That’s because he forced it to happen. He ran down a component to complete 100% wear - that part he doesn’t tell you. I’ve done that multiple times. You can too, but it just means you have loss of power the whole race.

1 minute ago, tarrantino said:This has been discussed for years. I remember Steve Hood saying it wasn’t being put in as players didn’t want to get lap 59 of 61 for example and lose the race. Didn’t realise that this was what people wanted
It seems Codeis shared Steve Hood's thoughts. But I've seen (not only me) asking for it to be inc.
Aarava today mentioned it in his latest videos that he'd like to see it.

I'm simply saying if there're some people who'd rather not have mechanical failures they can switch it off.
Like Driver transfers (on/off).
37 minutes ago, Akkan74 said:I don't say i'm against DNF's. I only said there should be an option.
The failures you described have little to no outcome.
- Loss of gears will only occur if you drive a gearbox with very high wear on it. It never happened at the beginning of a season for example.
- DRS won't open is a random failure which can occur but it never result in a different style of driving to prevent more damage like i described above
- loss of power shall be there by overheating the engine. Haven't experienced it yet. What i have seen in some YT videos, many player drive most of the time in rich fuel mix without overheating the engine. So, it seems to be not really present at the time
I would say i described above a different handling of failures during racing as the game actually do.
All of the issues you mentioned above I've had.
I even saw a YT video of a player having suspension failure - I've NEVER seen that. Anyhow, let's see what they do.
-
24 minutes ago, Akkan74 said:Random failures for the player could be heaven or hell. If they ever implement failures, there should be an option to toggle it on or off.
For myself i'm not so much interested in failures which cause an DNF, more like small failures which gets you noticeable loss of speed, different handling etc. Maybe only partly.
- Think about your engineer calls you in the middle of the race that they found some heat problems. You shall switch to lean fuel mode, try to avoid slipstream/dirty air and you loose an decent amount of power. After random count of laps your engineer say it should be solved and you shall try to push.
- Or your box say they found a drop in tyre pressure on e.g. front left and after two laps they decide to bring you back in for another stop.
- Or you will get elctric problems during a race and you have to stay away from the curbs to survive.
Same should be possible for AI. This would bring in much more fun. If you have only 5 laps to go, you are 10 sec. behind and you notice some problems on the car in front. You would push like hell and if you are lucky you get him or his problems are gone after 3 laps.
Agreed it should be on or off option. But what you said is already in the game: loss of power, DRS won’t open, loss of gears etc... that’s codies way of giving us mild mechanical issues that don’t have a DNF effect.
Do you not want realism to make it more challenging? For instance: Being first and on the second to last lap a component fails and DNF’s you, annoying and disappointing but thats racing! No car is immune from mechanical issues.
Look at Lando Norris in Germany for instance - loss of power and then he lost it completely at had to retire. This is racing and part of the world. For it to be in the game would bring more excitement.
For fans like you who aren’t interested in that, well you could have it off.

I agree players can force their own failures, but what player would choose to run their components completely down to 100%? I admit, I've tried it and it works, but you have smoke blowing out the back of your car at around 98%. It would be so much better if a component or new upgrade that's totally new "randomly" fails and you have to retire. Clearly happens to the AI.
Let's hope the devs listen and bring it in for the next 2021 game.

I’m interested to know - does it not bother anyone else that only the AI get random mechanical failures? I’m just not sure why this has never been implemented into the game. Is it hard for devs to programme failures for players ? 🤷🏼♂️ @BarryBL
It would make the experience so more incredibly realistic. The only way is for us to manually retire or crash.
Codies, will we ever see this? It’s a great shame it doesn’t happen. We’d feel the same pain and anger as a real F1 driver if it’s included.

I noticed on Aarava videos the AI always crash, lose wheels and collide - that’s because he mods his game so the damage model is like that to make it more fun. It’s a tad unfair for others who, like me, what things like this in-game, but don’t get it as I play on PS4. I’d like simulation damage but if it only effects me and not the AI there’s no point whatsoever.
We’d love codies to comment and tell us why there’s a simulation mode if the AI don’t even use it, that would help all players decide what damage model to play with. @BarryBL

This mode has so much potential, I really hope they invest some more time in it.
Oh and I really wish you could watch sessions you are not part of (any more) as a spectator. Like Q2/Q3 when in a bottom team or the rest of a race after crashing out.
Yea - ageee with both. I’d like to be able to watch the rest of Q and R if we retire or don’t make out of Q1. Bothers me when it just skips. Not sure why the devs don’t make this possible.

Every time, every F1 game, never a fix. The traction for AI out of corners is so unreal. It’s even more frustrating when you over take them, and then, they ALWAYS catch you up and stay in DRS range because they’re OP Traction out of corners gives them a huge huge huge advantage. This needs to be fixed. It’s unreal. @BarryBL

I have been hoping this feature will be added every year with no joy.
I cant imagine it being a hard feature to add in, and those who don't like it could have the option to switch it off.
When in a season i just find it so unrealistic how i can go race after race after race season after season without my car breaking down and causing me to pull over and retire the car. The closest thing we get is the odd oil leak in practice when in the pits and/or DRS failure.
And then your rivals retiring 3 or 4 times a race.
Please can you add this feature for those of us who want the most realistic experience!
This, like you say, has been mentioned many times before, but it never gets included. Even the likes of Aarava. @BarryBL can you guys PLEASE PLEASE inc this? It would give the game a more realistic feel. Random failures for player In the race causing us to retire.

