I think the next DR2.0 update should include Ian Bell's grinning face looming over your windscreen before you start

Please remove the wheel punching animation

Yeah it's a bit deflating to finish a run you're happy with only to see a virtual wheel punching tantrum At least go the whole hog and have the driver set the car on fire
  4. Dear Codemasters, We have seen the future, and the future is Project CARS 3 Everyone, and I repeat, ever9one involved in the masterpiece of Western civilisation called Project CARS 3 should stand proud and erect For what a great leap forward this work of art represents Truly, it should be exhibited 24/7 in the Uffizi. Congrats on the purchase of SMS, Codemasters, you have shown the world what love of art brings to the soul over base commerce. IAN BELL FOR PM

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

That's a smart and simple hack. And also near impossible to find now, alas. Anyhow, I'm happy with my Battle Beaver. Rounded, rubberised sticks with super extra stiffness - a joy to rally with!

    Project cars 3.

It's a tragedy for the series Handling with a controller was already perfectly fine in PCARS 2 And on the consoles at least, PCARS 2 was the best circuit racer you could get. Realistic, amazingly immersive, fantastic visual options, huge amount of content. And a smooth 60fps, unlike ACC. What could have been, if they had further refined the graphics and added more content... Now I just do not see any recovery for the series back to a serious, grand sim. It's really sad.

Project Cars 3 for Global Civilisation

Anyway, it does go to show how great PCARS 2 is. I've gone back to it on the Xbox, and it's an amazing amount of game for a console. Tinker with the FoV and head tilt, look to apex etc settings, and its incredibly immersive. Not to mention realistic and playable with a controller. 60 fps - it's the best circuit racing sim on console, bar none. Going to forget 3 exists, quick smart.

Project Cars 3 for Global Civilisation

Oh. My. God. Becky, look at that PCARS 3 I've just played it for the first and last time. This game is truly hideous, and you can see exactly what @UnderclassGDfan was referring to. Contrast levels are set to berserk. The game makes Ridge Racer look like a 17th century Dutch portrait taken indoors during a dark day. My eyes will keep bleeding into the night from what I've seen The game is janky, frame rates are all over the place, and there is grotesque POP-IN (Xbox ONE X!!) Handling is atrocious, cars are simultaneously jerky and unresponsive The whole thing has an aura of cheapness, like the old Carry-On movies or an episode of Benny Hill This is such a step backwards from PCARS 2 it isn't funny.

Project Cars 3 for Global Civilisation

Superb, I love the passion And 'Fortnification' is a great way of putting it It's true, garish colours are the order of the day. When the subtlety, if not the sometimes outright drabness of reality is *actually more immersive*

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Yep, this game is a masterpiece of gamepad control input design. I can strongly recommend these guys for a custom gamepad. They're the only ones I've found who provide extra-stiff stick movement as an option. This is superb for driving games like DR2.0 as you get more precise control. And their gear is great quality. https://battlebeavercustoms.com/

    Project cars 3.

Wait a sec, just slow down here! 🙂 How do we know this was Codemaster's doing? PCARS 3 was I believe well into production before Codies purchased SMS. Perhaps they bought the studio because they liked the expertise and tech in that studio? And you will not find a better rally sim than DR2.0, period. You would have to go back to RBR + mods, and even then prepare to be disappointed as the resolution of surface is nowhere the level of 2.0 WRC8 has mediocre physics, and the damn thing runs at only 30fps even on the Xbox One X. Same deal with WRC9. Codies are heroes to rally sim enthusiasts for what they have done, rescued the genre from oblivion. In circuit racing, they know they can't be Kunos or Rfactor's devs, nor can they compete with Forza's budget and marketing. so they have to forge their own path forward.

So! Who's got it/played it/hates it/loves it? I'm tempted, as I think I need super realism in rally, but simcade in circuit racing suits me better. And can anyone who has played a console version verify that there is FoV adjustment like in PCars2?

Three Things RBR Still Does Better than DR2.0

We'll have to agree to disagree, @JZStudios But take it from the OP, the intent of the thread is to highlight ways in which DR3.0 could be a visual improvement for all of us. Not to bicker about RBR per se. For me, it remains: - a shift towards a photographic overall look, like Horizon 4, - greater movement effects for a 'headcam' view, like PCars2, - replays that have the visceral hand-held look of RBR's replays.
  20. - Photographic look - Replays - Head/Car movement during in-car view

Three Things RBR Still Does Better than DR2.0

These screenshots superbly illustrate the issue. Driveclub is a much older game than DR2.0, and Forza Horizon 4 is about the same age. Every time I play the game I marvel at the physics and handling, but sometimes cringe at the graphics style (I find New England the poorest, and avoid that rally). My only theory is that Codies perhaps wanted to soften the pitch of a rally game with serious handling, by having an un-serious graphic style. But the end result, 'rallying in Skyrim' is just a compromise that I feel could have gone in a better direction. It's even a step backwards in realism from Dirt Rally 1 in some ways (though granted it is superior tech and is pushing a lot more polygons and lighting than before) Codies - we come to you for authentic rallying. We can look to Art of Rally for cartoony graphics any day.

Three Things RBR Still Does Better than DR2.0

Eh, RBR was only chosen because it's a rally game. Why be disallowed to have any other game as comparison? That's ridiculous. Driveclub is a perfectly fine example, and @RGgiac is spot-on. 'Cartoony' is correct, in comparison to some other driving games. It's about photographic textures and lighting colours that are realistic rather than exaggerated and, well, cartoony.

Three Things RBR Still Does Better than DR2.0

Can I be clear and just state that I think DR2.0 is an amazing looking game... I mean, I've enthused all over this forum about the graphics, even started threads about it But the moment you suggest that maybe, just maybe, a change of aesthetic direction might be worth considering, it's triggerama and 'I literally don't see how that is possible!' etc etc

Three Things RBR Still Does Better than DR2.0

Here is an example to illustrate. This looks 'nice', but it also looks drawn. It's so obvious it shouldn't need explaining. Look at the grass, trees, rocks, pretty much everything except the clouds. It ain't realistic, period. Edit Please note, as nuance seems difficult for some on this forum: This is not say DR2.0 is a poor looking game. Or that RBR looks better overall. DR2.0 is the graphically superior game (I mean, duh). But RBR had a photographic overall look, that you cannot say is the dominant aesthetic in DR2.0
