I'm going to have to look at this game again with all the mentions in this thread so far.

That's the one thanks for looking it up! I'd buy THAT game especially if you could customize your leather helmets and goggles! EDIT :I just realized there are a bunch of Monaco races from the 60's on YouTube and I just watched a fascinating 1960 color documentary on practice and race. Not HD this time but still vibrant color.. Those red Ferraris!....... Stirling Moss RIP had a good race keeping his car steady in the rain at half way. It seems more of an endurance race back then 100 laps if 1:30 per lap.. Near the end only 4 cars were left in the race and as you got points for top 6 several drivers try to make roadside repairs to get back into the race. I watched every minute. Couldn't turn it off! Be kinda cool if some of these movies were bundled with games and unlocked when you won at the track. I'm trying to think of the recent game that featured racing from yesteryear.. I swear it was the thirties! Will go searching now.. I got vintage racing fever again lol. Maybe one day we can do a historical pcars lobby? ๐Ÿ˜ Cmon Codies put some old tracks out... License some classic Ferraris!

    Codemasters a bit disconnected.

Hey buddy, just an idea but I got some magic beans for sale. PM me if you want some OK? ๐Ÿค“

Of course the bargain buckets in game stores are filled almost exclusively with sports games with years in their titles. If you make something with a shelf life of literally one year max, why bother making it a classic. No point whatsoever. Plus if you know you will be releasing games every year it makes good business sense to spread out features over 5 years instead of putting your best ideas all in one game.

Plus Historic LeMans too! Doesn't feel right taking new cars around classic circuits and vice versa. I'd love to see a historic Monaco too although I think they couldn't do it because licensing. I saw a wonderful video from the fifties I think with on car footage in glorious 35mm color, 4k basically on YouTube. There were no barriers and you could see groups of 3 or 4 people standing on the kerbs right by the cars! Wouldn't be safe with today's speeds of course. Your comment reminds me to set up a customer race round those tracks next time I play!

    Need Help

If you're front row or near it definitely hotlap as you want to maintain your position or improve it while traffic ahead is not so bad. Your position after the first lap is incredibly important. On the other hand if you're stuck further down in the pack it depends on the track. If there is a long starting straight hotlap might gain you a few important places before the first corner. If there is a tight turn not far ahead you're better off lowering your ERS to save it for a push once the first couple of laps are done as the concertina effect means you have to drive slow anyway to avoid crashing into the cars right ahead of you.

Me too! Those games were my intro into racing games. Surprised to see no GT4? My proudest GT moment ever was finally completing the infamous Mission 34 at Nordschleife to 100% the game. Even harder than GT3 final mission with the rear wheel drive Porsche and that incredibly hard cone circuit. Took me 2 weeks day and night to finally beat it.... By a couple of inches!!

A Racing Sim Saved My Life

Totally agree. Would love to see youngsters introduced to driving in bad weather with other cars in realistic road cars as practice they won't get in the real world until it's too late. A friend of mine's teen is super keen on driving and at 15 she's almost able to so. I promised her $5 if she completed the Azure street circuit in project cars 2 in a heavy storm in the dark. She failed it first time but did it the second. I reckon that 5 bucks was well spent as driving under heavy stress like that and not panicking is vital practice. She used a road car with all weather street tires so it was pretty realistic. Her mom and me don't feel so stressed when she drives our real cars round parking lots after that! OH it was TT and to claim her prize she had to complete a valid 'lap' which meant no driving on curbs or hitting obstacles!

I didn't know there was a TT2. Will check it out thanks! I'm a motorcyclist myself and always wanted to go to the Manx races when I was younger. Haven't purchased a bike game so far probably because I haven't found one that feels anything like actually riding a bike, ie leaning etc. If there was some way to tilt your head while turning like real life they would be cool! Do you use a controller or a wheel?! I love long street circuits like the 3 in pcars (I'm counting Nordschleife!) It's so fun pretending it's the seventies and taking a vintage Lotus round there. Thanks for the info you reminded me to put some more games on my wishlist. It's a good time to carry things up too!

I will take another look.. I might have already tried that unless it's very hard to find.. Nothing like trying to get a game working you've paid for but never played!! @ChasteWand sorry I was being mischievous when asking about the clean racing! As in its a fairly hot subject round here ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜ Agreed about pcars ai as it's all over the place between races.. That aggression slider being included after it was taken out before release of first game is very useful though.

No you're not allowed GTAV ! ๐Ÿ˜› Unless I guess you loved the racing in it so much that you ONLY played it for that reason so it became just a racer for you! I played both Pcars games too, just played a lot more since. Quite revealing that no-one has said GT Sport yet? I can't be negative in this thread so I can only say I quit playing it in vast preference to the others... ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm so jealous you got it to run! I purchased it last year in a bundle with several old f1 games and I could not get any of them working. I'm an IT guy too think it was something to do with that horrific GFW nightmare. My pc is locked down to a 2 year old win 10 build and I won't install modern windows patches on it now it's working so great. Rfactor has interested me a lot too but isn't that the game with dubious purchase options? I didn't mention games last the last 5 because there would be too many and I wanted games I could see here and still go and buy now.

