I would add a few negative points to the FLAT OUT pack too. I guess car physics again was tweaked and this time not the best way. The rear of the car became too slidy. Lateral grip is almost non existent especially in heavy rain. Yes, mud suppose to be slippery, but not like bare ice on summer tires. It looks like the weight of the car also decreased. It is especially visible with new Subaru Impreza S4. Each curb stone can sand you to the stratosphere. The car is low and Scotland have a lot of sneaky curb object so you will fly high and a lot. At all I have such impression the physics returned a little to Dirt Rally 2015 state, where each curb stone also send your car far and away. And yes, heavy rain is almost unplayable with internal cameras in Scotland or Poland. You can see absolutely nothing, but computer opponents and other outside camera "_____s" still flat out like nothing is going on. Still I love this game. Best historical rally in the market.

DiRT 3 Complete Edition - Patch 20/04/15 (FFB Fix)
Tigron replied to TURBODEVIN19's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
I had the same issue. Since Dirt 3 is deleted from in Steam for licensing reasons, I tried to get the patch straight from CM. Unfortunately I was refused and even the guy who made the patch is not working in CM any more since long time ago. I don't think CM even kept the distribution of Dirt 3. It is lost in history, like HOMM3 initial resources was lost with 3DO archives. The only hope is for community, that maybe somebody kept old archive in the disk. -

Codemasters, nice job for new content! But why no previous bugs was addressed? Even such small ones: Version 1.13 - Steam - Super Deluxe Edition -
Yet another FPS maniac. 120FPS and 60 FPS are great, but let's bring things back from heaven to reality a little bit. 1st, high FPS is great for shooters. Especially for sniper guys, who have to put their best head shot into a pixel. But when you wear a shotgun or rocket launcher, you don't care about accuracy that much. For racing games, especially for rally, it is not that much important either. The speed in rally is not that high. Anyway you have input lag because of the road surface. Especially when you play on the wheel and cannot rotate from one side to another at once. 2nd, how many people out there have best and newest equipment? How many people can afford to buy newest console on day 1, or hi-end PC with latest GPU and 120Hz monitor to actually feel that 120FPS? Only a few. Most of the people will still play on 3-4 years old equipment, sometimes 2nd hand. 3rd, FPS is not a true indicator of smoothness. You can have true 120FPS average, but also annoying lags in some places, because of buffer bottle necks and bad optimization. Highest and average frame time is the indicators you should look for a true smooth picture without lags. I myself play DirtRally 2.0 on a 4 years old gaming laptop, having average FPS at 30-60 depending on the weather and it feels completely comfortable with a wheel. There are only 2 places in Poland that I have problem of dropping FPS down to 25 that feels uncomfortable. But why I should drop overall quality of the game for just 2 places in 1 track. I just plan my championship strategy, taking problem places into consideration. So humble yourself! Game developers will continue doing money the way they consider comfortable for themself, without taking any of our personal opinion into consideration. If people consume something, then it will do.

Uh, again I am late for the gossip. It would be great if Hyundai i20 WRX will be finally added to WRX Supercars. Since GRX Taneco pilots took 4th an 5th place in 2019 World RX Driver Standings.

Since we are getting two new Subarus in Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack, I think it is good time to re-post some history video.

I agree that it is enough beating dead house of Ego Engine. It really did it's best in Dirt Rally 2015 and could not handle Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally 2.0 very well. But, if I were a developer, I would take a little pause right now. Let electronic market get calm a little. Intel is loosing their market to AMD. Chip compacting is in the dead end for now, so productivity will grow by multi-threading. NVIDIA brought ray tracing to the market, but we have not seen AMD answer yet. New generation of consoles are coming. Let alone other political and economical issues that will affect effective demand globally. So, instead of jumping straight into development, I would do some preparation work like acquiring licenses, new technologies and team that can work with it. Scanning some new tracks and cars. Developing game concept and mechanics. It is a huge work by itself.

Version 1.12.1 - Steam - Super Deluxe Edition Please optimize light and shadow processing on fences and net surfaces. The light is processed like fork bomb, creating huge FPS drop in some places of the track. Most visible in Jagodno, Poland in wet conditions with headlights on (see screenshots). My hardware: https://asset.msi.com/pdf/main/us/nb/GL72 6QF-697.pdf? and Logitech G29 steering wheel with H-sifter. My graphic settings: hardware_settings_config.xml Please, if possible, advise better settings for this particular setup, not to drop overall visual quality because of two problem places. -