Even though I pull way off circuit, off the racing line, it still does it. And even if you retire in the pits, the mechanics still put the tyres on and then the AI car goes racing again.
Thanks again @BarryBL

Can you add your video in a different format when possible please, as I currently cannot view. Thanks. I suspect this is 'by design' as the AI takes over and find the next safe and suitable place in that sector of the track to retire.
Thanks Barry. I made the file into a .MP4 file - hope this helps?

1. A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here. When you manually retire from the race, your car drives off and starts racing again, rather turning off the engine. Even If I pull off to the side, the AI puts the car into reverse and continues to race.
2. Platform - PS4
continues to race.
3. What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen) - 1.06
4. Game-mode? All game modes
5. What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too. - Tested multiple occasions on each race mode.
6. What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue - I try and pull off a different parts of the track, away from the racing line, but it still
7. What peripherals are you are using (gamepad, wheel make & model etc) Logitec Wheel and Pedals
8. Any screenshots or video of the issue? If the video is long, please include a timestamp for when the issue appears. Video attached.

Hey all,
I've been playing F1 games for years now, and I'm a big fan of the Codemasters versions. 2 things have always bothered me giving it less realism:
1a. "Retire" from the pause menu.
2b. AI car disappears from the garage if they don't make it to Q2 or Q3
1a. Why is it, that when a player can choose to retire their car (from the pause menu) - does the car then not then pull over (like the AI cars do)?? Whenever I have done it, my car always regains full speed and continues racing. It's silly. For a lot of people this wouldn't be a big deal, but it's such a silly, little detail that it takes away from the realism - don't you think?
2b. This has always happened in the game - the AI car is no longer in their garage if they miss out on Q2. It's like they disappear - Why? And all the team members vanish. It's as if they've left for the day.
@BarryBL - I understand you guys fix bugs and performance patches first, but these small, little details can really make a difference to the game and bring realism.

Hmm interesting - yeah I’ve never seen AI make mistakes like that. I have my setting on 90. Might push it to 95 to see. Thanks man. 👍🏻

10 minutes ago, Rango said:I've seen many in aarava's my team youtube series, but not so many in my own. I am only 5 races in though
I watch his series and I think "Many" is over exaggerating. 1 crash at Vietnam (AI had the EXACT same crash as Leclerc at the exact same spot - video to show)
I'd just like to see way more, because it does happen in real life. We only see "mechanical failure
-
12 minutes ago, Ultra3142 said:Which sounds like the engine may have been overheating but as above it should be shown in the car graphic. Were you running rich fuel mix much? Or following another car fairly closely?
It's possible the bug here is with car faults not being indicated correctly.
I was -1.3l of fuel & was in Lean mix - I was defending position - so odd. Let’s see if it happens again in future races. Never happened in previous games before so assumed it was a bug. I have also seen people complain of loss of power and can’t exceed 125kph on a straight.
Well, If it’s a in-game feature, then, well, I’ll have to deal with it! Mechanical failure then. 😂
-
I hate to say it, but you see it in Grand Turismo... so why to Formula 1 Game?
You see In real life: Driver errors, driver crashes, collisions, terminal damage - Just like today - Magnussen, Kvyat...
It would be a DREAM game if Codemasters could bring all these driver mistakes into the game.
Imagine the epic excitement in My Team, or career mode if the lead driver makes a mistake and crashes?! Whao.
Please, think about (heavily) on including AI crashes/mistakes/collisions.
Thank you, Codemasters @BarryBL

No, that’s what was odd - No damage on any components - tyres lost about 3% extra wear. Its happened twice. I even lose power on the straights in 8th gear (speed decreases)

another small suggestion here: during my last qualifying session (Q2) I was currently in P10, all my tyres were gone and I was in the garage watching the last lap of my most dangerous opponent... but suddently the session is over, I guess as soon as the time reaches 00:00! While my opponent was still driving before the chequered flag, and I found out it got my P10 only to the screen of end session!
It would be nice if any session would end only when the last driver takes the chequered flag.
Thank you for reading.
Greetings,

Great idea. Codemasters have always had an issue with AI Sim times - it's silly ridiculous
-
I've always found this odd - if you manually retire (from the pause menu) rather than your car stopping - it speeds up and continues to race? Why does it not pull off to the side and turn off? (like the AI cars do?)
Even if you "retire" in the pits, your engineers change your tyres and then release you. It's odd.
2 suggestions:
1. It would be cool if your Jeff said - "ok engine off, we're retiring the car" - "Okay back to the pits, we're going to retire the car"
2. The car would pull off to the side and turn off the engine (rather than, speed up and drive off)

Correct - exact same thing happened to me. Rather than it blowing and you slowing down and pulling over to the side, it blows and you spin out. I only forced it to see how long it would take for it to happen. Would never do it again as it severely reduces power and you get done by the AI. Worth a try if you want to see for yourself though.
