DiRT Rally 2.0 is coming and the entire forum turns to VR discussion. I don’t have it, I won’t miss it. I’m looking forward to the things to come!! B)

Yes, it's true that it was more in it's infancy back then, however it really hasn't progressed much since then. The technology is slowly getting better, but it's still very expensive for entry and no more games have made it a standard or consider it needed than it was 3 years ago. Specific titles made for VR ended up using it, all the adaptations ended up down a dark alley. I have to disagree with you on the entry cost. You can pick up an oculus DK2 for the price of a G27 for instance and it'll run just fine on a gtx 970, with still some margin to go lower specs. Whilst the imagequality may not be that great as of yet (fully agree on that front, mind you), the essence of VR still elevates the experience to a completely new level. Concerning what games have made it a standard: here I can only argue on driving games, but what I see there is that every serious sim has vr support. Codemasters originally entered those ranks when it implemented VR in Dirt Rally and it's very sad to now see them turn their backs to it. I’m sure they haven’t turned their backs to it. It’s just not a priority. Bit of a cherry-on-top when everything else is well underway. I have 2 platforms that’d play DR2.0, neither of them will run VR

I seem to remember dirt rally had no plan for vr, also had no plans for consoles. Turns out we got both in the end However back at that time VR was still a lot more in its infancy. By now we've arrived at the point where every serious sim has vr support, and the next generation of VR headsets is around the door. VR support has become much more of a requirement similar to wheel support. With regards to promises on Dirt 4, a lot more was promised regarding the physics, also stating that they'd continue to work on that. this never happened either. such false promises have blown away my trust for CM to provide a good title beyond what's in the initial release. trust that they had generated by their thorough support on Dirt Rally... Now that this initial release does not hold VR support, I have no hope that it'll be added later. I won't buy this title untill then. Ok. See you then!

They say you learn from your mistakes..... There has been enough community bitching about the short-comings of Dirt4, for the team to read and act upon for this title. Now, if I was a game designer with an active community like this one, I’d be trying very hard to take the good from DiRT Rally, blend it with the highlights of DiRT 4 (yes, there were a few) and build a new game to suit. Complaining about DiRT Rally 2.0 at the point of public release really is a bit of a waste of time and a bit late. The team have been listening us for 3-4 years now. They know what’s good and they know what we want. I trust them on that

More real DiRT players should be able to give a feedback about handling model, since dirt 4 was a huge letdown in that department, imo. This won’t be a Let-Down ;)
-
My o my, that’s a nice tight bumpy stage. Looks epic!
-
Yeah, hopefully Jon Armstrong has spent his time dialling the handling in. He should know his stuff, being both a rally driver and a sim champion. Wonder if the Solbergs or anyone else has had a hand in it this time round. I guess we’ll find out a bit more tomorrow??

Because this is the internet, it's what we doooooooo! Moral of the Story. You’ll never please 100% of the people 100% of the time!! :p

IRacing is most like RBR. It’s just as old, weird & over rated. Project cars is a good game, not that difficult and not that hardcore a sim Assetto Corsa as fairly difficult and fairly accurate, but drifting on dry tarmac as harder in real life that sliding a rally car on gravel. It is intuitive though
-
People mistook difficulty for realism, yes it was a pretty good sim especially for when it was released but the handling was pretty basic by today's standards and the car had the same amount of grip at low or high speeds and there was no detail. DR got a lot of stuff right and needed some things working on which I'm sure has been done and this could well be the best rally game to date. Unless its DiRT Showdown 2 in which case I shall quit the forum and never come back. So what did people do in case of Dirt Rally, mistook lack of difficulty for realism? Because after playing any sim dirt feels easy. Also I'm not sure about the code, but handling in Dirt Rally is more basic than RBR, RBR is not perfect, maybe not precise, but it is the only game that has the qualities of a sim. I am talking about the careful manipulation of the weight balance of the car, changes of grip, many ways of throwing the car around. Ok. I like RBR. It’s a classic. But anyone who claims it to be simulation, as clearly never driven a car fast, let alone driven a rally car fast. RBR was good for what it was but it was basic and did really basic things to pass off as a driving simulation. DiRT didn’t need to be difficult. Driving a rally car isn’t difficult. It’s ultra-intuitive. If it’s not, your in a bad car. It’s the being consistently fast, consistently accurate and gaining the very last few tenths of a second over the length of a 15 mile stage that’s difficult about rallying. RBR was difficult and people mistook that difficulty for realism, to the point that they think everything else to be ‘too easy’. It was difficult because it was vague. DiRT Rally has levels of driver detail and driver feedback that blew RBR into the history books where it now belongs. The only thing that was easy about DiRT Rally, was the width of stages. Sweden addressed that beautifully, and everyone cries that Sweden is ‘too hard’.... Lol

I mean, D4 was focus’d on being User Friendly! DiRT Rally never was I hope it’s DiRT Rally 2.0 & I hope it’s even more of a challenge to master
-
This^^^ Dirt 4 had the fear. That’s not what DiRT Rally was about. Go hard, or go home
-
Maybe it’s just a clever mash-up of the original DiRT Rally locations... Meaning we could be getting anywhere or anything??
-
Well, it’s safe to assume it’s not a WRC title then? Lol

real life 2020 FIA World Rally Championship
KevM replied to Fedemaisonnave's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Yeah, but VW usually do their testing wearing a Skoda badge. There may be a VW come-back, but it’s years away. Maybe Skoda WRC is a way back in to a much-changed sport without actually risking the VW WRC brand reputation ? -
Are we getting a new game??
-
Yeah, I hope that IF something new is in the pipeline, it’s as pure as Dirt Rally rather than following the ‘accessibility’ trend of DiRT 4. Loads of folk liked DiRT 4, but the Rally aspect was more ‘Game’ than ‘simulation’. DiRT Rally was praised for its intensity & accuracy. Even though some folk couldn’t get to grips with it initially, if you gave it time it eventually clicked. That’s what’s rewarding and that’s what keeps you coming back.

For me, the RWD’s were unforgivable. When legendary cars completely loose their character, I’d prefer it if they weren’t in the game than be in it all wrong
-
It was a disaster.

I’m Really looking forward to Monday now!!! Might do a bit of rallying this weekend to get back in the saddle
-
Scanning over the past few posts, I think that Solberg Rally or WRC are still likely. I’d love it to be DiRT Rally 2, but going by the last release, I think DiRT Rally will be left in retirement to preserve its legend status. The guys tried to better it with D4 and it just didn’t gel. Maybe a WRC career or Solberg storyline with DR physics would be quite new & good? I’d play it...
-
Be great if it’s right though. I haven’t had the Xbox on in a year :( Whats the latest theory on the WRC license? Is it coming Monday??
