DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I've been worrying about just what will break on release day. I've secured a free weekend on the 22nd 23rd and 24th. Nothing can get in my way. Except an act of God. I'm fanning my ps4 and massaging my tv on a regular basis atm.

You're right. I don't either. I also don't recognise the cockpit. But it seems highly unlikely that some dude at dream team has a world exclusive dr2 Monte screenshot

@christinamc, do you have info regarding offline multiplayer/hotseat. Or a date on when we might hear something regarding this? Thanks in advance.

It's unlikely given the focus on r5. We may however get cars from the early 2000s, but again this is wishful thinking at this stage.

Hahaha, it was booked ages ago, it just fell over a rubbish week - it was my wife's birthday (which is lucky, as she's the only person in the world I'd miss a rally experience for). I'm back now though - you guys have been busy  :D Great to have you back, and happy birthday to your wife! A perfect present for her, in my opinion would be public knowledge of the stage quantity in Dirt rally 2.0.  On stages: - There are 4 long routes at each location (two are reverses of the first two) - There are roughly 25-30km per location - Argentina’s on the shorter side and Poland’s on the longer side, but the shorter locations have a greater amount of technicality - Itineraries and stages are available in Event Preview screens, available in the Service Areas, and shown on Loading Screens. Five classes run in Career Rally events - and all of them can be seen on Running Order screens. Loops of stages is something we want to do in the future, so we can do it properly and have routes degrade differently across an entire weekend realistically And I know you've asked somewhere about Hardcore Damage mode too! So on that: - Hardcore penalties are double what they are in normal rallies. Hardcore Damage can be roughly explained as one big accident ending your rally, whereas 'normal' damage you can probably get away with a few incidents. So basically, instead of costing you 30 seconds and a place or two, a big incident will cause you terminal damage and probably points from the event. Good luck ;) Thank you very much. That level of openness is always great to have. I'm sad to see stage loops aren't ready yet, but I'm glad it's being worked on, and hardcore damage sounds perfect! May the rest of your days be filled with sunshine and happiness.

Yea hopefully we get info instead of pure gameplay. Need those km's confirmed. Quite how @christinamc thinks she can swan off on her jollies at this critical time I'll never know.

I've provisionally started setting up a discord. However I'm not familiar with the thing. DiRTy Gossip temp is the name. I'm not sure if it requires invites or not tbh. I'll continue messing about with it.

I'd rather have different stages for snow. I think using the same stages would be unnecessary. Until they create proper dynamic weather and seasons they should create bespoke snow rally, and bespoke gravel rally.

There's a few written previews popping up, however, they're written by people who know nothing of rallying. Am I the only one who gets frustrated at the use of 'tracks' instead of 'stages'. I know I'm a rallying snob, but some of these previews get my goat over the things they don't understand or convey correctly.  Its not their fault at all. I'm just a rally snob.

I'd love a brc license. That championship is dying again after a brief promise of resurgence. The calendar is increasingly weak year on year.

These things are usually a fairly grey area. Basically, can Codemasters be interpreted as trying to recreate the WRC 'brand' without paying for it. A works VW Polo WRC (which only really ran in WRC, built to a ruleset owned by WRC) in official livery (which was only used in WRC) on a 1-to-1 named recreation of Ouninpohja (a stage only used in WRC) could be argued as such, much more than an R5 (FIA category car) in a livery which ran in BRC running on a stage based on a famous Finnish rallying stage but not named after it. Hence games like The Crew can use WRC cars without much consequence, because they're never going to be interpreted as recreating the WRC, whereas DiRT Rally can be (arguably moreso than the licenced WRC games!).  As I say, that's my best guess - it's not really black or white, but many shades of grey that lawyers can interpret. Each small step makes the grey area you're in a slightly paler shade.  Yea, I get it. Well, to me that says create some BRC rallies!

WRC doesn't have a license for these roads. Codemasters have been advised by their own legal team there 'might' be legal trouble up ahead if they portray stages too close to the ones used in the WRC.  They toned down the whole Colin's Crest area in Sweden because of that. It would have been filled with virtual spectators but they toned it down so it wouldn't be as easy to point it out.  Everything is to prevent possible legal trouble that may lie ahead.  That makes more sense I guess,  however, a lot of me says bo##@%s to that. I suppose the Collins crest areas etc can be difficult as they've really been 'branded'. Hmm.

I still don't fully understand how the wrc can license a privately owned road. The stage names maybe, but the road?

You can use the same car throughout your career. The structure will be similar to that of DR1.

Could be, but does Latvia have any popular snow rally? And it´s easier to make Sweden from Dirt rally 1.  It does, but frankly: - Swedish assets exist already - Sweden is a popular, well known rally location associated with a winter rally - Sweden would be unique amongst rallies in the game There's no point in making a snow location anywhere else (OK, Norwegian scenery is basically the same) IMO. The only thing that can stand in the way is the wrc thing again. They already got some flack for recreating Vargåsen too well if I remember correctly. But if that was the case they could simply move it across the border to Norway as you said. They barely need to make new assets for that as they are practically in the same forest. And recreate some Rally Finnskog stages and they would be good to go. Probably won't happen but I'm just doing some wishful thinking as a Norwegian There's no doubt winter is coming, I imagine there are just more things for the environment team to get right. I imagine snow banks, as Well as the surface will need to deform in a believable way. Which I imagine is a whole lot harder than banging a few ruts in here and there.