Version 1.12.1 - Steam - Super Deluxe Edition Ford Fiesta Rallycross (STARD) is not part of FIA World Rallycross Championship, though it has suitable TRY livery. There are only 2 Ford Fiesta Rallycross (MK8) and 3 different Ford Fiesta RXS EVO 5. One of them has STARD on the grill, but it is still RXS EVO 5. All other RX 2019 cars added on January 28, like Mini and Clio are in FIA World Rallycross Championship. -
New DR driver - looking for the best CMR game to play alongside
Tigron replied to Andykara2003's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
@Andykara2003 for arcade rally game, you may start with Dirt 4 since you have it already. I have found that learning course in DIrt Academy is the best to start if you want to get used to Dirt physics model. You may also play career there. The career mode and team management in Dirt 4 is more fun, but automatically generated trucks get boring very soon. Rally cross and Land rush are OK, unless you get used not to stay on the way of AI opponents. Then you switch to Dirt Rally 2.0 will be pretty seamless. Dirt Rally 2015 is harder then Dirt Rally 2.0, because cars are lighter and tends to jump high on every stone. Dirt 2 and 3 are fun too, unless you can find a distributive or DVD. -
Can I use a ffb joystick as a h shifter?
Tigron replied to engel2004's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0 Support
Theoretically it is possible, if you use 3rd party program to take axles combination as bottoms and then program bottoms for gears. But practically joystick will center (switch to neutral) and I am not sure if it will hold the gear in this case. Also be ready to have a lot of missed 3rd and 4th gears, as joystick does not have any limiter. At the same time joystick can be a good sigmental shifter or hand break. -
Jämsä, Finland – Available Now in DiRT Rally 2.0
Tigron replied to PJTierney's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Where did I say that rain itself does not cause extra load? My point was, that Finland-remastered in DR 2.0 is not very well optimized, that cause excessive computational loads and was, so called, "fixed" by some tricks to meet tight release dead lines. Could you be more precise about what did I guess wrong? Another example of such "quality" work can be seen in Jagodno, Poland. Try to go through this stage in sunset, showers, wet conditions with headlights on. You will see a noticeable FPS drop in the following places: Entrance to the forest after 1st split, where crowd stands behind the net to the left and forest to the right of the road. Unseen 1 right after chicane in the middle of the 2nd split, as there are pole fence to the right of the road. It happens because the game try to process light reflections on pole fences and nets (as well as trees and branches) and cannot handle it the right way or disable this processing for not very powerful hardware. It feels like light in such conditions just processed like "fork bomb" - it interference over 1st obstacle, than next obstacle has to be processed taking both main and reflected light into consideration as well as shadow from the previous obstacle. When you have dozens of such obstacles one by one (like pole fence) you need a really huge commutation power to process them all. Or you just put an adjustable processing limit into the code to let if flow even of limited hardware. Unfortunately, Codemasters for DR2.0 did not find better way stop light processing, but just dimmed the light by means of fog and haze. So they are not that much code "masters". -
Jämsä, Finland – Available Now in DiRT Rally 2.0
Tigron replied to PJTierney's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
I would not say that there is no fog in rain. It is approximately the same amount of fog we had before in dusk, wet conditions. It is less visible, because it is blue and everything in such conditions disappear in blue haze. And yes, it affects performance. FPS on my toaster drops to 38 almost through all the stage. It only happened before in Poland in some very special places. I guess the reason for this is how modern graphics is made. Before there was limited light processing, so developers had to invest in better texture quality to make it look good. And they succeeded it so we have very beautiful Dirt Rally 2015, that in some cases (Greece, Finland) looks even better than more modern Dirt Rally 2.0. There were some disadvantages - fixed textures are fixed and creating realistic track degradation would cause a lot of effort to draw all the details. Modern graphics development is concentrated more on post processing (light and shade effects, ray tracing, etc.) Being under pressure from hard dead lines and profit expectations, developers usually economize time on textures, concentrating more on new staff and masking things that don't look great with some dirty tricks (hiding them in shades or smoke). That is why road surface in Dirt Rally 2.0 does not look so great, but instead it can be dynamically changed in new light and now we have surface degradation mechanics. Personally I don't like the way EGO engine evolved since Dirt 4 into plasticine kind of graphics. Distant pine trees even with ultra settings look like toys. Headlights at night shine bright but don't light enough distance, creating very unrealistically contrast picture. Some fences and nets, as well as crowd, cause huge FPS drop in some places. And since it is graphical engine problems, it is unlikely that it can be fixed in present title. Hope Codemasters are doing enough profits to invest in future development of their graphics engine for next title to support all that bells and whistles that we like to see in modern racing game - photo-realistic graphics, long real size stages, dynamic weather change, realistic road physics, tire degradation and car destructibility, etc. -
From Pad to Pro - Learning to use a wheel in DiRT Rally 2.0
Tigron replied to PJTierney's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Happy to see good progress @PJTierney 👍 But the choice of Formula wheel is so strange for me. What is the use of all that investments in racing rig, Fanatec, etc. if you still want just to drive in unrealistic environment for better time? If I were you I would just buy extra normal or D-shape wheel to play DR and set the rotation to 540° like in most WRC cars. This will give you better control on bumpy roads and more realistic feel. Keep you formula wheel for formula games. Fortunately Fanatec allow you to hot swap the wheel. As for hairpins, I think Tolt Valley Sprint in New England, USA has the most tricky ones. They are very tight and follow very fast split. So you really should not miss them and have to control the speed on entering very precisely. But if you master them (especially the combination of two), no other hairpin will cause you such trouble. FWD cars, drive very similar to AWD. They are very easy to slide front wheels that will cause deadly understeering. Must likely to pass hairpins you have to use hand break or slow down considerably to make sure you keep front grip on turn. When you pass the apex - just floor it and the car will drag itself out of the turn. You just control it. There is no risk to get oversteered into ditch like with powerful RWD cars. Just, if you have very light FFB, you might need to help you wheel return to neutral. For beginner cars, I also prefer more modern cars. Yes, if you go into career, free Fulvia or dirt cheap H2 FWD are OK for maximum profit. But R2, or even AWD Group A or NR4 are much better to control. They have better grip because of modern tires and suspension and just enough power when you need it. H1 and H2 cars are very underpowered and have long gears, so you have to take care not to loose much speed and RPM on turns, that make them harder to control for beginner. And when you change control method, you are thrown back to beginner, unless you get used to new instruments. P.S. I know that PJ Tierney is much more experience player then me and surely he knows much more about cars. But this thread is for everybody, and some new players may find my advice useful. I also started steering wheel recently (in September 2019). My experience and excitement are still fresh. 😺 -
Hello, Waiting for the 2nd season of DR2.0 I have decided to remember old good Dirt 3. I was very happy with it back then in 2012, but at that time I did not have the wheel and used my keyboard and chase camera. Now I have Logitech G29 and wanted to try Dirt 3 with it. Unfortunately the game is no longer in Steam due to the licensing issues (so the game is de facto abandon-ware). I managed to get the game from one of my friends as Dirt 3 Complete Edition. When I tried I have discovered the issue exactly described here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/321040/discussions/1/611702631209592196 Yes, I know, that G29 initially is not supported by Dirt 3, but there are a simple fix for it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/321040/discussions/0/483368433105982953/ In the first link there is a mentioning of the official patch with the fix. But since the game is no longer in Steam I can not download it. @PJTierney @justbiglee @justbiglee1 Is it possible to check the archives and publish the patch/fix on the official support site as stand alone patch? Or maybe, since the game is abandon-ware it is possible just to publish the solution (the files of Dirt 3 are not initially encrypted) that everybody can implement it for themselves? Dirt 3 Complete Edition My hardware: https://asset.msi.com/pdf/main/us/nb/GL72 6QF-697.pdf? and Logitech G29 steering wheel with sifter.

