    DiRTy Gossip

From what I remember on the tyre system was that they did get it working how they wanted (and we expected) but that some issues which popped up late in production caused them to revert to an earlier model. I remember one of the devs saying it was very common for them to use Mediums or Hards during inter-office events because the tires would start to go fast. Basically how the tyre models work is that they are all individually simualted. The wear that occurs on the tires isn't something as simple as "the wear coefficient for Soft = X, Medium = Y, Hard = Z" - every single action you perform impacts each tyre individually. If you drift around you will where out the tires faster than driving smooth and clean. Dragging the right tires through the grass the entire time with the left on tarmac will cause the right to wear out more. Pulling the handbrake and doing a 2 minute burn out in a GT will shred the back tires and you will feel it the very first corner you take after that. What the exact issues were with the tyres that caused them to revert was never fully explained, but it was something they addressed saying they would like to eventually go back and work on it again if they get a chance. Sadly it is pretty low on the priority list compared to other things which parts of the community have been extremely vocal about.
  2. So while practicing for the upcoming qualifier, we have slowly been enlightened about how egregious a few of the cuts are. They are so bad that we need to have CM address these cuts. We need a clear answer whether or not these cuts will disqualify drivers in the Qualifier or if these cuts are now a requirement for everyone to use. There are 4 major cuts I want to initially address, some much much worse than others. The first, is the tree cut - you split the trees after the double 1R over bridge to keep the car in 3rd gear and carrying more exit speed. This one is dirty, but it is honestly the least of my concerns. CUT #1 The next is the worst of the bunch - the "digging up potatoes in the field" cut. This one blatantly ignores all track limits, dodges two corners, and gives you insane exit speed on what should be a square left. This cut has at least 3 seconds in it, and if this one isn't a DQ cut then the entire integrity of this WC is lost. Video as well - https://clips.twitch.tv/SplendidKawaiiMonkeyBIRB CUT #2 The next two are more well known cuts, the standard haybale cuts. Easily a half second in each of them, maybe even more if you can get your lines right. They happen right at the very end of the stage, and again blatantly are ignoring track limits. CUT #3 CUT #4 And the overhead view with each corner marked with entry/exit points for the cuts. So we need an official statement on this. As a community these are serious issues that we need clear guidance on so that EVERYONE here is on equal footing come the 10th. The last thing we want to see are fast drivers losing out to people who are willing to take the dirtiest of cuts in Qualifiers, only to be forced to watch these cheaters drive slower than most of us in the actual quarter/semi/finals when they are under the microscope. If you are not going to do anything about these cuts in Qualifiers, then say it so the rest of us know that cuts are required. I hate to do it and be that guy, but I'm tagging CM on this one. We need answers. @PJTierney @Skiddyboy13 @CM_Ads

Track Limits in DiRT World Series

After a slow first pass, this location is looking MUCH better. Nothing super ugly, a few field cuts to dodge rocks/chicanes but nothing more than about 1 second at most each, if that. Need to verify there is nothing insane like entire split cuts in a few places, but much better stage selection so far 👍

    Difficulty settings for Career mode

That only happens for the first few tiers; after Pro you normally won't still be ahead by minutes per stage unless you have the consistency and speed of an alien. To up the difficulty faster just spam through events, and once you get to the last 2-3 events in a championship do some quick math; if 4th place in the champ cannot pass you in points even if they ace every remaining event then you've already won the promo - just enter every event and immediately retire on stage 1. You'll get the promo after the championship finishes. Just make sure not to retire from the Championship screen on the main My Team menu or you'll forfeit the entire Championship. Isn't perfect but it lets you skip about one-third to half of all the events needed to get to Masters. Hell I was able to retire the final 3 events of my Elite championship and still promo'd with a 1st place finish.

Track Limits in DiRT World Series

I'll try to get them organized sometime this week and make another post for everyone to see.
  6. @koog2003 Because you are making ridiculous claims and using hyperbole to try and sell your point. You are going through and disagreeing with literally anyone who doesn't support your view and are ignoring valid, sensible rebuttals to your point. No one is disagreeing the support on Steam is sub-par, but acting like it is even close to being "false advertising" or would hold up in any court as an "illegal" act is laughable at best. People cite sources refuting your claims and you immediately dismiss them because it doesn't fit your narrative. Learn to debate in good faith and you'll get a good faith discusssion in return.

    DiRT Rally 2.0 World Series

Was already confirmed that all cuts are allowed if they do not require code modification. We had a big discussion about it leading up to the qualifiers and that was the final ruling.

@DiRTKiNG808 As a general guess then, I'd say probably around 80-85%? At least that should be a good starting point and you can see how much you're winning/losing by.

