  1. My original CD game made for Windows 95 & 95 amazingly works with Windows 10 in by running Game.exe in Windows 98 & ME compatibility mode. Truely codemaster piece it is.

How do I know if my Colin McRae Rally (1998) CD-ROM is the latest version ever released?

There were and still exist 3 official patches:

    • european.exe (1.5) (1044KB)
    • american.exe (1.5) (1044KB)
    • italian.exe (1.4) (1140KB)

Italian 1.4 patch has following fix details:

    - Copy protection fixed.
    - Medium and Full installations - Rally School hang fixed.
    - Australia 3 hang over jump fixed.
    - Qmixer sound file errors & conflicts fixed.
    - Force feedback self-centering added.
    - Improved graphic card support.
    - Dithering enabled.
    - Config file retained after uninstallation (keeps highscores & controller settings)."

and I have seem same fix info added to on websites where european.exe (1.5) and american.exe (1.5) patches are still shared

My original CD will not show any update animation with european.exe (1.5) ran. So this makes me more sure to assume I'm using european version as this CD was bought here in Finland and but if I run american.exe (1.5) or italian.exe (1.4) there sill be update progress animation. So it down updates it to those versions. If after that I run european.exe (1.5), it will also show update progress.

There are no visual markers in the game before or after howing what version it is. Game.exe fileversion is always 1.0.0.0

The only thing that makes me to believe my CD original is  1.4 or 1.5 is because after uninstall there will be the uninstall Details-button that shows: "Unable to delete folder 'C:\Codemasters\CMRally\save'." verify that cmRally.cfg is retained.

Also the paper manual verifies: After the uninstall savegames are still found at \Save\Saveslot_.CMS which makes me to thing this CD version and its manual are released with 1.5 fixes.

    Am I right?

Can anyone else identify any of those other fixes and  provide steps how to check if they exist in my CD-ROM version?  I don't know how to see if dithering is enabled or if Force feedback self-centering is added.

Maybe I should install CD version on one computer and patched CD version on another and see if they can multiplayer together. Seems like too much of a hassle.

Maybe some Codemaster could say right away what is the size of the latest game.exe or something like that. Too much expected maybe.
