There should be an option for 'linearity' which is exactly that - it changes the sensitivity of the throttle and can shift it to the end so you have more "play" room in the beginning.

Sure it's a marketing/publicity stunt, but you know what? Everyone still comes out a winner. I know there is an old saying about this but I can't remember what it was. In the end though it says doing good, regardless of the reason, is still doing good.

@WestHam66 what it really comes down to is just being aware of how the cars generate power/grip and actively thinking about it mid-corner. There is no one-size-fits-all here. TL;DR - shifting weight forwards/backwards left/right heavily impacts the power/grip you can generate.
For FWD cars you have to think about how all of the power is generated at the front, how the body rolls dramatically at the rear when off throttle, and how the car will oversteer hard initially when you throw it into a slide but then massively understeer once the power starts getting down.
Fow RWD you have to think about how the car's body reacts when you're on/off throttle. When you're putting power down, the car will "lean" back onto the rear wheels making the front much less efficient - so you need to Left Foot Brake mildly while mid-corner if you are trying to turn in further so the car balances back out to a neutral position giving the front tires more grip.
With any drivetrain you have to be very aware of how your momentum will carry you through a corner. Just because you threw the car 90° sideways with the throttle floored in an R5 Fiesta, don't expect ALL of your velocity to be generated in that new direction. The wheels might be generating power in that direction, but the car still has to do something with all of that other momentum - either lose it by slowing down, or redirect it.
The momentum and weight isn't just some solid object either in game. Your entire car doesn't have the same weight/momentum during a corner as the rest of the car at any given time. Bumps, cambers, surface terrain, all can change how one portion of the car is acting and you need to be feeling for that.
When you go to do a Scandinavian flick, really focus on trying to feel the back end swing around. Really try and feel what you can adjust for inputs to change how quickly your flick can be done; try a long and smooth flick and then do a really tight and quick one. Try to pay attention to how much reaction you get from all of your inputs (steering/brake/throttle) during the entire movement. You should feel moments where the steering gets heavier, then lighter, then heavier again as the whole weight shifts from one side to the other and you "float" a bit right at the midpoint. Pay attention to how much the throttle can do to actually push you through a slide during a big open exit vs when you're heavy on the brakes where the corner tightens. -
If you're on gamepad I know PJ made a controller guide to get the settings right for xbox pads at least. might be worth checking out -
Other than that though, your biggest challenge with 2.0 will be how much more weight the cars all feel like they have. Momentum is a serious thing in 2.0 so your braking line will be different from DR1 and you need to focus on the weight shifting. Other than that, just focus on clean runs, your old speed will come back to you quickly if you stay clean.

the little ones don't because they are procedurally generated. you do see ripples in them from the rain, but that's it.
keep in mind FH4 has like 10x the budget and player base of this game 😉
Yeah the deeper puddles make a serious difference on your line and you can hydroplane super quick. The Wales puddles are the worst, but you can do the same in New England if you're doing the route with the puddle at the end of the stage. Going the same stage with it in the first split doesn't seem to cause much issue, but hitting it reverse I've definitely noticed when I didn't hit it straight on and could feel it pulling me off the line

Basically one giant, minute long continuous drift through and around the DirtFish warehouse with the new 2019 WRX Fiesta. Remember when you asked for some gymkhana clips @PJTierney? I know it's not the Mustang but does this count

Isn't that the case for anything though? Once it is "old" and people are moving on to newer products it is only natural to discount it.
If you were to go into Walmart right now and see a copy of Horizon 4 for the full $60 launch MSRP would you not laugh at the pricing? But Microsoft has it on sale now for ~$20 - are you mad at Microsoft for "screwing" over early adopters? I mean, you said it yourself that you paid $40 more than I could pay right now for the game. Nothing "safe" about that purchase.

43 minutes ago, richie said:No, you're not the only one. I wouldn't say buying the game and playing it from day one is a privilege. There's a release date and you preorder or just buy the game at release day, start playing and that's it, but if you choose to wait 6 months or even more time to get it on sale, then I think it's fair to say that you have a clear disadvantage.
If you didn't know about DR2.0 and just stumbled across the discounted super deluxe edition, then you were just lucky. ^^ I can't find the discounted Super Deluxe Edition at the moment, so it might not be on sale anymore, but if it really was just €34,99, then that was an absolute steal!
Yeah privilege might not be the best word for it, but you're essentially paying premium to ensure you get to play it day 1. And I'm totally ok with that for certain games, DiRT being one of them. Not $35 on Steam right now, but I almost bought a copy of the original Deluxe ($24) to give away on stream last night cuz it is so damn cheap haha.