dirt 3 Racing wheel always forcing to the right
Tigron replied to Tigron's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0 Support
Then, maybe somebody in the community kept patched version on the game. I saw a few relatively recent videos (dated 2018-2019) of people playing Dirt 3 with G29 without FFB problem. If you sill have it, please send me the files related to force feedback (by PM if it is not allowed to do it publicly). I will look through them myself, trying to find the fix. Most likely it should be some settings or extra lines in .xml in \forcefeedback settings, but also maybe somewhere else. Would be nice to organize community support for a good old game abandoned by the developers. -

Version 1.11.1 - Steam - Super Deluxe Edition Some window textures do not become dirty or wet on the following cars. Especially visible in heavy rain. See screenshots in red circles. I understand tough deadlines before Christmas holidays, but please Codemasters, make your team (especially car modellers) concentrate more on quality than on deadlines. This is not the first times they do these mistakes. RX Supercars 2019 Ford Fiesta Rallycross (MK8) (Again forgot about side window behind the pillar) Peugeot 208 R2 (edges of the window shield dirtiness are not accurate, wet are OK) Opel Adam R2 (is it window leaf? Then do it look properly) -

Is it possible to make better optimization of light on fences and net surfaces? I have huge FPS drop in some places from playable 50-30 FPS to completely unplayable 24-28 FPS. The most problematic places are in Jagodno, Poland in wet conditions with headlights on: Entrance to the forest after 1st split, where crowd stands behind net from both sides of the road. Unseen 1 right after chicane in the 2nd split, as there are pole fence to the right of the road. My graphic settings are attached. My hardware: https://asset.msi.com/pdf/main/us/nb/GL72 6QF-697.pdf? and Logitech G29 steering wheel with sifter. Yes, I know that it is garbage that should be replaced ASAP, but this is what I have to use now. I have noticed some progress by turning off Night Lightning. Maybe there are some other parameters to tweak to get better performance especially through these problem splits without dropping all graphics quality to low. hardware_settings_config.xml -
GG! The best I got was 250 something with 3:32. Luckily got Space Star livery. 😻 Thank you very much Codemasters! 👍 Happy New Year Everyone!
