Australia, Netherlands/Belgium/Luxembourg, as well as the Americas, alongside our main version. You can find them all below!

    The cover is again, disappointing.

    Bland and uninspired.

Maybe have one or two drivers in some sort of celebration pose, something like Fifa has had at times.

Or something similar to F1 Career Challenge, that's a great cover.

I liked when Codemasters had a driver done so that it wasn't a certain driver, like 2010 and a few others had but it might not fit with where the game is at now.

I hope Lewis quits after this season. No need to see this face again and again when I launch the game!

Massa and Perez on the Americas box art? Alonso's Indycar race made him quite popular here in North America.  I get Perez, he's a popular Mexican but Massa???  Should be replaced by Alonso for the NA version.

i dont really care about the cover, but its a little bit too busy for my liking, should have been emaybe only Hamilton and Vettel in an action, but i take even a game without a cover as long as its good

yeah neither do I really I getto busy playing the game t oworry about how the box looks. Besides if I do get it this year I'll likely just get it directly from Steam. So I won't have a box to worry about.

Must admit though I'm loving the fact that both Mansell's and Hill's cars are back in this game enjoyed racing both those classics in 2013 probably the only thing I did enjoy about that game. So it's good to see they'll be back among the classics for 2017

So, same Williamses as in F1 2013... How original... Why not the 1994 or 1997. The 2004 with the walrus nose would also have been cool, not to mention at least giving the 2004 Ferrari a car it could actually compete against...

    Partially
functional games should not charge anywhere near full retail price. • If a game is ready to sell, it should be ready to play. • Launch day should not be the start of a public retail beta. • 'Limited resources' & the impossibility of 'perfection' are not justifications for poor quality. • Pre-ordering & buying games at launch is paying for the worst version of the game at its highest price - it'll function better after it's patched, and there are always discount sales later. Why pay full price up-front to be a post-launch beta tester? • As long as people continue buying it, companies will continue selling it. • If we want good quality, we have to stop buying & funding bad quality. #NeverPreOrder
