Upshifting early causes a spin in 2020?

I like to think that it's one of those things that is still being tweaked. The amount of extra turn-in or traction that you may get from this type of maneuver would be a significant thing in terms of lap times. And if it's wrong, it's easy to take advantage of. Or, if it's wrong in the other direction, it's a nightmare for the players. Here's hoping they get it right. 🙂

What could that be in F1 2020?

Cryptic doesn't even enter into it. That statement could mean anything. I'm hoping he's talking about the DAS for Mercedes, or a new Physics/Handling engine, or classic tracks (Brands Hatch, Please!) but it could just mean they had trouble implementing split screen. I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks. 😕 Edit: Sorry to be "that guy." I certainly don't want to burst any bubbles. But this isn't my first hype train. 😉

    Bring Back Driver School

I love that F2 is now part of the game, and the lead-up bit that starts Career Mode is pretty cool. But then they stick you in an F1 car and expect you to know how to operate it? Oh, no, sorry, my bad. Jeff is going to teach you all about the car... and the pit exit... and the DRS... and pit entry speed... and everything else you may (or may not) wish to know... just as you hit that braking point for the tricky chicane. Seriously, F1 2012 had it right. Start the game by doing Driver School. Each component had levels (1 to 3 stars) if I remember right. The better you did, the more teams offered you a seat. If you sucked, you got the token offers from the low-end teams. If you did great, you got offers from better teams. It gave you a chance to learn about the car, DRS, turning, braking, the radio, pits (in and out) and all the good stuff you need to know, then get on with the racing. The only thing it didn't teach you was race starts. That would be a great addition. About the most you ever heard Jarvis say during a race was, "You've picked up some marbles; stick to the racing line and wear them off." And even that stopped after about the third race. In other words, you weren't treated like a noobie every time you sat in the car. Please, Codemasters, bring back the Driver School. It was a great introduction to the game, taught players how to operate the car, and was fun to beat. The current system of "Press Pause to learn more" is a bit silly. If I'm ripping down a straight, I'm not terribly interested in a video tutorial from good ol' Ant on the ins and outs of DRS. Also, being able to choose any team at the beginning of your career is very unrealistic. It is possible to be brought into a top team from F2, but you shouldn't really get to choose from every team. You might think it makes the game more appealing to the new person, but I preferred having to earn my seat. In fF1 2012, you got offers during the year for the following season. You could choose to accept or not. If you did really well, you got better teams looking at you. If you continued to suck, you stayed on the lower teams. It was a good system. Please bring that back.

Teammate became faster in Career Mode ???

And people still ask if this is a sim? 🤣

    Bring Back Driver School

This is one of the problems of designing just about anything these days. It's impossible to please everyone, but companies still try. In this case, however, it's mandatory for any real driver to go through Driver School AND GRADUATE before being given a seat in an F1 car. Complaining about that would be like complaining about having to do the first level of an RPG. Sorry, it's part of the game. Wanna just drive? Go do a Quick Race. Wanna be an F1 driver in a full Career Mode? Do Driver Training.

    Fix the AI in qualifying

With all due respect to your procedures, just have your Devs run a couple sessions of Qualifying. If they don't run into this issue, I will be very surprised. It's as if the AI have no knowledge that there are other cars around. Simply slowing down a bit and waiting for you to pass as they exit the pit would be great, and would certainly not hurt their out lap, but they never do. If someone is on the racing line, and on a hot lap (the game knows when this is happening because it shows up on the lap times page) and approaching an AI car NOT on a hot lap, the AI should just move completely off the racing line until the player has passed. If that means coming to almost a complete stop to they don't end up on the apex at the wrong time, so be it. That's what real drivers do if they have to.

    My Quest to Conquer Monaco

    Ah. 😉
  8. So, having started racing Monaco as "Cote D'Azur" in Gran Turismo, I knew the general layout of the track, and I managed to get good enough to drive it without crashing. Much. But in F1 2019, things are a little different, and I find myself a long way behind my competition. To be blunt, I just plain suck. My best time is 1:20.808. That was the one time I successfully navigated the swimming pool section and actually hit 6th gear. Now, I know from experience that my best bet is just to drive the track. A lot. Like, a couple hundred laps. I did that with Australia and that high speed chicane got easier and easier. When I started, I was dropping down to 4th, then up to 5th. By the end, I was comfortably staying in 6th most of the time. It just took a huge amount of repetition. So, that's the plan with Monaco. I have a guitar to fix tonight for my friend, but afterwards I'll be hot-lapping around the Monte Carlo. My first goal is to get under 1:20. That seems to be a bit of a wall for me right now. Once I'm comfortable (is it even possible to become "comfortable" driving around Monaco?) I'll be focusing on shaving off the tenths. Any advice for this elegant beast of a track is welcome.

T-cam ... t-cam ... t-cam... I've heard of that... OH YEAH! The view for people who can't see over the dashboard! 🤣 (But seriously, if you use t-cam and enjoy it, I'm only having a little fun; please don't be insulted; I honestly believe you should play any game however you want - they ARE games!)

That's impressive. But what I want to know is, HOW?! I would have to take off 8 seconds! I still have so much to learn. 🙂

F1 2019 Engine failure?? Newbie help!

