DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Will this forum cease to exist after EA fully take over!?
  2. Massive promotional hype and nothing in the actual game that the hype promoted.

Fair enough then. EA games seem to be style over content to me, with all the typical hype that goes with that.

Oh, phew! That''s something at least. With Codies in its current state you can get games straight from Steam without any middle-men, you won't get that again.

Pound to a penny all rally titles will be obliged to feature Ken Block.

EA killed Burnout, and I dread to think what they might do with any Codies titles. Maybe we should make the most of DR 2.0 as it could be a last hurrah.......

Can you do it with a controller!?

Unless you can rally in Cyberpunk 2077, you should still get some people hanging around here!

It was the way the settings were implemented in PC2, you couldn't make the same adjustments that you could in PC1 so you couldn't replicate the data. It was the same with DR1 and DR2.0. Most of the setups I used in DR1 were from Steam workshops so I had no idea what the adjustments were, I just loaded the settings up and off I went. When they ditched that format for DR2.0, I pretty much had to start from scratch as I'd never used the setup screens before. I would download Rally Technical's videos, go over them frame by frame, write down what the settings were and then put them into the game. It was a lot of hassle, but was worth it in the end.

When I found a usable setup for a car, I tended to use it on all tracks and it worked really well. On tarmac circuits you could get away with that. With rally stages, however, you needed to adjust for each location which was why @2Technical was a godsend. Some of the guys on the PC1 setup database were using data from real cars and boy were their setups good, they were from real drivers and teams and not just players in their bedrooms. That's what I've been missing from driving games since then.

Nice, can you put a word in!? @2Technical certainly gets my vote.

I think it would be nice if default tuning could be something that has actually been set up by someone that knows what they're doing, especially if you don't. If you download a setup, assuming you can, nine times out of ten it's made by an alien with a steering wheel and meaningless to someone with a controller. If you have a controller, there ought to be a default setup you could load that would enable you to really get the most out of the car right out of the box. Not all of us are Rally Technical (The artist formerly known as GTR Technical!), though I will say that his DR 2.0 setups work brilliantly even with a controller. What I loved in PC1 was the setup database, I got so much out of that site. I learned so much from that and was able to start making my own setups. Then, everything changed when PC2 came out and hardly any of the data I got from the first game looked like it could be applied to the second. That is the one thing holding me back a little from AMS2, lack of setup data from other players, if someone like Rally Technical would do likewise with games like AMS2 it would be a massive help. EDIT: Mmmmm, ok, Just looking at a video regarding AMS2 setups, and, you can see in the list of downloadable ghost setups which control method they used, be it controller or steering wheel. Now we're talking! This game gets better and better!

Where driving games stand, yes, it probably would hold up for a while, but, I also play FPS and RPG's and they are getting ever more sophisticated. When Cyberpunk 2077 was announced, I figured I'd be fine with the RTX I have, but, then they introduced more and more when it became clear to them that they'd have to put it out for newer consoles, and now, a week from release, I just about meet minimum specs as they're angling for the RTX 30 series buyers already.

Things move too fast these days, I only bought my RTX 2060 in March and it's already starting to seem like it's obsolete. That is one upside for consoles I suppose, the basic specs stay the same for several years. I'll see what comes out next year and if I start to feel like I just can't run anything then I may upgrade. However, you then have to choose carefully to guarantee a little more longevity........

Very impressive! If I can win by 1 or 2 seconds instead of 20 I could be inclined to give this one a whirl. I know it's not rallying, but, I have Dirt Rally games for that.

Now that does look good! Were I to fancy delving into another driving sim, this might well be one I'd consider.

Not looking likely I thought 1.16 was the last update.

I never had a XBox in any shape or form, I went from PS1 to 2 and then didn't really game much till I started building this PC. In GT I just used to start at the back because all the AI drivers in qualifying were way ahead of me anyway. For some reason, the AI then dumbed down when you came to race them and I always had an easy lead. I now prefer the solo endeavours like DR when you can just beat your own PB and don't even have to worry about championships if you so wish. That said I've been playing a lot more RPG's and shooters recently and haven't driven for months. I'll probably reset Dirt Rally when I get back to it as I'll be way too rusty to beat any previous PB's.

Each to their own I guess. After GT2 there wasn't much close racing anyway, if I tuned my car well enough I could always be several seconds ahead no matter what the class was. I started to go off GT a bit after that and haven't found many games that give me a decent challenge. In PCars and AC I was either miles in front or miles behind with no happy medium. I loved Colin McRae Rally in it's various incarnations as the challenge was still there and I had fun watching the car self destruct if I got a corner wrong. You couldn't damage anything in GT so it was sometimes fun to see just how much damage you could take in CM and still keep going. The same things carried over into Dirt Rally and the sequel and they were the only games that I felt recaptured the spirit of the original Colin game that I loved so much.

From day one I used any cheat engine going to bypass GT license tests. I could drive and race just fine but I'd always fail all the tests. They took the fun out of the games. I've never liked unlock formats either, I just want everything I want there from the start. That was why I liked Dirt Rally and the sequel as I could get in and just drive.

    Version 1.16 Update Discussion

I've never used My Team, so it would make sense for the Fiesta to be available right off the bat for single players, so thanks for that!

Would still be nice if we could apply liveries to DLC cars. Is there still no likelihood of this happening towards the end of life cycle. There can't be that much more planned after 1.16, If there could be an update that unlocked everything as a final act I'm sure it would make a few people happy.

It's actually good, if you go back a page or two you'll find PJ talking about settings he did for controllers, the game is great on a controller with them.

Yeah, I might one day. Some of my RPG's are LOOOOOOOONG though and after paying for them I want to see them through. I don't have a wheel so the FFB thing won't do much.
