    I have the thrustmaster t3pa pedals with a squash ball behind the brakes and they're still too light. A lot of muscle memory to get good with it. So I just went with ABS cuz I don't have the time.

    Its my go-to game right now. I'm neither a hard-core gamer or sim racer but I find it challenging. I prefer career modes in racing games as well and this is the best one that I have found.

    Fed up— rain and AI in the rain

    The skill ceiling for wet conditions is definitely higher, but the AI also never makes mistakes. You can't overdrive the car either, so its true pace is revealed. Fortunately, you can block the **** out of the AI with good fuel and ERS management. Lean Fuel and 1 or 0 ERS out of a corner makes traction a bit easier. Then switch to rich and overtake after 4th gear.

    R&D Cost Reduction Math

    I thought I'd write down the math though for those who are interested in a long career and want to find out the actual benefit to cost reduction efficiency. Personally, I plan to play the long game with Haas and started a new season after the recent patch. If you plan to jump teams after 1+ seasons, I agree. Totally not worth it. In my opinion, a good middle ground for cost reduction for along career is two levels for each tree. Should only take about 6 races, but save you net 6k-7.2k in research points down the line (not including resets and failures). At the end of the tree Ultimates cost over 1900 and majors are over 1400, so 20% off that cost is real. On the other hand, level 3 for each tree would initially take 10-11 races to research, but for less than 1k savings, you'd be on your back foot early in the career.

    The figures are based on the benefits of cost reduction before any components are researched. Obviously, if you research parts before getting the cost reduction bonus, it reduces the amount of total cost savings for the tree. And yes, there is a point where putting R&D points into cost reduction yields marginal or no savings at all. Its up to you when/if you want to devote points to cost reduction, but for max benefit, putting points in early is better than later.

    Each tree seems to be about 21-23k of total base research cost. This means each 10% research level equals 2.1-2.3k of savings (if done before any components are researched). Savings after cost reduction cost is factored: Level 1= 1.1-1.3k Level 2= .9-1.1k Level 3= .7-.9k Level 4= .5-.7k Level 5= .3-.5k Total: 3.5-4.5k savings per tree

    How has R&D been changed?

    Ever notice when accelerating out of a corner doing everything right and you’re 2+ tenths up in practice whereas other corners you have to be perfect in order to not lose time. Its the same if not worse in the wet. 90+ difficulty and you’ll see it. The good thing is, if you manage ERS right, you can keep AI behind. Its not that bad, but wet conditions makes the AI traction advantage all the more obvious.

    Its probably because the AI is flooded with R&D currency the deeper in you get. They do a lot of efficiently/durability which doesn’t impact development which is why some teams *seem* to progress super fast while others are more realistic.

    F1 2019 AI R&D

    My intention for this post is not to pile on as I have seen many other posts on this topic. I am hooked to this game. I am just seeking to implore CodeMasters to patch this asap as it feels like I am going nowhere and its simply taken the steam out of game. For some context, in F1 2018 I played Haas and was a championship team in season 2. A bit quick imo, but I chaulked it up to my own difficulty settings that I have been gradually increasing. This year I am at 100% with Haas and R&D is quite the opposite experience. I complete all practice programs, have done some efficiency/durability, always beat my rivals, complete most contract incentives (except the 24 points in 2 races) and consistently finish above expectations (5th-8th) , but I simply cannot keep up with the R&D comparative to *some* teams. During Season 1, Ferrari exploded. Literally 25% faster than every other team. I could consistently develop enough to be middle of the pack, so the on track challenge was there. I was leapfrogged by McLaren, Racing Point but was able to surpass RB and Merc (for some reason). Season 2. Ferrari was still 25% better than everybody. RB and Merc continued to remain stagnant, but the story of the year was Racing Point. They took off. Signed Hamilton and Verstappen and by seasons end were on par with Ferrari. Their progress bar is sight to see. Literally Majors, Ultimates every week even after the tech reset. I thought to myself, "no way they were able to keep that pace and still complete the R&D resets". (2 trees per year so far). So I was hopeful for Season 3. I advanced and Racing Point is now 25% better than Ferrari who dropped a bit. McLaren increased their gap, Toro Rosso leapfrogged me, RB is now back above me and Haas is sitting tied for 6th/7th with Merc. Now I've read that every driver transfer grants the player and AI research points. I have never transferred and obviously for the player's team, the co-driver does not offer research points even in the event of transfer. Some teams are swapping drivers like hot cakes. Racing Point for example. They signed Hamilton and Verstappen *after* they signed other replacements for Perez and Stroll. That doesn't explain Ferrari's absolute dominance, but at lease they came back to earth after the R& D reset. If this is the case and teams can double dip research points on driver transfer, can it simply be stopped. Just give the player a small stipend of R&D points to make up for their new team's knuckleheaded development and let the AI naturally develop based on whatever their drivers can earn for them. Thanks
