[BUG?] Lack of AI Crashes/Incidents/Mistakes/Errors and therefore No Safety Cars
ostendorfjens replied to Welham182's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
@undead9nja I really don't understand why you're still arguing. Have you even read my post? What you are claiming is just not possible! Probability just doesn't work the way you wish it would. You cannot make mistakes a certainty! Even if you give an AI driver a 99.9% chance of screwing up, that is no guarantee he will. 100%, that's certainty. 99.9% is not. As long as you leave the game a loophole to escape the predicament you are trying to create, no matter how small the loophole actually is, chances are the game will exploit this loophole. The only way to make mistakes/crashes/failures a certainty would be through getting rid of all random elements, all randomness. As long as you don't do that, there will always be a chance nothing will happen at all. And I'd hate to see a game without any random elements. "Oh, so Hamilton beat Bottas by 8.347 seconds. Let's try again! Oh, he did it again! By 8.347 seconds! How is that possible! Let's have another go! Gosh, he did it again! 8.347 seconds! What the f...?" -
[BUG?] Lack of AI Crashes/Incidents/Mistakes/Errors and therefore No Safety Cars
ostendorfjens replied to Welham182's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
Sorry to contradict you there, but the probability theory tells a different story. Let's say you have a six-sided dice. Now, in theory, the chance for getting a six at each throw is one out of six. So after six hundred throws, you should end up with one hundred times six. The problem is, that's not how probability works. The dice has no memory, so it doesn't remember how often which number came up. The next throw, the chance is, again, one out of six. And if you're unlucky, you end up with yet another measly one. The same goes for the next throw. So it's perfectly possible, although admittedly unlikely, to end up with having no sixes at all, even after having done six hundred throws. That's what I'm talking about here. All you can do, all the guys and girls at Codemasters can do is tip the odds in favour of drivers making mistakes. Neither you nor they can make them a given. That's exactly why I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that sometimes you're s**t out of luck while striking pay dirt the next time. As long as there is probability, as there is chance, as there is randomness, there will always be those who never experience what both of us are hoping for. That said, I still second you in your wish for more mistakes. But you just can't make them a certainty, not as long as random elements come into play. -
[BUG?] Lack of AI Crashes/Incidents/Mistakes/Errors and therefore No Safety Cars

@undead9nja It might come as a surprise to you, but I actually agree on everything you say! I'd love to see more aggressiveness, more errors, more diverse driver behaviour. All those things you mention, I think they'd improve the game by quite a big margin. If overtaking a car feels just the same as overtaking the next one, things tend to get old really fast. But if there is one guy among all those drivers whose car seems to become wider, the more you are closing in on him, and if you then manage to overtake this guy despite his best attempts at thwarting you, you get a real sense of "I have achieved something great here." This is something that's sorely missing with all those "robot AI" drivers this game seems to feature. I'd love to see more mistakes, more variety in driving through corners, more aggressiveness when approaching a braking zone. Races would surely be far more interesting! But, and here's the crux of the matter, I'm not convinced that even with all those changes implemented, the game would change all that much when it comes to catastrophic failures, to accidents, to safety cars. Because at the end of the day, we still have the very same problem: Even if we have a certain percentage of someone screwing up in any given section of a track, we have no guarantee that he will screw up. Maybe you increase the likelihood of something interesting happening, but more likely than not, nothing will change very much. When in doubt, all F1 games by Codemasters err on the side of caution. They want the races to be decided on the track, not in the tyre barrier next to it. And since that's the case, I don't think we'll see many more crashes, even with more aggressive/more random AI behaviour. As the last real-life races have proven, the number of DNFs in each race is way higher than anything you get to see in these games, you're perfectly right about that. But I'm afraid that's exactly the way the the Codies want it to be. If that wasn't the case, we'd have seen way more crashes and safety cars in the games already - they had more than ten years to tinker with the underlying mechanics, and on the whole, the number of cars finishing a race in F1 2020 is pretty much exactly as high as it was in F1 2010. So everything you said, while I agree with it from the bottom of my heart, probably is little more than wishful thinking. Sad, but true! -

