Wow I'm loving Windows 10, everything @RevolvingPrawn said was correct. Even coming from Windows 8.1 this feels like a big upgrade. Edge (IE) is awesome, and so is the music app. Without me doing anything, it added all my music in seconds. Microsoft have listened, the way it fused it all together into a really modern feeling OS is fantastic. I would highly recommended anyone with 7 or 8.1 to upgrade.  Once Edge allows extensions it'll be perfect.

Edge is a completely new Browser for Windows 10, IE will be still there but moved to a folder out of the way with other older programs like paint.

  2. 'Something like DiRT' ........ I don't like the sound of that...

Unless they mean DiRT Rally Ultimate Edition...

I have to say that the interview gave me mixed emotions. On one hand there are bits, which suggest that now with the positive reception to DiRT Rally they want to take it to consoles with confidence that it would sell well.

But then they say things like: 'When it comes to making a bigger, broader game, you have to start making trade-offs, because not a lot of people will get into a really difficult rally sim.'

Sounds like back-pedalling from the authenticity and focus of DiRT Rally back towards the broadness and more mass appeal of DiRT 1-3.

They seem to think they can read what people want, but they went full out with GRID 2 (eh...) and GRID Autosport (OK but far from amazing). The reason why Codies are not that healthy financially now is that those games didn't sell well.

So why not drop the assumption that a focused 95% sim game won't appeal to many people? It has already on Steam Early Access and it will appeal to console players, who definitely want a thrilling and authentic experience. Not a watered down version with narrative full of stereotypes and americanism.

This: 'I think right now, our focus has got to be on DiRT Rally and getting that right.' suggest there will be more to DiRT Rally than just PC Early Access.

Overall, I'm not sure what these clearly important game directors are saying... Behind all the chat about giving employees opportunities and making games people ask for there is this halo of pre-DiRT Rally days when employees were made redundant and GRID 2 was released....

So will we see the vision of DiRT Rally continue?
Seems that management may want DiRT 1 - 3 discipline type racing added to DiRT rally when they say "When it comes to making a bigger, broader game, you have to start making trade-offs, because not a lot of people will get into a really difficult rally sim"

  3. Red Bull posted this interview with Codemasters creative director James Nicholls on Facebook today.

    http://www.redbull.com/en/games/stories/1331737836679/codemasters-studio-interview

"Codemasters has been fairly late to adopt the new consoles – will we see you embracing Xbox One and PS4 more in the future?
CM: We’ll definitely be embracing them a lot more, but I don’t think being late or being perceived to be being late is going to harm us. The install base is getting bigger and bigger, so when we do come in we’ll have a lot of people with the consoles in their homes, waiting for Codemasters games to play. I’m sure we’ll see that with F1 pretty imminently, and I think when we can get something like DiRT onto console, that will go great guns too."

Notice they say DiRT not DiRT rally?

The Win 10 update hasn't hit there i think, haven't been prompted to install it as yet.
You don't have to wait for it to show. If you reserved it then it will prompt you when it's ready, but you don't need to. Microsoft made it available for download for all here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
19mb doesn't seem right for the download? or will this program download Win 10?

Why should it be licensing problems?Codies have the licensing for the series (FIA WRX) so what is the difficulty in including rounds of a licensed series.Plus two of those tracks (Hockenheim and Istanbul) have appeared in other games made from the same company (see Grid series). And Catalunya has appeared in other games (not by Codemasters). So it looks weird to me.
They may have the licenses for those tracks for F1 but they can't just use them in a different game without permission.

Just had a look at the steam achievements, we got some new Rallycross achievements.
    Good spot!

Interesting one has something to do with unlocking of the RX championship:

    Playing With The Big Boys

Unlock the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

How would we have to unlock it? Hmm?

I really expected an achievement such as Magic Weekend: Win at Holjes by punting off your rival in the last corner
or Crazy Nowegien: hunt a moose down.
You might need to play through the Rally career first to unlock it, i remember with DiRT 3 you had to do certain races to unlock for more stuff.

  7. This could be just me but I've taken a few cars from start to masters in career and noticed that upgrading seems to be a waste of time because as my car is upgraded so are the AI's, cancelling out any possible advantage . . .

