    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

There's one rally blog in Estonia and the author is usually quite reliable source, he's saying that Ogier and Lappi both have signed 2y contracts with Citroen. 3rd driver should be Breen. If Ogier goes, M-Sport will lose Red Bull and Wilson will need someone with deep pockets - Mads and Sordo both can bring their own sponsors, so Evans, Sunninen and Mads or Sordo for M-Sport? Toyota needs third - Meek or some one new? Jari Hutunen are rumored, but tbh I don't think that happens, he's still too green. Tideman deserves a shot at WRC, but another strong rumor is Skoda returning to WRC class, witch makes sense as VW is returning with WRC2 project and also there's that Skoda team new fancy factory. Hyundai will remain same and Paddon gets full season. Actually I would like something like this: Citroen: Ogier, Lappi, Breen. - Ogier developes great car and retires 2020, Lappi has great chance at future. M-Sport: Meek, Latvala, Sunnine - Meek and Latvala could bring home another team title and Sunning can develop another year and peak on the next after that. Toyota: Tänak, Sordo and some one from WRC2 (Kalle maybe?) - Toyota plans Katsuta to be WRC driver sooner than later. I bet we'll see him as 3rd driver in two years. That means Toyota needs one reliable driver for points (thats Sordo as in my dream Latvala joins with M-Sport) and one who can take get used to the car and team and take Sordos place when Katsuta enter's the team.

Who knows how many rock he hit to be fastest on the road before the suspension broke? I'm quite sure that's why Ogier used Sachs suspension on this rally again - more reliable than Rieger.

I don't think we'll see Meek for full season anymore, maybe if he finds budget and support by himself and Wilson will have him in M-Sport, but I doubt. Mostly because his age and all or nothing driving style won't win titel, but I'll admit M-Sport team Latvala/Meek/Evans would be cool and could bring another manufacturer title to the team.  oh, I forgot Toyota overheating engine - have they done enough for Turkey ?

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

Ott is on a roll now, pushing on PS for a second rally from the lead - he's feeling it :) If Toyota has fixed their fragile under body protection, then there will be only one rally that can be weak spot for them - Rally GB and it's muddy roads carried lot of weight on the massive aero and affecting weight balance. 2019 will be again decided as soon as Ogier makes his decision - moving  to Citroen or staying in M-Sport. Latvala has been speaking quite surely that there will be some changes in teams, imo in such manner that he definitely knows  - will it be himself moving or Lappi, that's the question. Ideal shuffle would be Ogier to Citroen, to develop a better car, Latvala to M-Sport, where he could drive again w/o pressure and maybe pressude his last chance for title and Suninen to be 3rd driver in Toyota for couple of years, until Japanese driver can take a place. Tbh Hyundai needs some one decent to third car, just in case Mikkelsen  still has trouble to coup with the car. Him, Evans and bad-luck-on-friday-Breen has been disappointing  for this season.

I was on training for Friday and Saturday, w/o any internet connection. Imagine my suprise at lunch that Tänak was out on SS2 and the carnage that fallowed in evening. Super glad for Evans and Sunninen, podium should be real confidence boost.

Sordo has been great this year- 2nd, 4th and 3rd, opposite to Evans tbh,  I hope he doesn't end up like Paddon, from winning Argentina to disappointment and bad luck. Mikkelsen is another one who has been under performing. Ford hasn't been dominating, Ogier has been performing quite well - out of his 3 wins, two of them were the events that he was favorite and Mexico he was just flawless. Let's see what happens now as we are back on Europa and on gravel. Portugal should be quite intense, the biggest gap from last year was +23s, 6 different rally leaders and 9 different stage winners. Also it's 2nd time in Portugal for Lappi, lets see how fast he really is.

Well deserved win for Ott! Power stages points are dumb, but it adds extra 'drama' for Live stages and for that, I can't see any alternative to it.

