yeah thanks, I figured it out. finally remembered there was a nefs editor and extracted the files with that, but not before losing like 5 hours of progress in modes I don't like - landrush and rallycross are super boring for the first few championships. stupid.

    DiRTy Gossip

just been playing Dirt 4 a bit...trying to teach myself how to use a controller. Dirt 4 is a weird game... it's like they tried to market it as kind of a sequel to DR, and a lot of the inner workings do that with the my team stuff, sponsorships, etc, but then the gameplay is kind of halfway between Dirt Rally and Dirt 3 for Gamer mode (which I play), with a crappy 'sim mode' tacked on. the procedural generation is really good in theory, but as has been said elsewhere, there just isn't enough variety in the number of different turns per location. I feel like not making more tiles available for free DLC or something is a missed opportunity. but wow, did they ever get a lot of things right! there are so many friggin times of day and weather conditions for every location (Sweden switches the rain for snow of course): Civil Dawn; Dawn; Early Morning; Morning; Midday; Early Afternoon; Late Afternoon; Sunset; Twilight; Night - 10 Dry; Partly Cloudy; Cloudy; Overcast; Mist; Fog Patches; Fog; Light Rain Showers; Light Rain; Rain Showers; Rain; Heavy Rain Showers; Heavy Rain - 13

yes, I know, but the one I downloaded just comes with the nefs file and that's it. replacing the original nefs for that car works, at least. EDIT: but it doesn't save your progress... which I discovered only after playing 5 hours 😰

bit of a random question, given that most people are playing DR2.0 : will using the nefs editing method for installing liveries make your online stuff go bad in Dirt 4? what about career mode? I'm playing it again and found this Evo X livery I want, but don't know if I should use it. all the other liveries I've downloaded use the folder method.

can so relate. the number of times i've been spun out by them is ridiculous!

not hugely surprising. the Group A Celica was in last year's Gravel, which is a decent budget-ish offroad game

    AI Times Are Completely Off

yes, AI times in Poland are better than everywhere else. I've done that historic championship too, but at a difficulty of 31. I came 2nd in the championship, but didn't do anywhere nearly as badly as you in Poland... like 7th or something. and 31 difficulty is about right for me with RGT class because I play with the keyboard. correct me if I'm wrong. but... that'll be because the one that's last in the running order is always the one at the top of the leaderboard, no? so if you're second overall, it makes sense that the only one beating you (ie the fastest AI car/driver) is also the only one starting after you, right?

maybe getting too much hate from users with high expectations for DR2? a few hours ago she also liked my post in this thread with the screenshot from steamdb speculating about DLC locations <insert modest face>

why are people complaining about Sweden being too bright? you do know snow is white, right? white reflects light a lot. ever been on a frozen lake on a sunny day? it's brighter than the desert in the middle of summer. the only (natural) place I've been that is even close to being as bright is the Salar de Uyuni, which is a salt flat (the biggest and highest in the world)... almost as perfectly white as (clean) snow. I find it amusing that there isn't even an option in the game to drive Sweden with clear skies in the daytime (such a shame... I desperately want more times of day and weather options). that should be quite a bit brighter than anything available currently. EDIT: @J89 I see you downvoting my post for no reason. did you ever get video of the improvement in grip that was bothering you and only you? or did CM fix it for you personally?

how fast are you driving into them, exactly? because they are actually pretty forgiving as long as you don't go straight into them. the most difficult thing about them that I've found is that they can suck the front of the car in and spin you if you are cutting a corner a little close (or just suck like me haha).

Ya don't worry it does, options are daytime-cloudy daytime-heavy snow sunset-partly cloudy sunset-heavy snow dusk-cloudy night-cloudy night-heavy snow I've only done the daily/weekly events so far (both are Group B RWD o.O) it's super good, but it would be nice to have clear skies for once hah imo heavy snow looks better than the light snow in MC, but it's still not great. also, note that there aren't any other options. really hope they bring some more (light snow, medium snow, fog, light fog) like in D4 also more times of day. 4 just doesn't cut it.

seems like some people missed some stuff posted earlier in this thread. for one, the 2001 Impreza is confirmed to be coming, and there's a screenshot of it in game. second, someone pointed this out (picture below; and sorry I forget who it was): https://steamdb.info/app/690790/depots/ according to that schedule (and subject to change I'm sure) there will be a Season 3. if you look closely, 1.7 and 1.10 DLC have two locations each. that looks like two RX tracks being released at a time. so assuming it's the same schedule as Season 1 with a location release every month, Season 2 would be 2 rally locations (June, July) and then the 2 RX ones (August). and Season 3 would be the same for Sept-Oct-Nov. then there is one more location, 1.11 assuming 1.11 is a rally location, it looks like we'd get the 3 other DR1 locations and two new ones. I realise this is all speculation, but this is a gossip thread, so **** it. I'm excited already

