blog post is up http://blog.codemasters.com/dirt/05/revealing-dirt-5-first-next-gen-codemasters-game-launching-from-october-2020/ WAIT WHAT FOUR PLAYER SPLIT SCREEN IN CAREER MODE. WHAT!!! ahem. they announce 3 locations in the blog: Brazil, New York City and Italy but the screenshots in the blog have filenames that indicate 2 more: Norway (right) and China (left). many of the shots in the trailer are definitely from those two.

screen grab from the trailer. you're able to drive some (all?) locations in different seasons. awesome. otherwise, this reminds me too much of Showdown. edit: just read the blog. looks more like D2/D3 with one or two modes reminiscent of Showdown I'm super down though. D2 and D3 were/are excellent, though D2 is overrated imo. it gets really repetitive with not enough locations or vehicles. I don't see that being a problem here though.

ya sure spend less time on things that are actually important and more time on breaking the game into tiny pieces so you can have a slightly smaller download size. also, you're probably forgetting that they're using a game engine from 2007 or so, so it might not even be possible in the first place. in addition, you think too much in terms of "I pay therefore I deserve everything." it pretends that the enormous amount of time and effort of working on something through one's full-time job is worth nothing. that's kinda weird. are you still getting the GRX Taneco drivers in the wrong cars? I was assuming that's what they fixed.

lol the only info we have is the one picture and the stuff in the announcement ending the new content for DR2 edit: it's been 25 mins. I call bs
  7. for me, the cars turn in very fast with no hint of any progressive loss of traction. I'd have to get back in-game to give more detail. it's very hard to put a finger on. yeah, that's another of my assumptions, but even when you're on smooth tarmac in Germany it feels better. it's also possible it's simply because there are far fewer curvy turns and many, many 90 degree and hairpin ones where your (read: my) attention is not on easing the car through smoothly also, I must admit that I usually do MC with winter tires, which feel better, and it could be that I'm extrapolating my experience of those to the softs.

yeah, my assumption is that it's for those guys. blue would be awesome but might create more 22B confusion

what I'm excited about for this game is what new locations we'd get and whether they could be added to the next DR game Malaysia, Kenya, Japan, Croatia, China, Utah & Morocco would all be v cool, to take examples from past Dirt games. less focus on Europe would be nice, (unless the licence for the European Rally Championship is possible) depends whether you count the Gronholm/Heikkinen/Nitiss/Timurzyanov ones wink wink nudge nudge I would say we are like 85% sure. also, the person quoted below likely has more information than the rest of us 😉

well, first off, I really like arcade racing games. DR2 is the only sim-type game I've really played a lot of. I came to the Dirt series through Dirt 2 and 3 (I got them in 2013) and I grew up playing 1990s NFS and early 2000s Midnight Club, not Gran Turismo. in the past year my most played game after DR2 is the CTR remake. second, I was just saying that since the series has been split in two it is not necessary to have two handling models in the Dirt games to appeal to the more hardcore players, since that will likely take resources away from other things. this seems to have been the case in Dirt 4, a game I really like but most hardcore players hate. but yeah, if it's easy to implement the exact DR2 handling model into D5 (or whatever it's called) and improve the tarmac handling a little, then sure, go for it.

agree with everything but the end. if it's not a "dirt rally" game, I would not expect it to have the same handling. they have split the series into an arcadey section and sim section, also, to make something that crosses that divide is not a great idea. they tried that in dirt 4 and it didn't go so well with the fans, even though it was very well received by critics and it does many things better than every other game in the series.

yes I do. and no, it doesn't transfer. as far as I know, the saved data is saved in the platform's (ie steam/ps) cloud, not the CM one.

ok, but they talked about doing that when they started making the original Dirt Rally back in 2013. and that's what they've done since then, alternating between DR and D# games. this is just a visual representation of something that's been going for 7+ years edit: just noticed on steamdb that the filenames for Scotland are different from every other rally location. in every other rally location those numbers are 01 and 02. looked in my game files (I don't have the update, it's too big) and it's the same thing there, pre-update. I'm not saying more stages for scotland are coming! it's just interesting.

damn, 19GB is too big for me. I've only got 75GB left for the month, and it's only the 4th 😪 hopefully with the lockdown easing here I'll be able to get back to the city where I can download to my heart's content. I own the full game on PS and Steam now, but I can't play My Team on either of them! gah! edit: anyone know which (if any) countries other than Scotland have to be redownloaded? Scotland is only 5.34 GB.
  15. haha just be glad it's not trois-rivières. average daily high/low is -2/-9 for december... which also happens to be the month with the most precipitation! yaaay regardless, I'm down.