I shall allow it lol because speed is of the essence. You're not just driving around slowly looking at scenery. Making good time is a major part of the game. You're racing against the clock not that far from rally stages! I have that game too I just wish it was larger scale as I love the real world I get in flight sims where you can fly around in a slow plane and almost do virtual tourism. Imagine a whole state like Colorado or on the other hand Scotland or Wales being available to explore! I'm just hoping not to get GTA type games which CONTAIN mini races but are not the main theme! Like Mafia for example with its infamous racing level... ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜Ž
  16. Yes it would look great but just imagine all the heavy handed YouTube copyright strikes everyone would be getting from F1! Heaven forbid its so realistic that people could actually believe it was the real thing and would be either take money from their coffers or be a detriment to the sport. Corporate policy rules game design choices like this one sadly.

@TheEmpireWasRight I have been sooooo close to buying Assetto (the original not the gt3 only game as I don't like gt3!) on several occasions. The only thing stopping me was the intense long tuning sessions I did in pc 2. I just KNOW I'd be doing the same all over again! I still might get it next time it's on sale. It's always a crazy price for what they give you! Thanks for the info I'd never heard of Mickeys Speedway which is why I wanted to start the thread. Does the N64 scale well on a 4k TV? Could be a fun buy as I like me some classic arcade games. @WestHam66 I actually have Dirt Rally 2 purchased (PS plus counts I guess) but haven't played it yet as am so busy with other games. Be interesting to see if I'd be able to have long term fun with it as I didn't with the first (oops that was a giveaway!) I've watched people stream Forza it does look like a blast. Just can't justify another console as well as my ps4 /pc combo. Would get it if it was allowed on PC.... Corporate policy yuk!

    Codemasters a bit disconnected.

Indeed. Even if they released the same game as last year totally fixed with basic extras like virtual mirror a lot of people want and new liveries /drivers and did NOT state the fixes in advertising they would be lambasted by the press. Despite the fact that a lot of us here would actually applaud a fixed game with no extra features at all AND pay for it (albeit grudgingly) Codies would still get lambasted for 'cheating fans out of their money'. Simply I believe all the games bugs and problems are solely the result of the ANNUAL RELEASE policy. Without that perpetual deadline to reach Codies could take a year off from a new release, fix the majority of issues and also release some paid dlc to keep the wages paid. Personally I've always loathed any software that has the year of release built into the title. It's a deliberate and cynical built in obsolescence designed to make customers stop playing the game at the end of the year and demand /expect a 'new' game every year. AAA games traditionally took several years of development to become classics so its totally understandable no annual game will be anything other than a cash grab. A gravy train if you like.

Do drivers come back in career mode?

Out of interest who have they been replaced by?
  20. sloppysmusic

    Manager mode

Codies would really have to revamp the ai considerably to stop it being incredibly dull and predictable. You'd have to believe the drivers had real world characteristics not just a speed boost for the greats.

    Codemasters sim or Arcade?

Exactly! Already own the biggest market just as it is. Why would they invest considerable money and time into making a sim as well? That would only happen if their sales started to taper off but with new people buying the game each year they can afford to lose a few to dissatisfaction. If you already have a good thing why risk changing it? They have the long term contract extended cos F1 management were pleased with the game. The only way you would get a sim is if F1 game back and said they wanted a more accurate and serious sim and invested a large sum to offset the extra development budget. F1 would only do that if they wanted to train lots more drivers or to run a pro esports league. Seeing as the exclusivity of the real life F1 series is part of the appeal diluting it down would make little sense. It would make more sense to work on a game to promote the other open wheel series that work as feeders to f1. That would make more people watch the 'lesser' events as well. Except casuals just want to be racing the fastest and biggest series, F1, making the whole idea appeal to a limited market. If it could be done cheap by using the assets of SMS who already made fairly accurate open wheel cars in project cars 2 then it wouldn't be such a risk. But seriously NONE of this is gonna happen. Nobody takes risks of any kind anymore in the software industry. Sorry!
  23. sloppysmusic

General Handling as official F1 series

The only way this would happen would be if Codies allowed complete overhaul mods. There ARE mods available but they can only change superficial assets like drivers, and other liveries and basic car performance data as far as I know.

    Codemasters sim or Arcade?

Quick answers : They won't They might They won't They won't They'd lose too many customers if it was a sim unless they also included an arcade version. Gran Turismo did it back in the day when they had career and arcade as totally different modes. Although career was really arcade tbh and arcade was arcade light ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜Ž
