    The Game Thread!

Downloading Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 demo on Steam. Hope it's improved on 14 so I can finally buy a football game after having none for years :disappointed:

    What was your last purchase

Got the same colour as me  . Think Lollipop is due to drop in February. I've just slapped the Google Now Launcher on my phone so it's more like the Nexus phones and I'm loving it.

    The Game Thread!

So I started up Steam and it froze, Waited 5 minutes but nope, didn't come back. Soft reset the PC. Turned Steam back on, it's deleted DOTA; the only game I'm playing at the moment. FML.

@hughesy sorry forgot to reply. Considering the cost of it new even now I highly doubt I would be able to afford it lol. Cheers for the offer though.

Awesome. Think I'm going to buy another stick of ram first, then graphics card. So by March I'll be in the market for the card.

SSD in, Windows 7 transferred to it, all the behind the scenes stuff done...my goodness what a difference it makes.

So the only games I picked up in the sale were The Walking Dead: Season 2 (onto the fourth episode, been good so far but maybe not as good as Season 1; want to play the entire series again though), South Park: The Stick of Truth (9/10ths through - absolutely brilliant and hilarious) and This War of Mine (just bought, gets great reviews). What has everyone else picked up over the holidays then?

    The PC Thread

I am happy to report I'm typing this post from my computer   It was either the case or a dodgy connection between the 24 pin and the pin slot. Since it was happening with both PSUs, it was most likely the case or the pin slot. Either way, it's back up and running and I've done a little bit of wire management. I'll have to crack open the case tomorrow most likely (as the SSD is coming) so I'll be extra careful, but I think I'll invest in a new motherboard sooner rather than later.

Right, so explain this if you can...at each step I turn the computer on to confirm it is working. Put the Motherboard back into place. Screw Motherboard back in. Reattach Sound cable. Reattach USB cable. Re-wire cable that attaches to motherboard (24 pin one or to that effect). Dead. Remove wire and reattach, ensuring it is secure. Dead. Remove entire Motherboard, all wires again except for essential. Works again! So my attempts at re-wiring seemed to kill it. Dodgy motherboard connection for the 24 pin wire? (I keep calling it that, its the thick essential wire).  Going to repeat the steps above but attempt re-wiring it at stage 2 instead of screwing the mobo back in.

Removed it from case, removed all wires except for what is absolutely necessary... AND IT TURNED ON. Something in the case touching the motherboard causing it to short? Looks like I'm in for an evening of slowly adding things to find the cause of the problem.

Unplugged during the "operation". Only have 1 stick of 4GB Ram so can't really test that, unfortunately. No button on mobo to reset it (was a fairly cheap motherboard) and yeah, made sure the cables are in the right places. When I was re-wiring I did it wire by wire and I've cross-referenced with the motherboard manual. And yeah, fan plugged into the CPU fan header (visibly moves 2mm when i turns on for 0.1 of a second). I'm going to keep playing around with it tonight. Since the motherboard was the cheapest part of the build I wouldn't be surprised (and it was what killed my last PC). I'm thinking when I was fiddling around I might of at some stage now grounded myself or something. So annoyed. EDIT: Haven't tried removing the CMOS battery, will do that just now. It's a ASUS P8H61-MX/USB3 S1155 Intel H61 DDR3 mATX

So I just bricked my computer. Not sure how, was installing new fans and thought I'd re-wire my system. Got it all wired back up and it only turns on for 0.1 of a second. Tried re-wiring again, stripping it back down to just CPU, RAM and Mobo...nothing. Went out and bought a new PSU...nothing. The mobo light stays on but that's it. Guessing I've fried the motherboard. Dunno if i should just bite the bullet and buy a new mobo at comp shop tomorrow or plan an upgrade. The CPU wont be dead as well...will it?

Corsair Air Series AF120-LED 120mm Quiet Edition High Airflow LED Fan - Red (Dual Pack) And yeah, the amount of stuff I've read about it being the best upgrade your PC can get has finally got me to click order. Went in the end for a different SSD than the one you recommended though, went for a Samsung 250GB 850 EVO:  Seems to get a lot of support from places such as anandtech and Toms Hardware, as well as the Amazon reviews for this and the previous series (840) being highly rated. Also, the software for copying Windows 7 over will make my life so much easier since I don't have a Windows disc to do a clean install.

Finally bought myself a SSD! Only been wanting one for around 2 years.  Also bought some new PC fans and dust filters. Woo!

Right PC monkeys (@revolvingprawn mostly). Metal Gear Soild: Ground Zeroes has come out on the PC and I instabought it. I can play it smooth 60fps on all high, but fuck that jazz it's time for an upgrade as I want full 120fps no scope ultra high graphics. So Nvidia seems to be the way to head now. I remember you guys chatting awhile back about the best bang for buck card out there - do you mind refreshing my memory or letting me know what is currently the best for around £200?

That's what I've heard about PES this year. If you want a realistic gameplay football experience go PES. If you want accurate kits and the a flashy experience, go FIFA.