    DiRT 2.0 disappointing loyaltys

pretty sure she left the company when she was offered a 1st party position working for Microsoft. Can't really blame her either, it's a massive career move that you'd be crazy to pass up.

    Tarmac Physics and FFB

@bogani and @Buckwilder both hit it on the head, and honestly it's part of the reason I cannot stand using full cockpit cam. It becomes painfully obvious that you are the centerpoint and the car is just rotating around that center axis of the car. It is less noticeable on gravel since you are mentally expecting some slippier kind of traction with the car, but on tarmac it is really painful. I've said it before, but sadly I think this will come down to an EGO overhaul - CM appears to only be able to get one of the two surface types really nailed down with the other suffering for it - in DR2 that means we get awesome gravel physics at the cost of tarmac.

    DiRT RALLY 2.0 Difficulty Slider

Really comes down to what you are currently capable of. As a rough starting point, let's use your Daily placements to gauge a decent difficulty for you. Do you normally finish top, middle, or bottom tier of the daily challenges? Where in each tier do you normally land, the upper or lower end? How many restarts do you normally use in a My Team or Custom stage when trying to set a "strong" time (not your best, but something you're proud/confident was a good run for you).

This may be true for stock cars that aren't modified for racing disciplines, but I would argue the opposite is the case for high end rally cars. Watch any of the on-boards, they are able to slap through a sequential shifter with minimal effort and can do so very fast. They are designed specifically to do so, but many also are running true dog-box so you've got room to preload each shift (which you can't get in sim gear for < $900) But the actual shifting is short throw, unless we are using historics with original parts. I fully get what you mean when you say you prefer the authenticity of h-box and full wheel rotation, but a big portion of the sim-gear consumers are also looking for the optimal gear that helps them drive faster. So wheels that can deliver good FFB at lower DoR are very useful along with accessories that make your life easier while driving so you can focus on holding that line flatout in 6th gear.

BMW M2 supposed to be in garage??

I read that as meaning after week 1. Times aren't "validated" until the close of the event when every position is finalized. Once the final positions and times are validated and become accepted then the rewards (including quarter finals invites) are sent out.

Car should be in your garage tomorrow at some point once the first round of the WC qualifiers has completed

I want to say @F2CMaDMaXX runs a 450° rotation? Might be a nice step in between the two for you to try out

I'd argue that is not the case, specifically in rally. You need those mid-corner shifts for weight transfers and a sequential setup is designed to make that even easier. If the paddles were fixed it'd be 100x easier to pull off because they're always in the same spot so no "getting lost" with them. It is doable with wheels where the paddles aren't fixed, plenty of people run it at 540° and do just fine, but for max performance you either need them fixed or on a low enough rotation as to not have to move your hands off the wheel.

Have you tried to downshift with paddles on a 720° DoR setup? Way too annoying trying to track the paddles after half a rotation

Consider playing with it at 345°-360° too. It'll give you a bit more fine-tuning room and you'll still be able to hit the paddles at full lock 👍

The big issue with this is a lot of the fastest drivers don't play career mode. For lack of a better way to phrase it... because it's a waste of their time? There is nothing really for them to gain by playing that vs doing MP sessions with other top drivers all of which are faster than Masters or 100% AI. I still like the idea of tiers/promotions for future WC's, but I really wouldn't want to tie anything to My Team if possible.

Lol, now we know why dash cam is coming with 1.9 - just in time for @PJTierney's new rig Looks awesome though, enjoy it. Also, well done on the monitor positioning, another connoisseur of the best camera position 😉

Joona said during his trip to France (?) for the RX event he got to drive in thanks to winning D4, his experience in Dirt helped tremendously. http://blog.codemasters.com/dirt/09/the-dirt-roadbook-september-6-2019/ But back on topic, I'm still totally in support of an MMR like system for tiered racing classes for future championships

    analog handbrake

@bn880 don't get their hopes up too quick, we know it's coming and should be in 1.9 but @PJTierney hasn't wanted to absolutely confirm it yet since his patchnotes are still "pending" until final QA sign off. But @deadredeyes BN is right - it has been confirmed to be an enhancement, it just comes down to whether or not it will have signoff for 1.9 or get delayed for 1.10

Now we are talking. A lot of us have discussed this whole AM/PRO split to some degree, the problem is always how do we define the splits. Right now the best idea I have heard is letting this championship play out, and then taking everyone from the quarter/semi finals and making them the "pros" of their platform. Then you have the top 10 or so from each AM championship fighting to "steal" the bottom 10 positions in the PRO championship through some kind of relegation event. I'm all about that, it would be awesome to get a much more robust season around these championships. Long term points, climbing ranks, and at the end a big event to try and move up to the next "tier" or class.