Huge rhythmic stutter on high end PC

I'll wait till I get around to taking some video, but I think this might be happening to me too, on occasion. it only happens in a race, so if I quit to the menu and go back to the stage it's usually gone but it's relatively distracting specs: i7 8th gen 2.20GHz 16GB ram 1050ti 4GB crucially, this is a laptop. I play DR 2.0 on a keyboard. so the issue cannot be caused by my peripherals because I don't have any, unless you count a wireless mouse... so yeah, I don't know if this is the same exact problem you guys are having, but it sure looks similar. EDIT: it's only been happening since the 1.21 or 1.3 patch

someone posted this a few pages ago... assuming season 2 is 1.5-1.7 DLC, it looks like we'll get 2 Rally locations (1.5 & 1.6) for the first two DLC "stages" and then 2 RX tracks in the last stage. Season 3 would be the same. link: https://steamdb.info/app/690790/depots/ Season 2 was in my DLC list from the moment I paid for the pre-order....

    WRC 9

clearly you didn't read my post very carefully. I'm pointing out that the WRC clearly has a very different way of doing business from others. look at their live stream deal on their own site. what other sport has that? as for Americanizing their games, yes sure they did with Dirt 2-3, but that a) was quite a long time ago and b) resulted in some great games and c) Dirt 3 had WRC cars, remember? so even when the games were at their most "Americanized", CM still wanted those licenses. I think it is important to highlight the fact that the full title of Dirt 2 was Colin McRae Dirt 2. they only removed it with 3,
  21. Kevin Hansen looks like he can challenge his brother. he's not quite as quick, but he's closer than almost everyone else in the championship. I think they will both be top-3 at the end of the season, unless they get as unlucky as Timmy was last year....

    WRC 9

they had WRC cars in Dirt 3 and DR, but then they vanished. do you genuinely think they are not getting the license for the highest-level and biggest motorsport championship that a huge percentage of their user base - and the devs themselves - are interested in..... by choice? the license just wasn't worth the effort or something? meanwhile, that motorsport championship is backing their direct competitor in the video game market? how naïve are you? (I mean this rhetorically, I don't think you are actually naïve 😉) I don't see Milestone as the senior partner in this. I see it as the WRC picking a small dev they can sell the license to cheaply and then take most of the game's profits from. this might be better financially for the WRC in the medium term, which is a good thing, but they have yet to put out a legitimately good game and the good sales that come with it. I'm ready to be wrong with WRC 8, but so far it's felt like the WRC games have been by reading a textbook. they have the building blocks, but none of the ingenuity and fun. the Dirt games are, and that's why we're having this conversation on this site lol

    WRC 9

sure, but having one of them blocking the other from licencing the premier racing championship for that kind of motorsport is mean (I would use a stronger word but it will get censored) business practice EA did the same by acquiring exclusive licenses for several sports leagues, killing its competitors like the 2K games. I'm not saying the WRC devs are as bad as EA, it's the WRC itself that is the problem here. this is their styles of business.

    WRC 9

jump from WRC 6 to 8? yeah, it only took 3 years for them to make a game that looks like it might be good. wow, that's a very low bar you're setting. o.O honestly, I'm a fan of not buying the WRC games, because their franchise exists because WRC wants total control over their product. they don't let Codemasters use their licensed cars! look at how you have to pay them directly to watch their competitions! in comparison, World RX puts everything on youtube for free - they've even uploaded all the past events from 2014-2015 too now! just kill the WRC games so the WRC can do a deal with Codemasters to include their content in the Dirt games. they're just on another level. even if you're comparing just the arcade-oriented ones like Dirt 2-4, they are way more fun to drive than WRC 7. thanks for mentioning my favourite arcade racing game of all time 😄

100x this for weather. D4 was super underrated for this. the big patches of fog that went from being able to see a couple of turns to barely seeing 20m in front was GREAT (no sarcasm lol) the your stage thing would probably only work for the locations from D4. I'd be fine with that though. more variety is gooood ok, this is because you probably finished the open RX championship before they patched the weather/times of day in career and community/ai events to make it less dark and wet. I think this was patch 1.2. the game sets the next championship when you finish the previous one, so as soon as you finished the open, the game used its parameters to create a nice rain-soaked championship. the next one should have a higher ratio of dry events. I just did the open RX championship today for the first time, and all 3 were in the rain (not fun at all, agreed). I checked the clubman one after completing it, and sure enough, 3 out of 4 events were completely dry. same goes for the rally career. they have actually tweaked this, people just aren't noticing because they're doing the monthly events which have been up since the patch or they're going back to career after a long time like you.
