DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Hat has firmly been taken off to the Codies team. They've listened to our constant whining and appear to be dropping the holy grail. If we end up with 10 or more rallies of decent length that'll be a game that could last a very long time indeed

I'm deffo pre-ordering deluxe. I don't mind one bit putting more money into the pockets of developers who deliver the content I want. New rally locations throughout the year? Dope!

Yea this is what pricked my ears up. Surface deformation, if that has a real and tangible effect that just about confirms road sweeping. Plus a golf GTi!! Shame not to see GB in the line up but there's some great rallies in there. And if the video can be taken at its word then it appears to be hand crafted stages. I'm excited. Well done Codies!

All the handling stuff aside. I think we can agree that it's dirt rally handling we want over d4's? *Hides behind sofa* Then now all that's left is the one sleep we get until we find out just what Codies has in the pot over on that big old stove of theirs.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

They built on DR's V2 handling to create D4's handling. The exact same pivoting around a centre point is seen in DR as well (and Colin McRae Rally 1, 2, 3, 4, & 2005 for that matter). You need only corner once or twice in Germany to see this and feel it.DR's handling was never perfect, but to me the V1 physics were superior to current V2 ones that turned every car into a hovercraft that weighs about the same as a laundry basket, and handles as such.Sorry for being bitter. :p D4 felt different in every way. Didn't feel like they built on anything. And the weird pivoty disconnected handling I only felt in D4 and not in DR.

I completely agree there shouldn't be 2 handling models. It should be hardcore with the option of traction control and braking assists. D4's handling felt horrible. The car seemed to pivot wierdly around its centre and for me didn't feel part of the stage in the same way DR did. I know it's a conflicted area but I thought DR's handling was perfect. For me atleast. And I still play it today.

RBR at time of release on PlayStation 2 . To be as bold with its unforgiving handling as it was deserves special credit. Of course it wasn't perfect. But it was a game changer for me. And a game that wasn't overtaken until DR came out. And yea DR is better in every way. But RBR deserves a Hollywood handshake for its efforts.

I agree completely. I remember the first time I booted up RBR. I remember the first time I booted up DR. The learning curve was massive and that's half the enjoyment. Feeling on the edge of failure at all times. Building your pace slowly. Mastering it or at least becoming competent eventually.  I hope for that in this new game. But with more rallies, more stages and the same attention to graphical detail as DR had. Especially when it comes to things like water effects and trees and such. D4 definitely went Backwards in that regard

This^^^ Dirt 4 had the fear.  That’s not what DiRT Rally was about.  Go hard, or go home  Ah yea. Suppose it did. Back to fingers crossed then I guess.

I like the Not afraid tag. Hopefully that is an indicator that we are returning to purist rally action. The green tint is just an effect. Camera is taking a photo at night toward headlights. Doesn't look anything like New Zealand rally stages to me. Not one bit. I'm still thinking north America but that's neither here nor there.  For a group b motor to be on the first image we see , could that indicate a focus on historic rallying in the game?

It's a cloudy sky and a solid colour across the lot indicating a filter over the image to create a mood. As for the light over the trees could just be moon light or something. But staggered starts would be interesting. Only when you or another car has an issue that adds 2 minutes or more to their run time which would be rare.

So we have a Quattro on what is definitely a rally stage. Looks like red dirt and mountains so a possibility of north America? Given the trees in the background don't look African and the mountains don't scream Australia . Could be a hill climb type thing but the car doesn't look like it's in hill climb configuration. Thoughts?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Well, I think they should add much more, like tyre wear, realistic damage(power steering issues, overheating and so on) some random element to road surface, like new ruts and rocks every time.    Yea the realistic damage will be tough as it's it's usually down to licence with the manufacturers. Random elements like ruts and rocks are a worry. It shouldn't be random because then it probably won't make sense and appear gimmicky. If it's a tarmac rally and it's raining for instance then perhaps we can expect mud and some stones on the apex if we are running down the order or doing a second loop of stages. The problem you get when it becomes random is that it'll end up feeling like that wrc game where you had mud slides and stuff. What? Mud slides? No, I mean like realistically random, some little changes. And they should appear only when playing a new championship or starting a new quick race ect. Like in real life, every year roads of same WRC events are somehwat different. You can't expect that yhe same rock or puddle will be there every year :]  Yes but the problem with it being random is that it would need to not be random at all. As in it would need to be a rock that they've made, a rut that they've dug and eventually that would be a noticed repeated rock in a noticed repeated place and that may remove you from the immersion.

If they keep the physics (definitely) then yea I agree keep the existing rallies from DR but with additional stages and perhaps another 5 rallies on top shouldn't be too much of an ask. Put that in with the long begged for road sweeping mechanic and AI retirements on stage and I believe Codies have a timeless classic on their hands.

I agree. Delivered to Codies Brum or Leam when we all arrive there to pick up our free early copies of the game that we deserve for being thoroughly messed about

Well there's a mountain of evidence pointing to that fact. I reckon they were gonna bang out the video and release date but then you piped up about a free lunch and they bottled it.  Where @CodingRacer when you need them.

Not sure if they could make me return to Dirt 4 to be honest. It would have to be a massive overhaul.  I think I have about one tenth of the playtime I have in DR.  I agree. If I play rally stages it's in DR. D4 is bad

I doubt it Colin McRae remastered. Leave old games where old games lie. This is Dirt rally 2.0  Hopefully we get a trailer today and not just another six weeks of going over the 2.0 tweet!