I hear you. I have mine set lower than it should be because I don't want to stress over that aspect right now. I'm getting used to the game (played F1 2012 for the last 7 years) and having fun learning the ropes. Once I have the basics under my belt, I'll start looking for my perfect AI level. @sloppysmusic gives a great method to find your perfect AI. Start at 50. If you finish higher than expected, raise it by 1. If you higher lower than expected (without screwing up during the race) drop it by 1. There's more to it, but it got complicated and it's been a long week. 😛

    F1 2019 Help - New to this

The F2 in the beginning has no impact on who you choose for your F1 career. However, if you want to choose Williams (or any Mercedes-affiliated constructor) then you should try to lean on the "Sportsmanship" side when answering questions with Claire. That will help your reputation with those teams and get you a better contract.

F1 2019 Engine failure?? Newbie help!

If you're only on Race 2, you could start over. Frankly, I've done that twice now, and I've only had the game for a month. 😛 Live and learn. One thing I did this time around was to focus entirely on Durability in R&D. That will prolong the life of your ICE, gearbox, etc, as much as possible. Someone else mentioned using one ICE for P1 and P2, then using a different ICE for the race (like using a practise gearbox). That will also lengthen the life of the ICE - especially the first one, which gets beat up while you're working on R&D to finish the durability upgrades. I also tend to put in the minimal number of practise laps. It may not be as realistic, but it saves the powertrain. 15 to 20 per practise session is about my average. And for Quali, 1 hotlap on each set of tires, then back to the garage. Unless my first hotlap is terrible, then I'll usually just do a second right away.

    F1 2019 Help - New to this

Welcome! If you want a nice chill team, do like I did and go with Williams. They don't expect much (qualify 19th) and it's a fun challenge to take them to the top through R&D. It also gives you an "in" to Mercedes, as they use the same Driver Training. For R&D, I've read that it's best to focus on durability first. The ICE and gearbox will die early on if you don't, and you'll be taking a lot of penalties for new ones later in the season. I've basically ignored all aero, engine, and chassis stuff and have my ICE and gearbox fully durable, and my Turbo is nearly done as well. Again, welcome, and if you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask. Most of the people here are pretty helpful. 🙂

    My Quest to Conquer Monaco

I jumped back on this morning, went into P2 and did the Tire Management programme. On a very broken car. On my first attempt I pulled off a 1:19.038 and all I was doing was making sure that every corner was as smooth as possible. Apparently that's the secret to Monaco. I then went into the Quali programme and (again, with my very broken car) nailed a 1:17.047. That's 3.8 seconds off my time from yesterday. The next goal is to do 10 laps without hitting any walls. I think my current record is 3. And seriously, who does a 1:05 in Monaco?! Annakin frickin Skywalker?! 🤣

    My Quest to Conquer Monaco

Yup. That's the one. Please feel free to bring something like that into F1. It's much easier to follow than a car you can drive through. 🙂

I would if the ghost could be replaced with a line on the road (like Gran Turismo). The car messes with me when I'm really close to it.

    My Quest to Conquer Monaco

Wow. I'm not sure my nervous system could take a full 77 laps around Monaco. O_o Well done for that. I'm on a wheel. I used to use a controller, but switched almost 20 years ago.

    F1 2020 - Engine Sounds

I'm just really curious to know how this will sound. I use surround sound, so I'm wondering whether it will mix well, or just sound like the car got cut in half. 🤣

    F1® 2020 | Spain Hotlap

Good points. Now stop bursting my bubble. 🙂 I'm in a lovely dream world where F1 2020 has amazing handling, setup options, AI with a decent amount of "I" and Stewards with correct prescription lenses. 🤣

    F1® 2020 | Spain Hotlap

If these are only visual discrepancies, and don't affect how the car drives around the track, and instead the team spend their time updating the physical surface of the track itself, the handling of the cars, and maybe even some other much-requested fixes (hey, I can dream, right?) then I can certainly live with some visual things - especially since my eyesight isn't that great, and at 300 kph I'm not paying much attention to the trees and cranes. 🙂 Also, wouldn't it be easier to patch visuals, rather than underlying physics code? I honestly don't know. I just figure it would take a lot more time and effort to change the handling, as that is what the game rides on (sorry for the pun), so that should be where they spent their resources over these last few months. Now they can focus on tweaking the smaller things like missing visuals.

    My Quest to Conquer Monaco

Ok, an update. I didn't get a chance to race last night, but I jumped into Time Trial this morning before work. It was immediately apparent what my main issue is. ICE on its last race (literally) Gearbox already lost one gear and needed repairing after Baku Turbo that is more of a Turd-O MHU-H that's trying to H itself out of existence and I just had an oil leak this morning. The Time Trial car is so nice. Can I have one of those? Anyway, in Trials I managed to get into a nice groove and ran three consecutive laps under 1:18. My best is a 1:17.938 Then I went back to P2 (and my broken car) to see if it made any difference. First hot lap took 6/10 off my previous best with a 1:20.2. Finding that groove really helps in any track, but in Monaco it is essential. As I mentioned above, it's the finnagliest track on the calendar. And I still have lots of finnagling left to do. 🤣
