2 pointsAnother major reason to take over a company is to STOP competition in its tracks. Instead of being embarrassed by a smaller company doing a better job with some of their assets you take over the company and take those assets for yourself. Or discontinue those assets as they don't fit in with your project plans. Project Cars for example had the cars, tracks and weather nailed down but contained in a poor package overall, with a poor career mode that just connected a series of different races together. I dont think well ever see another public released sim from sms now, except maybe in the corporate sector as has already been mentioned as a goal. If a developer buys out ALL its competition it no longer needs to even try to improve its own project. In this case though there is no reason why track licensing and creation that is already completed cannot be assimilated into future F1 games. If it isn't then what a lost opportunity that is.

2 pointsI think you misunderstand my argument. Simulation software does replicate driving physics, and as such a reasonable driving experience can be had. That is my point. If that were not the case race teams and car manufacturers would not use them. The accuracy depends on the quality of the software and the power of the computer, and that as you rightly say, depends on your budget. What we can have at home today, in terms of hardware software/technology, is (for arguments sake) equal to what the pro's had 3-5 years ago. So regardless of it being a pro rig or a home rig, a reasonable driving experience can be had on a simulator at home. Consoles are CPU limited, which is why the best simulators can be found on a PC. Games such as rFactor and Project Cars have pro versions on which car manufacturers and race teams run their simulations. No doubt those with the budget have their own bespoke solutions. Games such as codemasters f1 series, forza and GTS are just that, games! What they simulate only those who can see the code can tell for sure, but are arguably very poor in comparison to what the pro's use. As the title of the thread implies, codemasters f1 series is rather poor, arguably one of the worst, when it comes to a pure driving simulation. However credit where credit is due in terms of a replication of a season in the sport, it is the best available.

2 pointsIt's a game and should be fun to drive. Either go for extreme realism and add assists for beginners, or go full arcade but allow better drivers to add more realism to their tastes. Having it somewhere in the middle to start with is like sitting on the fence. Nobody is really happy.

1 pointXbox One X. HDR switched off. Below are direct screen captures, straight to disk. This is Poland at 2pm in the afternoon, on an overcast day. Away from the clumps of trees, there is light. Get into the tree clumps, and you see this. This is absurd, and no fun for anybody. In-game brightness is at normal. Increasing it does not help the problem. @PJTierney@urgaffel Please, the lack of ambient lighting in this game needs some love. Thanks.

1 pointI try to race clean in GRID 2019, as I do any other racing game, but the AI brake so early before every corner and they will also aggressively block you on the straights, so collisions are inevitable. But the way collisions are handled seems really frustrating. When you are on a straight and you’re about to overtake a car in front (the AI never seem to use more than 90% throttle), the AI will always swerve into you, and I have lost track of how many times they’ve swerved into my fender and sent me spinning as if my car had no weight, while they just keep on going. Into the corners, I have found that you can use the AI drivers in front as instant brakes, as they are impenetrable walls whenever they are in front of you. And to take it a step further and go from aggressive driving to ‘hostile’ driving, you can go deep into the corner and as long as your car’s bumper is in front of the other car’s bumper when you make contact, they will be sent spinning instead, and you can carry on without repercussion. I think the most frustrating thing is when you accidentally bump the rear of an AI car, often on the straights given they swerve in front of you and never use full throttle, and your car kind of ‘glues’ to theirs, as if the AI is so bewildered at a slight bump that they then get completely off the throttle, giving up and ruining both their race and yours. So you try to steer to get around them and ‘unstick’ yourself, but of course they are in front and so they are an impenetrable wall, and you manage to spin yourself out on a straight. Just some thoughts on the collision system. It’s the main reason why I find this game more frustrating than fun. Anyone else feel the same?

1 pointI'm not sure why you are so hard pressed to defend this, but it seems you feel that it's an absolute impossibility that Codemasters will ever use laser scanned tracks, and you seem to have lots of reasons for that. Again, I know it takes resources. You and I have no idea what rF2 did with that data for that period of time. For all we know, the track was designed and ready to go, but they had problems integrating it into their systems. Or maybe they had completely unrelated problems that delayed the release. They will surely never tell their secrets to the likes of you and me. In the end, none of that matters. We, the players, are hoping to see laser scanned tracks in the future. If Codemasters wants to do that, they will surely be able to figure out how. (PS: Nürburgring is one of the longest and most complicated tracks on the planet, and more than 4 times longer than any F1 track on the calendar.)