It was far from domination by Ogier - Toyotas were strugeling with starting positions and overheating engine, Neuville was cleaning the road whole weekend and Meek was Meek. And that 10s penalt was more then deserved. Cutting corners is gray erea, BUT if it's done deliberately you may get punished. Before PS stage Ogier asked from auxiliary judge what would happen if he cuts the chicane and he was told that marshal will be involved. He gambled for it and got the penalty - i don't get what the issue is, he lost PS points, not his 1st place. He already created one precedent last rally...

afaik, Chinas government wasn't really interested in  WRC project, only local region was packing it. Seems like there's a lot of interests in WRC events: Canada, Chile, Estonia,  Kenya all supported by their government and Japan pushed by Toyotas interest. Kenya is going big with their promo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPTaMSAsVvQ The new Rally Safari will be tamed down to smooth gravel roads. Croatia was candidate for this season, are they still going to campaign for next year(s)?

It's not as much of fresh snow that made the difference, but the local and historic cars that are using different tires, that makes new ruts and impossible to drive  for WRC cars. Take a look at the time losses between 1st pass and 2nd pass. No other rally has SUCH disadvantage. Road position should stay, but either get rid of historics and locals or let them use same tire for everyone.

That loophole is easy to close - starting late / early in the PS - no points from PS or add the penalty to PS time. I just hope it will be closed ASAP. I'm not blaming Ogier or MSport- FIA changed PS system and didn't bothered to check over the rules. After blowing trough out the event, it was small reward.  Breen and Mads were two suprises for me - I wouldn't bet them to be so high. Even more surprising was Evans lack of speed - makes you wonder, thous strong results from last year, how much he benefited from Dmack?

I think it looks like Tänak should've held back until there was room too pass. He would've gotten the time back for it. Now he took a chance and paid for it. There's full analyse on the incident done by EE fan forum :D but  I guess what happened was that Meek offered pass and Ott took it, unfortunately it was really narrow place. Meek pulled over but snowbank sucked his car too much in and he tried to 'compensate' a bit but colludes with Ott's car. Just bad luck, imo it didn't matter much - not many points lost and a better starting position in Mexico.

It had to be really bad thou. If you look at the splt 3 he lost +2.4s to Mikkelsen, splt4 already  +9.6s and in the stage end +18.6s. Overall classification - from SS3 2nd +2.4 down from Thierry, ss4 +19.4s from Thierry.  With last 6km atleast 15s lost thanks to deep snow.

there has been few different views  and it depends how much fresh snow there will be. With lot of snow, starting back in the line would be beneficial, around 7th or so. Then again, with highspeed stages, first runners could clean up snowbanks in the curves so you can't really use them anymore. I bet 5-6-7 are optimal starting positions.

But would you choose this incident to make an example and ban him from events? Because if you do, then how can we look past Ogier, who slides past a van on open road in uncontrolled environment in much higher speed. Anyways, OP has clearly some issues and that thread is just bananas, I like this one here, let's keep all the Finns and championship points safe here.

I read it as the dude got pissed for Tänak beating them on the leaderboard. Guess I misunderstood. I haven't watched the rally yet. TBH, his first post in motorsportforums was kind of a but-hurt. He suggested  that fine for reckless driving from FIA isn't just enough and FIA should  make Tänak an example and warning for future - dsq. Monte Carlo Rally and ban for several events. I mean, if FIA decides that it was too much and Tänak did it for just showoff, then yeah, he should be punished by a fine, not ruing his season. Thanks to OP's extreme views got Estonians mad. More over, OP's isn't just a random dude, i love his videos from rallies and he has quite popular YT channel.

I'm glad for Meek, smart rally with strong result, great start for the season. Hyundai in the other had :open_mouth: I bet they'll do a lot better in Sweden. I just hope the snowy conditions will last til the rally.

Lack of splits and stage times are down to new timing system afaik. Hopefully they can sort it out today, live map was not working also for some time. I feel bad for Hyundai, Ott speed thou! 'a lot to learn' as he said yesterday.

I love All Live, that eavesdropping when Ott gave feedback to his engineers and also this morning interviews in team areas   They still need to polish production a bit, but there's sooooo much potential in this, totally worth the money.

My prediction: 1. (i hope) Latvala takse the title and retires 2. (i hope) Hyundai takes title 3. Ogier retires after 2018 4. Citroen will skip 2019 to prepare 2020 car, this time Loeb leading the development.

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

Really? Most forums i'm following are saying that Hyundai had fastest car last year and if all the reliability issues are worked out, they will be team to beat this year. They only struggled in Finland, where they lack speed (like in last couple of years). I'm quite sure they have toughen up tarmac suspension and with Mikkelsen and Neuville it's hard not to but them favorite team for this year.
