Not strictly DiRT/fuzzynut gossip, but if anyone is looking for ways to kill the time between now and the release of DiRT 4, I'd recommend giving this a look...

...it's put together by the same guy who did the (rather excellent) "Evolution of Rally" films and it's got quite a few clips I haven't seen before. Good mix of music and raw audio car clips, plus it's quite honest about the good - and bad - points of the era. Far less sensationalized than "Madness on Wheels" which came out a few years ago as well.

NB: And the disc menu just has raw car audio on repeat: I left the menu on after the disc finished for much longer than I should have!
How does it compare to 'still too fast to race'?

Got it on my wish list right now,but can't get riding balls of fire here :(

I'm hoping we get off the topic of the useless argument about what to call the physics models. The "sim" snobs will still be snobs, and no one else will care. People don't get their feelings hurt over using a "Normal" or "casual" setting.
Hell, Wolfenstein had the dude wear a bonnet and a binkie on easy difficulty. No one cried about the unfairness of life.
We did, you brought it up again :D

@KickUp Once again, hats off to you sir for being here at such a late hour enduring our never-ending curiosity :).

Will you have at least one official livery per car?

P.S - How close was I with the detective work above ;)?
That's the plan but we are still in negotiation with some livery rights holders.

    P.S - Close-ish

I'm betting Audi (WRX) are still in negotiation and Hyundai.

  4. Everything is contextual, you called it the labelling of the physics mode.
That's incorrect, it's the labeling of the handling mode, you have to remove what you know about the game or what you think it means.

When you approach this as a new user who has played a racing game before, if you're asked about the handling mode and given a choice of 'gamer' or 'simulation' then, in English, you're going to know what is being asked.

  5. Paul is right that their research showed to use gamer and simulation, think about it.

You have to look at it from being each side, if you're a simmer, then you will see the other option as being casual.

If you're the other side, then you will not want to be classed as casual and you'll see the other side as simulation.

Gamer is a standard tag it's normal and infers what is nominal out there.

    Simulation is just that.
Just imagine a guy that bought DiRT 4 to have a good time playing a Racing game on his PS4, is he a gamer? No, he is a casual player. I think the word Casual involves the Gamer that doesn't know **** is a Scandinavian flick, and the guy that just want to drive cool cars through tricky roads with his controller without dying in the attempt
A gamer is someone who plays games, of course this player is a gamer.

You're thinking about what *kind* of gamer the player is.  Don't think too hard about this.

The fine edge they're having to play here, is to not label the other player as less than normal for choosing one over the other.

  7. Finished watching DiRT Show, good one. I don't think I have any questions left, probably :p
Rally location list screen at 12:55 is interesting, though. Also, slider bellow got me thinking that there're even more than 6 locations.

But, as this is a gossip thread, any wild guesses yet? I'm pretty sure 6th location is starting with M (and I'm talking about a country as well), take your pick:
    • Macau.
    • Macedonia.
    • Madagascar.
    • Malawi.
    • Malaysia.
    • Maldives.
    • Mali.
    • Malta.
    Hah, you forgot "mystery" :D

But yeah, i think that's a 'surprise me' option, not another location.

@KickUp Doing yesterday's daylies, I was reminded of something - how about the handbrake being disabled on cars that effectively didn't have one, like the Group B cars? Any chance of that happening? Would be fun for the authenticity AND challenge sake :)
Probably not, mainly because we're not racing in those time periods, merely with cars *from* then, which have since all been retro fitted with hydraulic systems.
Yeah but having working handbrake in an 4WD/AWD car requires active center diff, doesn't it?
    Nope.

  9. Yeah I saw the Volvo request, I'm like the possibility, so much stuff might happen with late licensing deals.

Likewise, there was mention of currently talking to Skoda and Citreon about some models,.

Again, all based on what deal may, or may not workout, but love that they have a chance :)