I have one of those feelings where you can't quite put your finger on it but it's about there being something not right with the scoring system . . . it's as if I just know no matter what improvement I make unless it's a monster one the AI will keep getting a bigger boost to their times e.g., I improve by 5 secs, they improve by 15 secs, I improve by 15 secs, they improve by 30 secs etc. . .
They raised the AI's difficulty because people were saying they were too easy to beat.

  8.   Yeah it was either Lee or Paul who said that management gave the team the go ahead to make a rally game for the fans and now i guess that management want to go back to a more casual gamer type of game like the previous DiRT's.
I'm 99% sure that is not the case...

If anything the response to DiRT Rally has confirmed that this direction and focus on authenticity is what the players wanted now.

In my opinion the next game will be an expanded DiRT Rally with a bigger budget and console versions.

According to Steam Spy DiRT Rally sold about 110 000 digitally as Early Access game - F1 2015 sold less than 30 000 and it's a high profile full release. DiRT Rally is a living proof of giving players what they specifically asked for pays off.

Talking about all of this seems a bit premature, we're still about three months from end of EA. I guess the admission that no DLC is in the works and mod-support is not going to happen just made us aware that after enjoying DiRT Rally so much the joyride of Early Access is going to end pretty soon.

I'm sure Codies high-ups and execs are planning what to do next and a console pie is too tasty to miss out on it.
So they must be thinking: DiRT Rally sold so well as Early Access PC game - surely it will sell well on consoles. So now they're faced with the following choices:

    1) Bring DiRT Rally to consoles
    2) Complete DiRT Rally on Steam PC and start making a new DiRT Rally like game for consoles and PC
    3) Develop DiRT Rally beyond release either with subs or DLC
    4) Option 3 while doing the same for consoles

Something will happen, we just don't know what yet. By being selfish I'd like DiRT Rally to live on and get stuff added, but the potential revenue from consoles must be very appealing.

But do Codemasters have the finances at this time to go all out, big budget on the next DiRT game? I'm just hoping they won't spend what DiRT Rally made on GRID 3....
Ok so Lee said that DiRT rally is Paul's and the teams game and so i guess management gave the ok :)

Yeah they have a smaller team because of the recent layoffs and i would guess that they would spend some of  that budget hiring more people.

  10. There's some talk about after EA in another thread about DLC most are ok with some are not. Also some thought that Codemasters said that we will be getting free update after EA and thats why they signed up.

The post on reddit @Azorest linked to makes it pretty clear there are no plans for DLC.

If there are no plans for DLC then it must mean that the devs and artists are moving onto a different project...

How did they arrive at a conclusion that post-EA updates will be free...? It was made very clear that Timeline updates would be included in the price, so to save money it made sense to get in right at the start.

I do wish that DiRT Rally would become a service - I'd be more than happy to pay some money every month for development of new locations/stages/cars and features (stage evolution), but based on the signals we're seeing the plan is to complete EA of DiRT Rally and do something else.

However, I think that something else will take the message given by people who played DiRT Rally and console players who really wished they could play it, to make DiRT Rally MAX or something... and not go back to the dudebro bonanza and lack of authenticity of rally.

But then again would I like to wait 1-2 years for a release? To be honest no... I feel the wait for DiRT Rally since D3 was long enough, and now with such an amazing base I'd love it if the game was developed and improved  beyond it's nominal release.
They thought that once you pay you get everything free even after EA.

Yeah it was either Lee or Paul who said that management gave the team the go ahead to make a rally game for the fans and now i guess that management want to go back to a more casual gamer type of game like the previous DiRT's.

But yeah, anyone got any DiRT Rally gossip?
Haha smoooooth return to the topic at hand :D

I've not seen that much Gossip lately, but noticed that people start to wonder what will happen in a couple of months time.

There is a clear plan from the timeline on what content will be added, we know that there's more cars on the way and MP mode.

However, what is not quite clear what happens when EA is over. Of course, the game will go to v1.0 and be available for puchase, but in a way that's the state right now.

With such commercial issues at hand the devs perhaps do not have a permission to discuss yet whether there will be any DLC or what post-release packs of features or content there are plans for.

Will the end of Early Access mark the end of development of DiRT Rally?

Will Codemasters work on and release consoles versions of DiRT Rally? There seems to be an apetite for it...

The dev team is clearly focused on what they've promised/announced for Early Access, but I do wonder that the execs are planning.
