I’m so confused by this gearbox wear, I go three races where it is about where I expect (12-13%) and then one where it is at least double and I can’t work out what I’m doing differently between tracks. I know different tracks have different characteristics but it just seems way off.

I finished 19th there but I did start last after some grid penalties, Latifi was the only car I could get in front of on track. Just put it down to a bad day really.

I’ve managed to turn the rubber stopper under the throttle pedal the other way up and the difference is vast, I now reach 100% almost exactly at the point the pedal stops moving. It’s not quite exact but it’s an awful lot closer. Should help no end with getting used to no TC.

I can’t work out how to keep the car sharp and make the background blurry. I was having a play this evening but can’t get it right.

I’ve just ordered a TrakRacer TR80 cockpit. Looking forward to getting that set up. Should be a step up from my Playseat Revolution. I had it in China, Vietnam, Netherlands and Spain consecutively which was really fun. Two brand new tracks to try to get used to and racing around in the rain.

Yes, it’s every time. After a little research it seems a fairly common problem with CSL Elite pedals, and maybe adjusting the rubber underneath might change things. I’ll have a fiddle with it later on. I’ve not played any other games since owning them so might be the same I guess. It is a bit frustrating, like you I reach 100% throttle after pushing the pedal around 1/2 or 2/3 down. But I’m not sure it’s on Codemasters, not without tinkering a little first anyway.

My saturation is on 0 so I’m not sure it’s that. I have played with all of those settings but I can’t work out how to actually make it work as I want.

I spend ages doing practice. I try and complete all the practice programmes to get the maximum R&D points. I normally go and drive for the first part of FP1, just to get a feel for the track. Then do track acclimatisation, followed by race pace towards the end of the session. Then in FP2 I do all the other practice programmes and make adjustments here and there to my setup. And finally in FP3, I fit fresher components and have another crack at the bits I failed on before. Then full qualifying and a 50% race. The whole lot normally takes about three hours start to finish, so I don’t get chance to play every day. Tomorrow is looking like the next time I’ll actually get chance! At my last GP in Hungary I also spent about 45 minutes on time trial mode first, just because it was my worst track on F1 2019 so I wanted to try and get some extra practice in before heading to the race weekend. I’m still very new to all this and I don’t trust myself on each track to go into it without a lot of practice and tweaking first. On F1 2019 I got through a season and a half on career mode and that’s it. I don’t play online very often and not in any leagues so practice really is my chance to ‘relearn’ each track.

I’m playing MyTeam with TC on medium, and then having a go on Time Trial mode with TC off altogether when I don’t have time for a full race weekend. For the first time the other day I managed a few consecutive laps of Hungary without spinning with TC off. However I was still faster with TC on medium as I was being a bit too careful and trying my best not to spin, so was a bit more cautious on the throttle. One thing I can’t quite work out is my preferred throttle linearity, I’d like my pedal to only apply 100% power when I have it pushed flat but it goes to 100% when I’m about 2/3 of the way down, which makes it more difficult to judge. I guess it’s just practice practice practice.

I’m still confused because some races I get ~12% gearbox wear and others I get ~25% and I just can’t see what I’m doing differently from race to race. I’m racing on manual gears with a CSL Elite wheel. I’ll try downshifting more gently but the fact that some races I’m getting wear about where I’d expect makes me wonder if this is the problem. As an example, I had 12% wear on a brand new gearbox after Silverstone, and then 24% after just qualifying at Hungary.

More than I’d like. I think I used three during the Hungarian GP (50%) yesterday. One of them was because Sainz span me around at the penultimate corner, when there clearly wasn’t room to make an overtake. The other two were just correcting my own stupidity. I think I’d come last in every race by a margin if I didn’t use them. However, I don’t use them in qualifying. That feels too much like cheating. In practice I don’t see a problem with using them as I am literally practicing driving around the track. Surely the idea is to be able to do bits over and over if you need to. Which I do because I’m still pretty new to the gaming world.

I’ve decided to just keep my AI pretty constant. I started off this game on 90, and have gradually increased it as I feel I get better. I raced Austria on 93 and finished 7th, then GB on 94 and finished 19th (first season MyTeam). But that’s just the way it goes. Hungary is next and was my worst track on F1 2019 so interested to see how it goes this time around.

Is that a Clubsport or CSL Elite wheelbase? Or direct drive?

My season is odd in that at some races the gearbox wear is around 12% and others around 25%. It’s like the gearbox can’t handle certain tracks but is fine at others. I certainly don’t think I’m being at smoother at some more than others, I’m driving the same everywhere.

Just to add to my own post - I ran the Azerbaijan GP weekend today, and my event gearbox wear increased from 47% to 60%. So back to the 12-13% wear per weekend that I was experiencing pre-patch 1.05. I downloaded patch 1.06 last night so was running on that instead, and I’m wondering if that is what has made the difference? I hope so anyway. I’ll try and do Canada tomorrow, so should get a better idea then.

1. A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here. My event gearbox is wearing out way too fast since Patch 1.05 was released. I played the first four races prior to 1.05, and was averaging around 12-13% gearbox wear per race, which would’ve seen me through the mandatory six races before changing. Then 1.05 downloaded and my wear was 20% in one race which took me up to 70% wear. So I took the hit of the penalty for Race 6 in Spain, and after that one race I was at 25%, and after Monaco I’m now at 47% wear. So wear now is approximately double what it was per race before 1.05 downloaded. I did notice during qualifying it was adding around 3% wear per run, ie. out lap, hot lap, in lap. It wasn’t doing anything like that much previously. 2. Platform PS4 3. What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen) 1.05. The problem has only occurred since it was released. 4. Game-mode? My Team. Honda engine, 22 race season. 5. What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too. I’m just playing on through the season to see how it changes. Will take another penalty in Canada, after just three races with this gearbox I imagine. 6. What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue I’ve tried changing my driving style a bit and short shifting more but I’m not sure that’s got a lot to do with it. 7. What peripherals are you are using (gamepad, wheel make & model etc) I’m using Fanatec CSL Elite F1 wheel, wheelbase and pedals. 8. Any screenshots or video of the issue? If the video is long, please include a timestamp for when the issue appears. I’ve attached two images, screenshots taken after the Spanish GP weekend showing wear on my first and second gearboxes.

I’ve experienced this one for the first time today too. My first gearbox was going nicely for the first four races of the season, in the fifth race the wear jumped right up to 70% wear. Figured I’d better take the pain of the penalty in Spain and have a new one. Did the Spanish GP and the new one is on 25% wear already. Not as bad as some other people but still not ideal. The first gearbox after Australia was on about 12%. I can do a bug report but I doubt it’s really necessary now, enough others have already done it and the devs are well aware.