Am I the only one who isn't upset that buying content day 1 means you pay more than someone who waits 6 months? You pay extra for the privilege of playing before people who want to be frugal. Yeah, I think it's kind of lame to not discount the latest season at least a bit for the Deluxe owners, but then I remember season 4 isn't even fully released yet.
You're asking for a discount on content that is still being released. What other company has ever been like "oh here is some new DLC for you all to buy, want us to go 50% off 2 weeks after releasing it???"
The reason the BIG bundle is discounted is to help bring in more people to the playerbase. Discounting the DLC by itself isn't going to do that, those people already are part of the playerbase. But if you're trying to bring in new fresh drivers during the holidays you discount the base content or the deluxe bundles. It isn't rocket science.

Honestly, at this point, I'd be very disappointed in all of the pro teams if they weren't running each stages dozens if not hundreds of times before each weekend. We have the technology to get paths into a game pretty accurately and very quickly. Adding the fluff like trees and stuff takes time, but getting a general path that follows a rough outline of elevation into something like RBR wouldn't be to terribly hard. It's not perfect, but it'll be a HUGE advantage for drivers to get a quick idea of how the stage will be once they arrive and some of the key corner combos to watch for.
I mean, how much would it cost to employ a lone dev/modder who is experienced with RBR to quick-mod new stages into the game for them to practice on. Compared to the rest of a pro team's budget, I would think it'd be pennies... Keep the dev on through the offseason to continue cleaning up/developing the practice stages and you could craft a massive backlog of 90% of the possible stages very quickly.

Obscure reason: The lawyers confirm that the contracts signed with all of the teams/manufacturers/parties involved also included where and how the likenesses will be used. Deviating from that agreement invalidates the rights of CM to use the likeness.
Don't take this as official since I'm just a random guy who sits on these forums/reddit/discord too much, but I think it's the obvious reason why...

Hey man, if they could give me the Southern Ohio Forest Rally and the actual New England Forest Rally I'd be happy - or Sno*Drift up in Michigan. USA may not have as many famous locations as the WRC, but we still have a lot of cool locations that could be used with MASSIVE variety. Not sure how much flex room it could open with cars too but just between a few locations on the east coast alone we could have plenty of diverse new locations.
Now getting the team out here to do rec on it would be the expensive part...

What do you mean by "authorize"? Like will they ban you? I don't think so, unless you are using it to break the current online events.
I've seen a few MP lobbies already up with RX cars in Wales so it's definitely not being immediately auto-banned by the system. Whether it flags the profile for review later or something else is out of my domain though so you'll have to wait for @PJTierney to chime in on that one or one of the other mods around around.
Now if you're asking if they will "officially sanction" and/or support it, that is a very quick and easy NO.

I notice this whenever I goof around at the end of the night in Dirt Fish so I do believe it happens during the stage - you are just adapting to it constantly so you don't really notice the difference while driving; the pause between stages and the fresh start is what tunes you into it being different since it isn't jumping off the line as expected.
Easy way to test though is go into DirtFish and drive around for 10 minutes drifting like you're Ken Block. See if you can still hold those same lines you took when you loaded into the location or if you're fighting harder to maintain them.

30 minutes ago, dgeesi0 said:not really true. some cars can be upto ten seconds faster. 2 is probably the low side. also it means that you can drive badly in the fastest car in the group and still be faster than absolutely nailing the slower cars in the group. we shown this recently with the DS21 community fun event. mini and alfa were upto 10 secs quicker on the stage than the DS21. there are cars in literally every class like this. yet some are just really fun to drive but cant compete.
Yeah, while I love to be "that guy" online in daily events or MP sessions who picks the bad car and still holds top times, I go into every one of those knowing if any of the other fast drivers show up in the better car I'll be lucky to keep it within 5 seconds for a Sprint. That DS21 event was fun, you all pushed the limits of that car to the extreme but the second one of you switched the to other cars all of you were chopping HUGE chunks of time off the WRs.
With the more modern cars the gap tends to get smaller thankfully, but I'd say basically anything Group A or older has clear winners in every class. Some are better than others with at least 1 clear winner but 2-3 close contenders that fight only a couple of seconds behind. But there is still a clear winner when we are comparing absolute top times.

