My Team and time trial. Because I’m still fairly new to the F1 games (about three months now) each race weekend takes me around three hours, from FP1 to podium. So if I don’t have time I like to go on time trial mode and practice the next circuit, or just try my damndest to practice anything with traction control turned off rather than medium.

I quite like this one from the exit of Turn 1 at Zandvoort, because it feels like it shouldn’t really have been seen, if you know what I mean. A sneaky photo of a battle being caught just as the cars were disappearing from view.

Just to continue my own findings - I started the Dutch GP weekend still on 92 and I was miles off the pace in FP1. I went and put in lap after lap on the hard tyres for pretty much all of FP1 and eventually found myself in about the right sort of place. By the end of FP3 I was fourth on the timing screens so upped AI again to 93. Managed to qualify in tenth, scraped through to Q3 due to getting an early lap in before it rained whilst others left it too late. But the ones who did get through were miles faster than me in Q3 on the inters (around 2-4 seconds a lap). Anyway, I finished the race 5th. Even better than China. Helped by both Mercedes cars needing new front wings, Leclerc doing a weird unnecessary two stop strategy and Albon retiring, but still. I’ll take it. Now I’m wondering if I should put the AI up to 95 for Spain. I probably should, because I shouldn’t really be able to run this high just yet (five races into Season 1 on MyTeam). But my main point is practicing. If I hadn’t put the laps in in FP1 I’d have been miles away from where I eventually managed to start and finish the race. So I’m not sure if the AI is weaker or stronger or we just get better through practice.

I never had a safety car in F1 2019, and I’ve not in F1 2020 yet either. I’m beginning to think it is only a mythical object! One VSC in Vietnam so far which lasted around fifteen seconds, no idea why because nobody retired.

Canada is actually one of my weaker circuits so I might not need to worry there. I’m always bemused when I see people say how the AI is weak there, I always seems to struggle! I’ve just done the Chinese GP weekend and I was looking pretty pacey in practice (2nd overall in FP3 after doing the quali sim run). So I raised the AI to 92 for qualifying and managed to get 7th, which still seemed a bit high. A changeable race weather wise and managing to be on the right tyres at the right time (and a DNF for Hamilton) promoted me to P6 by the end of the race. However Giovinazzi was 3rd and Kvyat 4th after starting in the bottom six so it was a bit of a crazy one all round really, and not really a good one to compare AI difficulty with. I’ll start the Dutch GP weekend on 92 now. I don’t really want to lower it again, I upgraded my rig when the new game was released so it could just be getting more used to it, as well as the new car handling, and therefore a bit faster in the game. Maybe I’ll be on of those playing on 100 AI soon. Hopefully!

I often wonder if the forecast can be wrong. You find out on a Friday what the weather is going to be all weekend, obviously that’s not the case in the real world. It’d be nice to have the odd unexpected downpour, especially during a really overcast race.

A little part of me dies every time I need one but I’m just not skilled enough to last a GP without them yet! My worst race so far was Bahrain on Season 1. I qualified and practiced much better than Australia and was on course for a decent race, making up places at the start and running in the top 10. However some slight contact with Ricciardo cost me my front wing and a poor two stop strategy choice put paid to any of those lofty ideas, and I finished 16th.

I can’t help but feel that flashbacks were invented to help with some of these problems.

I’ve got the AI on 90 at the moment. I qualified 13th in Vietnam in sunshine and then finished 15th in a race that rained from start to finish. Which seemed about right. I wouldn’t expect to be much higher up the order, and my quali and race positions were quite similar.

He’s in F1 on my game. He’s my teammate on My Team. I couldn’t not sign him.

I do wonder what will happen next year. If the world isn’t back to a bit more normal there could be all sorts of surprises in the calendar. It would take a lot of work for Codemasters to produce everything in time for F1 2021. I believe the Miami race is still scheduled to go ahead next year so I guess that’s one track they’ll have probably already started work on. But who knows really, now.

Hungary and Japan are my worst by some distance.

I started Australia on 90 AI (that was my level from F1 2019) and found it really difficult. Couldn’t get close to green on the practice programmes. Lowered it to 85 which felt about right. However Bahrain seems a bit easier (I’ve only done FP1 so far and completed most of the practice sessions with purple) so maybe I need to put it back up. I do much prefer the Sakhir circuit to Albert Park so maybe it’s just me.

It’s the only assist I’ve not managed to turn off yet. I thought I’d try it on this new game but I was still suffering a lot of spins so I’ve put it back to medium for the time being.

I did the first round in Australia and when qualifying was finished Jeff said to me ‘we are further down than we were expecting’ which surprised me as I was 17th and had completely failed the quali sim run practice session (by over a second). I’m not sure where he expected me to be. 17th felt about right for a first outing. And my teammate was 18th so we were very even. Actually, to that end, I really struggled with most of the practice sessions. In the quali sim I was two seconds faster than my teammate but still a second slower than my target time, which puzzled me.

I got to agree. I’ve only managed one race weekend so far on My Team mode (job, kids etc!) but I’ve found it enjoyable and exciting. However I’ve also got a new wheel and pedals and that is taking a little getting used to, I’m much more spinny than on the 2019 game.

Good morning, I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m very new to the world of sim racing. I’ve had a Logitech G29 wheel set up for a few years but with a full time job, shifts, and a young family, I’ve barely been able to use it. But watching the Virtual GPs got me hooked, so I bought F1 2019 in May and have been playing as much as I can ever since. I’m desperately trying to win the world championship in career mode before F1 2020 comes out but I’m not sure it’s going to happen! I also own Project Cars 2 which I’ve just started playing, and looking forward to the new Dirt game later this year, having last played one a few years ago. I’m a PS4 racer, my PC is nowhere near up to scratch to start playing games on. However I am looking into upgrading it at some point and transferring over to that platform. I’m also interested in hopefully joining some online leagues and enjoying some good clean racing with other people, unlike the ranked and unranked lobbies which are frankly terrifying into turn 1. This actually happened in an F2 (or maybe F3) race last weekend in Austria. I can’t remember the drivers involved, however somebody was very slow on the exit of Turn 3 and another driver went into the back of them.

I have four races left on my second season on F1 2019. Desperately trying to finish it before Friday, sadly I’m almost certainly going to finish 2nd and be denied the World Championship on this game. Bravo for getting it all done in time!

I made the switch a couple of months ago and I can’t go back. It feels so unnatural to drive in auto now, and it’s so satisfying to get the gear changes spot on.

Physical copy for me, pre-ordered today. I’ve never downloaded a game to the PlayStation, I’m not sure if I trust the technology. I’m basically living In 1999.

I’m in a similar position, I’ve been racing with a Logitech G29 but thinking of upgrading to a Fanatec setup for F1 2020. However I’m a little concerned about compatibility with PS5 (I currently play on the PS4) and I don’t want to spend loads of money on something that I might end up not being able to play with for very long. I’ve also read a few threads on here about Fanatec wheels not working properly with a PS4 which puts me off a little too. I’ll probably leave it a while until it is confirmed it will work with a PS5.

I’m only on my second season and I’ve not really had much to do with them yet, outside of the F2 skits. Weber is in a Williams, Butler in a Torro Rosso, and neither of them are picking up points with any regularity. I’ve moved on from Alfa Romeo to Ferrari and am in a three way championship battle with Verstappen and my team mate Leclerc. Kind of forget they are there to be honest. I guess maybe at some point they will move to better teams and compete a bit more.

Im playing on level 90 and won in Monaco and France, but not Canada. I think I’ve got the game the wrong way around! I must agree they seem to be on another level in Hungary though. Maybe I’m just not good at that circuit.
