    Post-patch 3.5 topics to address

It's been mentioned elsewhere, but I'd like to reiterate. The practice of AI cars running up the inside of you at full speed at the apex of a corner is intolerable. Not only is it not conforming to the rules of F1, is does not apply to the laws of momentum and inertia, and as Einstein or Newton would have confirmed, these laws are universal. And to add to the absurdity, these cars proceed with their trajectories unaltered while we, the recipients of the contact, are often forced off the track and unlike the competition who just resume with no loss of speed, we often take a very long time if we have for example been spun around backwards to get back on the track, by which time, the quit button is ones best bet.

SR Rating - How does it work?

How does it work? It doesn't. And what's more, the game works the same way when you have a rating of five as it does when you have 0.5. And to add to the mystery, how do you race in an unsafe manner and lose rating points when you are racing a ghost car in a qualifying one on one? And did you know that you can get a full green safety rating by immediately destroying your car at the start of a race. I discovered this when grid starts were at their worst. I decided not to compete and was shocked to find that you can become a "safe driver" by crashing with a DNF in the space of around four or five races.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

After the recent minor update, Grid Start behaviour was changed slightly for the better. Although optimistic at first, I now find that my win ratio in this mode is only marginally better than before. I estimate I can win maybe 1 in 10 races. Starting from P6 inevitably sees me surrounded by bots who all make contact with me resulting in multiple engine slowing penalties, thus undoing any good that came from being faster off the line. I then find myself again at the back of the pack without the necessary speed to catch the other cars.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

Having just started my morning full of caffeine, I thought, "I'm pumped and ready to race".....well, that feeling didn't last long. Apart from DNF grid starts, I'd like to add Sprint races at Street circuits are also a nightmare. It's hard to even finish Singapore without being pushed into a concrete wall. Have Codemasters ever watched a F1 race? Cars are not three abreast the whole race. Almost as soon as they get past the first corner they settle into single file and an overtaking manoeuvre, should it occur, does not allow the car being overtaken to turn into you causing you to crash. And this is the official F1 game. Why is it not representative of how a race works?

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

I'd love to be able to change set-ups for Spa compared to Monaco. Actually, I'd like to never see Monaco again. Neither in real F1 or the game. It is too narrow and tight for today's cars. Great in the 1960's when F1 cars driven by the likes of Jack Brabham reached speeds of over 100mp/h! But not suited to 320km/h. And whoever starts on pole, wins, unless they break down or in the case of the game get hit from behind and fly 35,000 feet into the sky and then drop into the harbour.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

I was wondering about this while playing much of yesterday and it occurred to me that outside of events, you can't change your set up before a race because you don't have the chance to pause, pre-race. So whatever setup you have, you're stuck with it as a random race and random race mode is handed to you.

    Post-patch 3.5 topics to address

I'd like to address Chris Groves and state that if Grid Starts are not solved satisfactorily in the version 4 update, I am done with this game. I have already invested more cash in your product than any other game and I am happy to continue to collect cars, purchase credits and anything else I believe will add to my enjoyment of the game. But the last four hours of gameplay is nothing short of depressing. Wins are mostly hit and miss, not based on skill at all. There are of course many other aspects of the game that present their own functional challenges, but I'm realistic enough not to expect everything to be perfect by the next update. However Grid Starts have been reported universally since version 2. I trust this is a priority and I can continue playing the game. And Chris, another days play with mixed results, but one thing would give me great pleasure. Whether in sprint or grid, the idea of cleanly passing an AI car would be so gratifying. It can be done, but it comes with such risks because they don't like you overtaking them. If I have the speed to pass I should be unencumbered in my attempt to pass. At present the only chance to gain a place against a bot is to outbrake them entering a corner, but this inevitably results in a penalty which makes you think it's not worth trying to gain track position. We are supposed to be racing, not holding position in order to avoid penalties. This is ridiculous. The last two hours I have had nothing but grid starts at three tracks. The same three tracks repeated over and over. And all tracks that favour bots with the result that in a short space of time I lost around 300 trophies because these races are unwinnable. I am not getting any pleasure from this game. It is becoming something I hate. I hate how the game offers nothing to the player. I hate the fact that within a matter of seconds, I know I am going to lose because the game doesn't provide me with enough speed or the ability to catch up with and pass opponents. Like I said, if these things aren't fixed, a lot of current players will drop this game and that represents a lot of revenue....gone.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

This sums up the grid start experience for me. Get a perfect start, hold P6 or P7 for a while, allow bots to overtake because God help you if you try to block them, slide back to 11th, then fall victim to the last placed driver, your actual opponent, and lose.

