DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I dunno.  To me, Sweden in DR are probably the best rounded stages in the game.  They suit the V2 handling to a T.  They are technical & get you into a real rhythm.  If the stage clicks for the driver, you can properly commit.  & the change in surface really mixed things up. i played D4 Sweden maybe twice in total....  The handling & the stages just didn’t gel like before

I kinda like having 2 enjoyable titles to alternate between.  Some of the stages in WRC7 really are on point.  If Codies get the WRC license, it rolls the best of both all into one again.   I doubt it’ll happen.  Having said that, it does look likely that the license is moving

I think it’s basic. i reckon the CM tile system allows for more complexity, but unfortunately gets repetitive. the above just looks like a long smooth randomised track, but with trees and rocks.

I’d love this, but I can’t get my head round D4 to even attempt it. Its encouraging to see cool things still happening though...

I get the bug-finding tasks etc What about opinion on a feel/look?   Was that purely the Rally drivers call the last couple of times or do you have a panel of testers for that aspect? Who drove Dirt Rally & dialled V2 physics in?  The character of a lot of cars clicked & were as you imagine them to actually be in reality  Id love to have input into those aspects.

Iv always said the concept of YourStage is a great one for Rally gaming.  Many complain that tiles are repetitive, but I genuinely think it would work so much better with the DiRT Rally handling.  D4 is point & squirt, predictable.  If you were working with balancing the car more, the generated stage would be a better driving test.  Having said that, they’ll never beat the good old designed stages for driving pleasure and full max attack commitment!!

Sure the original concept for Gran Turismo Sports, was an online race series.  ESports will be alongside the future of motorsport whether you like it or not. ...& in other news.  I switched DiRT Rally on for the first in months.  God I love that game.  Still pulls you in and puts a grin on yer face.   I was watching the Tutorials section for the first time ever & it kinda made me sad.  It’s describing in fine detail, the very ethos that D4 could have/should have been built upon, but wasn’t :(

I’d love to participate in future DiRT testing, but again, not just a drive away from HQ.  That & the fact that I sold my PC when Lucas was born & Mrs M needed her office back!!  :)

I would have zero interest in features and or dlc of any description, if the current handling is to remain

Lol - you don’t make money by selling a small number of games and then follow it up with a balls up i can no longer count the amount of users who have confirmed they’ll not buy the sequel to DiRT until it has proved itself.  By that stage, it will no longer be a full-price title & the company loses out.  A franchise has to be consistently deemed good value or the reputation goes down the tube and makes no more revenue

FH3 has loads of content and loads of activities.  Physics are simcade at best. Dirt Rally didn’t have much content to offer, but the content it had, was massively detailed.  It did have great physics though & that’s why it reached the status it did. FH3 would be a disaster too, if the physics were as obscure as what D4’s are.  FH3 has quite basic but fun handling, it’s not frustrating to drive.  That’s why it did well

DiRT 4 has tanked because of physics.  DiRT Rally still sells because of physics.  It’s that simple

Pure balls.  It’s the same model with added aero.  They worked a bit on a tyre model for rally cross

Although the handling authenticity is questioning, DiRT 4 is a simulator. It use more simulation value than DiRT Rally. It’s not simulating a car that I have ever driven.  So, what exactly is it a simulation of?   A simulation should replicate the behavior of the thing its thing it’s trying to emulate. Dirt Rally did that.  Cars had the same characteristics that their real life versions displayed. Everyone concludes that they were too light & fly-away.  That only happened because stage jumps were profiled to suit V1 cars.   The cars weren’t the issue, the jumps were.

Community competition will only work if the ‘feel’ is improved.  DiRT 4 is a great polished game let down by obscure physics traits as you’ve by now gathered.  I don’t think it’s a bad game.  I just don’t think the handling is immersive anymore.  I crave that to be fixed.  If it was, I would enjoy both the game & community competition.   Without a handling fix, I won’t have anough interest or curiosity to even load the game to see how the Competition/Clubs even work... Am I alone?  I don’t really think so. Make the magic happen guys.  It’s not too late....