1 pointThey don't actually have to laser scan them, most tracks have the scans already done that you can licence, codemasters concentrate on graphics so I don't see it as they will have to employ more people, just reassign the graphics guys tasks. If small studios with tiny budgets like S397 can do it, there's nothing you can say to defend why codemasters couldn't shouldn't etc

1 pointI think you're making this a lot more complicated than I originally meant. If SMS is a studio, then yes, they will want to make their own games. But if they are known for laser scanning tracks and integrating that into their games, AND Codemasters brought them on as an affiliate (I'm not aware of their exact business relationship), AND Codemasters has an interest in using laser scanning to increase the realism and accuracy of the game (as players have requested) then this is a great opportunity to do so.

1 pointI think this might be best plan going forward. The world doesn't really change (except minor track tweaks from time to time) and physics certainly doesn't change, so there's no reason all tracks, underlying physics code, netcode, etc can't be a "Base Game" with all cars, drivers, liveries, and game modes just being part of that world. Each year we get the new tracks, new cars and drivers, liveries, and new features. These can all be DLC, instead of a stand-alone game. Price could even stay the same, considering the offering is the same as it is now. All "old" content could easily be kept, as it already exists in the "game world." I know this would require a complete (or mostly complete) rewrite of the entire game, but it would give Codemasters a chance to fix the physics, handling, AI, Safety Car, netcode, and release a stellar product that makes both casual gamers happy, as well as hardcore F1 racers.

1 pointA couple of days ago I've also noticed that I lost progress on the Colin scenarios, only because I had to unlock the 4th series again. But I can't figure if it did actually happen some time before, as I didn't touch that game mode for more than a week. Also had a career championship progress reset message (which discarded the rx championship in progress) in one of those bad connection days since last playing Colin scenarios, so it could have been at that point.

1 pointThanks for all the replies and support guys, I bought the Year one Pass, and I couldn't be happier with it, the new locations are amazing, however I don't really like Baumholder. I haven't touched upon RallyCross at all but will in the future.

1 pointI played Geoff Crammond's GP4 recently, it's incredible how good this game still is nowadays, especially the AI. I don't know why this AI hasn't been replicated and improved in these last 18 years. They make mistakes, they crash, they actually challenge you when overtaking and defending. Going back to F1, I'm sad it's the way it is, because I've preordered it since F1 2016. When the game works flawlessly I enjoy my time, I can even overlook the ffb and maybe get used to it, and I can have fun. An example is a league race I had a couple of weeks ago at COTA. No practice at all, I jump into the race, start 17th and finished 5th (but 7th actually due to penalties), lot of fun, lot of battles. I really enjoyed it. But it's one in a million, the ffb is weird and changes from mode to mode, or the multiplayer breaks and you have to restart the race, or red flag it, suspend, or the game crashes with no reasons, or there's a random dc even if the internet is ok. All these things are a real turn off. Which is a shame, because the actual gameplay might not be as realistic as codies wants us to believe, but the game is pretty good at simulating the race weekend, and all the F1 experience, and it has a lot of cool historic cars (even if I don't understand why I can't choose which cars I want in a race. Damn I have 3 2010 cars which I love and I can't race with them and only with them)

1 pointA small multiplayer thing I think would be cool for streams and such, staggered starts for rally lobbies. Could potentially have options ranging from "Start at 1 minute intervals" to "Start when previous driver has finished". Would make livestreaming rallies a little more interesting than switching between live views, although the way that WRC8 shows all the ghosts in real time is neat too. 🙂

1 pointHi guys, got word on Bonus Challenges earlier but been busy, so here goes: The dev team has added a bunch of new/extra Challenges based on forum feedback. Some are "hardcore", with restricted assists, hardcore damage, higher surface degradation, severe weather etc. Others feature less commonly-used cars, to encourage you all to try them out.

All I hope that with the arrival of the new consoles at the end of the year the quality of all games improves alot cause they don't have to tone it down so much for consoles. And that codemasters if they make a new grid get rid of this stupid 3/5 race lobbies and a playlist for little children system. And go back to the multiplayer style from the original grid. Like no setup in multiplayer (let the driver be the most important thing to win a race again) Chat text, spectate mode and the players in the lobby decide again wich class and wich track are next by most votes count

1 pointWhat is really disappointing is that Liberty Media don't care about their product. You sold licenses for a buzzer and that's it. What about F1 image and the young drivers like MAx or Lando, who are Marketing Machines? Licenses should not be exclusive, this kills the competition. CM always focuses on the wrong things like graphics or "linear storyline" in career. focus on essentials: gameplay, handling, penalty system, online lobbies, AI, damage system, mechanical failures...to name a few

1 pointPlatform: PC Steam 2D Setup: GTX 1070, Core i3, 16GB RAM Peripherals: Xbox One S Controller The Ford Fiesta OMSE Supercar Lites "carry over" the windshield status from previous crashes, even from other cars, even from other game modes. I don't know if it applies to any other cars. It is only fixed by restarting the game. A streamable link to the video of the bug is provided below. In the video, I demonstrate that the windshield is in good condition when you start the game. I then crash another car such that the windshield cracks.