Oh yeah, your solution would be 100x cooler in that it is infinite then, and who doesn't want infinite rally stages?!? I've just dabbled myself in some generational designs and quickly learned what a mountain that is to develop.
My idea is more of a "meet in the middle" strategy. Don't force the engine to generate the entire location, as getting it right would be a huge undertaking. But getting a pattern that generates routes through pre-constructed stages is much more straight forward and cuts out a lot of the "unknowns" in designing. It seems like the feasible in the near future option to me.
Consider my idea a stepping stone towards the final ultimate goal.

I don't know what happened, but I get the "Voice Control Disabled" prompt whenever I boot up the game now. What's really weird - it worked flawlessly 3 days ago before I reinstalled Windows 10.
Reinstalled W10, decided to upgrade to W10 Pro this time from an EDU license. Install went fine, updated all my usual drivers for Nvidia and audio drivers for the Mobo. Zero issues outside of F1, voice works great in Steam Chat, Discord, Skype, basically everything else.
- So far I've tried the "reinstall kinect voice recognition" and all those installer files located in the /installers folder. That worked before when I first installed F1 like 2 weeks ago.
- I've gone into the sound settings and disabled every other unused audio device on my PC; I have 3 left now - Speakers, Arctis 7 (game), Arctis 7 (chat). A7 (game) is default audio device, A7 (chat) is default communication device
- Under recording I have disabled every other device on my system; only device is Arctis 7 (chat) which is set to default.
- I've changed properties on each audio device to disable "exclusive control" by any app thinking maybe discord was hijacking the audio. No luck there.
- I've made sure "voice recording" is enabled in windows, and I've also made sure to allow apps to use voice recognition
- I've even turned on cloud based voice recognition thinking maybe this was needed somehow
I'm out of ideas on this one. Any help would be HUGE as not being able to get race updates easily on my G27 is a pain during a 57 lap Bahrain race...
Game Version: Latest I can pull from Steam. 1.81?

4 hours ago, UP100 said:I'd actually like this if it would be done in a more dynamic way (such as generating the layout and then trying to generate the world around it). Although it would be quite difficult and could lead to many errors in the generation.
I'll stand by what I said back in DR1 - we need dynamic routes through a location more than a dynamically generated location. Look at any of the stage screens while the stage is loading in - almost all of them show how the stage runs through all of these roads and junctions. The ultimate solution is to map out the entire location and all those side roads/junctions. Craft a system that can select 4/8 of those splits and connects them into the "stage". You'll have to record multiple pacenotes for each junction since some might just be "Flat Right 150 passed Junction" and on the next time it is used we get "Caution 2 Left tightens 1 over Junction".
THAT would be the way to create infinite replayability. You would turn 16 Splits (2 Longs) into dozens and dozens of potential stages if the roads are laid out right so even half of them have junctions that start/end with 2 options. Not saying it would be easy to develop and implement, but it would be amazing to play through. Imagine one time through Spain it's all tarmac, but the next time at the end of the 2nd split, Phil yells "Caution, Acute Left onto gravel - 100 into vineyards". The entire concept of Spain would flip on its head.

Just now, caerphoto said:Simpler explanation would be some weird bug causing it to crack for the wrong reasons, imo.
Most likely, I'm just surprised I haven't seen anything really on it. I initially assumed it was just Finland being Finland and breaking everything as you fly flatout, but then it started happening in other locations - locations I know too well, and drive too cleanly with certain classes, to ever get a cracked windshield without also DNF'ing. New England, Australia, Wales; all places I never had this issue before, now cracking the windshield on stock setups within 20 seconds of starting the stage by going over a little bump. Maybe bottoming out is triggering it somehow?
-
So have we figured out why the windshields are cracking so much more in the last few weeks? Like just driving in Australia you can crack the windshield by the second turn without hitting anything. Something that never happened before without you hitting something. What's the cause? I feel like damage model would be tied to the physics model just like tire wear is. So if we are getting damage changes, what is causing it? Minor physics tweaks?
Does Body Damage Matter
in DiRT Rally 2.0
Posted
Worst thing I can think of (aside from cracked windshields) is if the body damage might cause some of the panels to drag on the ground. That itself I don't think will hurt you too much, but it will definitely make it easier for those panels to "catch" those hard-as-cement white/orange pylons in Australia which can cause a world of hurt.
Overall though it shouldn't do much to actually slow you down by itself. If you can manage a clean run with the damage I doubt you'd see more than a few seconds slower if that on a stage.