    Time Zones

I'm in Australia. I play sporadically through the day where I work from home. Meanwhile most of Europe and America sleep and I've noticed I'm often matched up against "Player" Now I think we all know who player is. He's the stand-in bot for when match-making fails and he never makes a mistake. Never misjudges a corner, never collides with another bot, he's the teachers pet of cars. With any luck I'll be matched up with somebody in Mongolia. They're awake now.

I must have had 20 races against Player number 22 today. He's unbeatable.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

You must be playing a different game to me. I brake when I should but it's a bottleneck of cars stopped at the chicane. I can't go around them or I'm bogged in the grass. If your bots behave differently to mine then good luck to you.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

Nothing works at Monza whether grid or sprint. It's a pileup at the first chicane. It can take ten seconds to get out of it with bots stationary all around you. Yet somehow your opponent avoids the carnage and speeds off. There's nothing to do but quit and accept the loss, without even having the chance to take part in the race.

    Penalties have to go!

    Penalties have to go!

If only single mode had a competition mode where you could race for rewards. I wouldn't even mind if it had an entry fee. A reasonable entry fee of course, but I understand that the game needs to turn a profit and for the cost of a helmet I would gladly pay to race in single mode if I was rewarded with resource points or trophies. Or with jars of pickled herring.

And just to flog a dead horse... Grid Starts are still plain awful. I just did a personal best lap time at Silverstone but came 12th. My opponent finished where he started 6th on the grid. But he beat me by five seconds and he was only 6th!! So what lap times are the winning cars doing?? This is nothing like fixed.

    Sector 3 Time Warp

The list of problems never seems to end.
  18. Dr Zaius

    Sector 3 Time Warp

Very obvious at Spa where in qualifying I am far ahead of opponent and at maximum speed on the long last straight and somehow I am beaten in the third sector by over 3 seconds. If he had that much speed through the rest of the race I should have lost.

    Problems after last update 1.7.3

There is no consistency across all tracks in all modes. It feels like different programmers worked on different tracks. In a qualifying at Hockenheim I always get a great start in sprint, while in Brazil I am always locked inside (literally inside) 11 other cars whose transparency is almost zero and as they pull away give the impression of being a 44 wheel 20 metre long car. All tracks have their idiosyncrasies in different modes. When a particular race track and race mode appears, I know I don't stand a chance, so I immediately crash into the wall for a DNF. You may wonder why I would do this. It has to do with the safety rating. Did you know I can get a 5 star safety rating by colliding with the wall a few times? That's how absurd it is. A safe driver according to this game is one who self destructs as quickly as possible. And equally absurd. I can lose that rating in a qualifying race against a ghost car where I don't even have an opponent with whom I may collide. Oh, and can somebody review the scenery rendering at Spielberg? It's truly sub standard compared to the rest. Approaching the second last corner it always appears to me that trees are sprouting up out of the ground. I'd just like to add that 12th place remains the most common result for me in Grid Start.

I think one of the most disheartening things in all game modes is seeing your opponent (and bots to a lesser extent) speed away from you in less than a second at what I estimate to be around 400km/h. If our cars accelerate at a restricted and realistic rate as we proceed through gear changes under no circumstances should any other car have the ability to achieve instant speeds. It is a deflating feeling for me personally and I'm sure it contributes to other members frustration when they want to actually engage in "genuine racing against other drivers in a realistic environment" Also as I just noted, again the penalties do not make the game fairer. A Sprint race just resulted in a loss because of bots suddenly dropping speed exiting a corner, while I was accelerating. My opponent races away and I not only am I trying to catch him but prevent the previous penalty by braking for a bot which of course makes me totally uncompetitive. My point: Overall speeds and handling of other cars need to be made consistent for your particular category. Not identical, nor slower, but somewhere in the vicinity of what I would call "making a race of it" where each race generates excitement, rather than "just hit the quit button and accept the loss"

Agreed. We still aren't competitive. We aren't fast enough. We are confronted in every race by AI blockading every part of the track. It's still the least enjoyable part of many disappointing parts.

I have a Mercedes and I can swap my custom car and there is almost no difference. With some settings like stability and steering assists off, the Mercedes performs worse than the custom. It's really slippery around the fast bends at Suzuka so I used the custom car for the Japan Event and it was faster and more glued to the track. But having said that the Mercedes does feel like it has more straight line speed, but it's almost indiscernible. More a feeling than something that shows up in lap times.

    Win ratio in Grid Starts

I used to hold out hope that crazy bots would take out my opponent, but now if I'm tenth and he's third, I quit out of the game. AI don't seem to destroy everything anymore. They're like well behaved wasps. Stay clear and they won't sting you.
  24. Peter, I'd delete and download again. That will reset lap times and hopefully remove the bug.

I'm trying an all aero setup. So far, not helping in Grid Starts as noted in a new topic I started.