looks to me like they're doing a soft reboot of the Dirt (arcade) series like they did with Grid. if they go back to 1 again, it's going to be very confusing... I wonder whether it'll be on current or next-gen consoles. YES! that Greece 1994 one was giving me grief. Greece is one of my favourite locations in the game, but I restarted so, so many times because of tiny touches.. also the 1991 & 1992 Scotland ones were super rough. I was able to clear them by several seconds each, but it took quite a lot of tries, relative to the other scenarios.
  18. lol u mad. look at this dude downvoting all my reasonable posts just because they prove him wrong... a) PJ said the car classes were tweaked. not the locations 😉 b) my point of "not playing events" was that you can upgrade your My Team cars and make credits by playing career mode. if you don't care about those things there's freeplay and colin mcrae. you can skip a couple of daily challenges and not rage on here about it. it gets boring after a while for us to read your constant tirades. c) the thing with there being more DLC challenges I have already said I agree with. I've been asking for this for over a year. calm down a little and think before you write

so a) read this: b) if you're playing the same locations too much for your taste, then just don't play them. nobody is forcing you! it's a video game, not a job haha. c) 99.9% of events are not the 6 base game locations haha. that's silly. it's more than there used to be because at the moment one of the Bonus tiles (the first one, next to the Promo events) is using only base game content for the thousands of new players on PS4. it's definitely temporary. Finally, I agree that I would like to see more DLC locations used in Community challenges (I have been asking them for this for over a year), but to complain about a random system like this is a little silly. the better request is: please set up the algorithm to not let itself pick more than 2 (to choose a reasonable maximum) daily events in the same location in a given day. 🙂
  20. you clearly don't understand how randomness works. read my post again. if you roll a dice 1000 times, at some point it will roll a 6 ten times in a row. random = **** happens.

haha of course. i know in my head they're faster at accelerating to that speed, but it's just amazing to see the difference in real life

goddamn that F1 car looks like it's standing still at the start. but it's an F1 car!
  23. the locations are random, the weather is random. and the car classes are random but tweaked. actual mathematical randomness doesn't always generate the pure variety we expect when we think of randomness as a concept. Killarney and Yas Marina (and Lydden, Estering, and Bikernieki too actually, but apparently you haven't noticed those) have popped up more often recently because there are always (at least, since the game was made free on PS Plus a month ago) two Promo community challenges every day which always (as far as I can tell) use DLC locations and base game car classes (the point is that they allow people who do not own DLC locations to try them out, but cannot do the same for the cars outside online MP). one of them is is always RX and the other is always rally. there are 5 DLC RX locations and 7 DLC rally ones. RX almost always uses the one class everyone wants to play (ie, Supercars) whereas rally can be any class (several of which some people use less, whether it's Group B or H1/H2. people clearly have more varied tastes and capabilities here) so it's natural that the RX tracks seem to get overused. among the Bonus (Daily) challenges, one of the four is always RX, and it uses any RX location in the game. that means it's possible for there to be 2 RX events in the same DLC location one day. it doesn't happen very often, but sometimes it does, and people complain when things like this happen, as if randomness doesn't generate coincidences. it does. if you run a randomness generator enough times, it is guaranteed to create coincidences. let's look at your example of getting one particular RX track in the rain twice in five days: there are 5 DLC RX tracks in the game. probability of getting Killarney in a Promo challenge is 1/5 (20%) let's say for argument's sake the algorithm picks rainy weather 33.3% of the time. probability 1/3 so the probability of getting Killarney in the rain is 1/15. (1/3 x 1/5) from Tuesday to Saturday, there were 5 Promo RX events. 1/15 x 5 = 5/15 = 1/3. so there's a 1/3 chance of this happening in any given 5-day stretch. but that's not all, because you need to include the Bonus events too. 1/13 RX tracks multiplied by a 33.3% chance of rain equals 1/39 chance of getting rainy Killarney on any given day; multiplied by 5 for 5 days equals 5/39, which is 12.8% 12.8% + 33.3% = 46.1%. so a 46% chance of getting Killarney in the rain in a Daily challenge over any 5-day stretch. finally, divide by 2 (because you need 2 instances of rain + Killarney, not just 1) and you get 23%. that's pretty high, isn't it? on average, that's nearly 1.5 times per month, just for that one specific track. now, before I get 5 people telling me the numbers are made up, yeah that's the point. this is just a thought experiment to show that randomness doesn't always generate occurrences that we think of as "random". because us humans aren't as good at estimating probabilities as we think.
  24. 2 events is not a big sample. I've been playing the game for 14 months and at various points I've kept track of what weather conditions and what stages the algorithm(s?) pick in My Team*. this has mostly been for rally events, but it means I keep mental note of it in RX too. *for example: I'll do a tally over the next week or two, and we'll see how it goes, yeah? today's RX events are in SA and Hell. 1 rain and 1 dry.
  25. ha, I was just about to ask this. but not for the saved game data (I only just downloaded my PS Plus copy, so I don't have any save files). I'm asking about the game data - will I have to download it again? or will I be able to activate the DLC licenses (or whatever the terms are) on my PS Plus copy? I cannot download 80GB again. edit: I bought it anyways, and yeah thankfully it just turned my PS Plus copy into a standard one, and unlocked the content items for me. unfortunately, it only automatically added the S1 and S2 to the game, so I had to manually download every single item from S3 and S4 (plus the CM pack) individually. and because the PS4's menu system is quite slow it took nearly 20 mins of repetitive fiddling to get it all... and now I have like 30 emails from the PS store thanking me for my purchase of $0.00
