I’d love this, but I can’t get my head round D4 to even attempt it.

Its encouraging to see cool things still happening though...

does nothing to improve the 70s cars I loved on DR.
Really? I love the 70's cars in D4. The Ford Escort is my favorite 70s car, love driving that thing.
I love racing. Going for the perfectly clean, well executed overtake is the best feeling. If I have to though, I might move you out of my way (no hard feelings).

Good for them if it encourages player numbers, but personally no interest at all if it's on the same 15-20km of tiles as I've driven over 100s of times already. At least it's with one of the better handling cars. I presume that's what the week's mooted road book will be about too. Sorry to be a Grinch, but 'meh'; I'm not a world beater and whilst I enjoy online racing (albeit prefer offline), this isn't for me.

Will leave my negative vibes here, won't clog up the announcement thread.
I'd have to agree. It might be fun for Luke, Porky, and Dgeesi0, but other than that....
i will be honest it for dirt 4 so doubt i will do it. also most likelt wont be able to make event anyways. no point in entering if cant make it . that happened last time we had this for dirt rally on sweet lamb.i won it but couldnt go.
If you - or anyone else - wants to win in by playing the whole thing online, then I am willing to go to Silverstone to drive the RX2 for you. ;)
There you go @dgeesi0 , do it for tbstesttestbest.
Maybe they'll let him have a spin if we all vote for him like we did with the PS4 copy. :P

Haha! Swinging the PS4 coy of DiRT Rally was absolutely awesome, but I think a drive in an RX2 is too much, even for the DiRT community!

well despite some negativity, I would say this is good news. normally, a competition system means more improvements in almost every aspect of the game, so I presume we will see more locations, more cars and updated physics and FFB. As  always the main goal is to improve to make competition stiffer and more balanced

That strikes me as optimistic in the extreme. Surely if the competition starts (next week), they're not going to make large changes to the physics in that time (although arguably large changes aren't required).

I highly doubt we will see any physics changes at all for D4 to be fair.

physics changes are really hoping to be honest. We cant get any communication about the state of anything lol

I think physics are partially tied to the tracks/stages to, so tweaking both is quite an undertaking for a console game company.

never understood ..................you watch any video of drivers and biggest issue always is tire choice .So why  we cant have that in a rally "sim"

Stages aren't long enough. Softs would always be fastest as the would last so there would be no gamble.
Monte is ofcourse another story, but we would need more stage variety.

Basically the game would need more weather variation to make tyre choice interesting which is a tough ask to develop (not impossible as pcars 2 has shown), and it would need to not give you all the information about the weather so that some people get it wrong which would make some people angry. Definitely not as simple as just giving tyre choice (which the wrc series does but you basically just pick soft on short stages and hards on epic stages which is not interesting at all)
  • RodgerDaviesRodgerDavies Member Champion
Yeah, it's not worth it IMO, plenty of other developments I'd personally prefer to see over tyres and weather variation during a ten minute stage.

isnt there plenty of sub-10k stages currently? we could lock in TIRE choice so  youre stuck with it for a few ,until service.
IMHO it would give variations in traction/ surface grip and would be great to have that .As if you made wrong choice , you lose.
this is just my opinions. Its a sim if all is simualted.Since its a big parts of rallying,it could be in the games .

I think the first thing we need is longer stages with more variety in them. I like to watch onboards of the WRC because of the great driving but also because the scenery changes and every stage feels a little bit like a journey, you see different places with individual characteristics and so on...
With these kind of stages, and longer pauses between service parks, tyre choice could be interesting, for example in a 3 stages loop with lenghts of 25, 10 and 18 km.

AFAIK it was the publisher used by Codies.

Also take a look at this, real procedural stages.

Procedural Rally Generator & League Home

When DiRT 4 was announced, I was excited to finally get procedural rally stages. But, like many others, I was left disappointed at release with the tile system they used to create their stages. It was the same corners over and over again.
So, in October I decided to try to create procedural stages, and this is where I'm at now!

My procedural rally generator is a program written in C++ that creates procedural stages without the use of tiles. It generates the terrain, road, trees, and vegetation from scratch. The only thing not procedural is the textures used in the track.

All stages generated are made to be compatible with any moddable sim or game out there, and should work well for sims/games released in the future as well. Currently, my main testing platform is Assetto Corsa due to how easy it is to mod, and I have server infrastructure for it for the league.

I'm working on this project during my free time, and if you'd like to support my work you can donate to me through PayPal (link/button above)!

    @KickUp ; hire that guy.

Amazing stuff! Software that brings real roads into sim game! Created by one guy in his free time! Why we don`t have a rally game using similar tech in 2018? Anyone?
