BETA 2021 | Taking Applications Now

In previous years, we have had to write an application paragraph on why we would like to enter and how we can help. I've helped during the BETA phase for 2018, 2019 and 2020 so I'd hate to miss out by not applying properly. Does anybody know if they have removed the need to write this paragraph or have I missed it?

    Upgrades for Williams/Haas/Alfa

I don't think this is "scripted", it is linked to the facilities that Ferrari have in Career Mode. Having better facilities than McLaren, RP and Renault allows the Scuderia to upgrade their car quicker and therefore, close the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull. I often setup a season mode when I want to run a realistic season.

    Formula 2 (2020) is Amazing !!! But ...

I remember doing my 2019 F2 career season and Nobu was OP, Mick managed roughly 50 points, Zhou about 80, Aitken was 3rd, Ilott came home 3rd, the table was realistic to real life and with rookie performance but Nobu won the title by roughly 70 points and De Vries finished 9th/10th in standings and the two DAMS drivers (Latifi/Sette Camara) were in the bottom half so, some of the performances were wrong but not as bad as the testing seen above. Car performance isn't a factor so its simply an AI being rated too highly.

    F2 Improvement

Hey lads. Just my personal input on F2 and how I think it could be improved, both in championship mode and in career mode. Championship Mode - Allow a second set of softer tyres ti be used in qualifying. As I write this thread I am watching the F2 qualifying session in Bahrain and the drivers will use a second set of soft tyres for their second run. In the game we (the players) have been locked into using a single set of tyres in qualifying. Hopefully this can be updated because it’s a small change but makes a big difference to the qualifying in F2 sessions. - Have the AI run the alternate strategy. I have played the F1 games since F1 2009 and I believe in every game, the AI runs the fastest simulated strategy available to them, usually the 1st option in the player strategy selection. This means that the AI will always run a one stop strategy in the feature race, starting on the softer tyre and switching to the harder compound. If the developers can change this system and allow a mixed AI strategy it would greatly improve the experience in F2 racing. As a side note, I believe the developers are aware of the current issue that means AI will make a pit stop unnecessarily in the sprint races. Career Mode - The first change I think should be made is allow the player to run a second season in F2. I finished 6th in the standings after a season in F2 and was beaten by Illot, meaning I was the second placed driver in the FDA, I think as it’s our personal career mode, we should have the option to run a second F2 season, as we have the option to run no F2 season at all. - This is linked into my first point but I felt, at the end of my F2 season, it did not impact my career mode at all, my market value was up €500,000 to when I skipped F2 but it did not make an impact into which team I could sign for and it felt very unrewarding after committing to a full season of 24 Grands Prix. I think how you perform in F2 should directly affect which teams are interested in you, similar to how the draft works on NBA 2K and as the season progresses you can see which teams are interested in signing you. Hopefully someone will take the time to read and forward this to the developers and if you did, thank you. Cheers.

    AI Difficulty Calculator

This is just something I struggle with, (S means sector) in S1 Australia, S2 Australia and S1 Spain, I can compete with AI @102% but in S3, Spain and Australia, where the slower corners are, I lose almost one second. I believe the AI can just get a mega good drive out of slower, traction limited zones, that the player is just unable to match. I'd be interested to see if anyone else is losing time in the slower sectors, or if this is a personal issue I have.

Will ever ever see player mechanical failures?

I think what you've said @BarryBL is exactly what we are all saying, its cruel and we understand why it cannot be a mandatory game feature but the least this needs to be, is a toggle game option, we understand the casual players and that you need to appeal to them but for the hardcore player base, this would be an addition that is well overdue. I believe Aarav and Ben Daly have included it in their 'future ideas' videos for the past three or four years. With the power of next generation, there, in my eyes is no valid excuse not to make this an option to the player base, that can be turned on and off, similar to the safety car rules.

Will ever ever see player mechanical failures?

This would also be good in F2, I understand they don't want to make it mandatory due to the casual player but for hardcore fans, I think it should definitely be a toggle option, where we can opt in if we so wish. Hopefully it is something they are looking at because it is long overdue.

    Performance Patch coming soon?

Yeah, season 1 and even two are okay, but once there is ultimate tyre upgrades. Almost every race should be a one stop, maybe season towards the end of season 3 and start of 4, otherwise it just ruins the experience in those later seasons.

    Performance Patch coming soon?

Just a thought, does anybody agree that CM need to have a look at the AI strategies? Just watched Tiametmarduks Singapore race and he won after dropped to P22 and 25 seconds behind the leaders, in season 4 when most cars have nearly maxed chassis and tyre wear, because the AI did a two stop, from soft, to medium, to hard. I think it ruins the career mode experience in later season unless you race at 25% or 100%, 50% races give too many BS strategies. It’s really frustrating to race against.
  10. I was reading an article on realsport101 about the Renault career mode and I came across their idea of implementing team orders. "The best way to bring in a viable team orders system would be to add it to the long list of things you can radio into Jeff during a race. The main one will be requesting the #2 driver to move aside, but you could also request a different strategy option or tell your #2 to run long. These would bring a serious benefit to being a #1 driver somewhere and even make you seriously consider staying a #1 at McLaren over being a #2 at Ferrari, for example. There would also need to be penalties for being an insubordinate teammate. Maybe your pitstops would be a little slower, or the team would take an upgraded part away from you like we saw happen to Mark Webber at Red Bull. All of this would add to the realism of career mode, while you could remove the function for online races." (Click here to view article) It made me think about how much team orders would add when thinking about moving teams, would you be given a chance to win at Ferrari or Red Bull should you become their number two driver? I am sure the developers could add this as a on/off system in the game for those who wish to run such a system. I think Codemasters are making the right steps for F1 2020 and who knows, maybe they have implemented this feature for My Team but we are yet to get details on that. I hope this is something they are considering though. I've seen Paul Jeal mention before that they have many ideas such as a pre-season test but it just isn't time for that yet. There isn't much they can add to the base career mode except small improvements each year and I think team orders would be a subtle one that would add so much to the game. Please feel free to make your own comments and ways in which they could implement the feature.

Team Orders in F1 games. (realsport101)

That was quite an unlucky incident @Falstojudilofa. I appreciate your input and I think even a small addition would be a simple 'no race' command from / to the engineer to let him know that you do not want to overtake, this would stop the defensive driving from the teammate (Leclerc in this instance). I am not involved with computing coding and therefore will make no judgements on how difficult or easy a feature like this would be to implement but I am sure the developers have thought about it and for one reason or the other they have decided against it. I can only hope they look to introduce it in a future title.