1. A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here. Ever since buying the game, I've been trying to sign up with Racenet, but it never worked. I filled out every single option, gave my email address, picked a name, a password, read all terms of services and check-marked them, everything. But for whatever reason, the game never gave me the option of finishing the process; the option always stayed red, as if I had failed to fill out the form properly, which I haven't (as the first screenshot below proves). Then I read somewhere that it might not work because I'm from Germany. So I paid the Codemasters homepage a visit and logged onto Racenet there. Worked like a charm. (This actually is the login I'm using on this page here ...) Now, I tried to use the name/password I picked there to try and sign in within the game. Only to find that it didn't work either (as the second screenshot proves). Again, the game acts as if I've failed to fill out the form properly. I've tried it countless times, and right now, I'm at my wits' end. What may be the reason for this? Is this a bug? Is there a workaround? Does it really not work because I'm using a German email address? Questions upon questions ... Is there somebody out there who can help me? 2. Platform Steam (Windows 7, DirectX 11) 3. What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen) Every version of the game 4. Game-mode? Options menu; signing up to / signing in with Racenet 5. What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too. I've tried it every day since buying this game, at least once, so some one hundred times, I guess. Probably way more often, I really don't know. 6. What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue Thousands of different names / passwords / what have you. Nothing worked. 7. What peripherals are you are using (gamepad, wheel make & model etc) Logitech F310 Gamepad attached to a computer with an Intel i5-6400 / 2.70 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, Windows 7 Home Premium. 8. @FRagZilla786 I actually got it solved in the meantime! It seems like the Codies have a very limited viewpoint as far as email addresses are concerned. It seems that "t-online.de" isn't okay, just as "ostendorf.jens" doesn't seem to be okay. Once I picked a new email address (or rather a really old one I haven't used in years) without hyphens or dots at places where the game doesn't expect them, and used this as my login address, it worked without issues. So, yes, I got access to Racenet and the Racenet livery - which actually was all I was interested in. Maybe you have the same problem! -
Before you get me wrong, let me say right at the beginning that I'm not writing this to annoy you, to the contrary! Do you want the guys and girls at Codemasters to read this message? If so, if you really want to discuss all your findings with them (and just so you know, I agree with most of what you wrote), I strongly suggest you take this over to another forum. This here is for technical assistance/bug reports only, and none of what you describe here can be called a bug - it's just the game's mechanics, nothing more, nothing less. And since you crammed it all into one post and didn't use the bug report template (to be found in one of the pinned posts at the top), nobody at Codemasters will even look at this here. As a matter of fact, this post might end up being deleted because of it. Which is something I definitely don''t want! Most of the things you find annoying annoy me, too, so I'd like the Codies to see this, in the hopes that they do something about it!

with developers Fuel Bug with Fuel Assist Activated
ostendorfjens posted a topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
Dear Guys and Girls at Codemasters! First of all, congratulations for having created a truly great game! In my opinion, F1 2020 surpasses its predecessors by quite a large margin. There are a lot of improvements I really like, particularly the "My Team" mode, and the new options for casual drivers (like me) are a gift from the gods. The "DRS Assist" in particular is something I have waited for for a long time! However, there still are quite a few bugs in the system. I ran across a rather annoying one - not a game changer, not a game breaker, but annoying nonetheless! Alright, here goes! 1. A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here. When you let the computer deal with fuel management, i.e. if you use the "Fuel Assist" option (which seems to be selected by default when choosing the "Casual" mode), the computer presets your fuel-mix to "Rich" during most practice programs, with the exception of the "Fuel Management" program, where you get the "Standard" mix. Which isn't much of a problem in most practice programs. However, when you pick the "Race Strategy" program, you are forced to run it with the "Rich" fuel mix (Screenshot 1; this screenshot and the other ones were taken during a new "My Team" career, driving my "Lotus" in Melbourne) - and since the "Fuel Assist" option overrides all your inputs, there's nothing you can do about it. The bottom line is, you burn way more fuel than you would under normal circumstances. After the program is finished, you are told that you exceeded the original estimate by more than 0.6 kilograms of fuel per lap (that's actually quite a good average), so the fuel load you start the race with is set accordingly. This works somewhat okay when only doing short races (i.e. 25% or 50%), but when doing a race at 100% length, you run into a problem: The game insists that you need, for example, 141.92 kilograms of fuel (Screenshot 2 - and yes, I admit that I was a bit exuberant with the loud pedal during this particular practice program; but even when I feathered the throttle, I never managed to achieve less than 130 kilograms of fuel needed.) But the fuel tank will, of course, only hold 110 kilograms. Which in turn means that the game complains that you're under-fueling your car massively. You could, of course, try to correct the fuel load suggested by the game manually prior to the start, but since your numbers during the practice program were way off, all you can do are guesstimates - even when you put in 110 kilograms of fuel, which you will never need under normal circumstances, the game will insist that you'll only be able to cover some 75-80% of the race distance. (Screenshot 3) So in the end, you need to take the full 110 kilograms available to you. Now, during the race, the "Fuel Assist" works fine - while you're told that your car is severely under-fueled, it switches to the "Standard" fuel mix shortly after the start, and you can watch the numbers slowly turning from red to green again. So in a manner of speaking, the problem corrects itself. There is a caveat, however: At the end of the race, you invariably end up with having quite a lot of fuel left, since there was no way for you to determine precisely how much fuel you'd actually need. Under normal circumstances, you could try to get rid of excess fuel through the "Rich" fuel mix, and the "Fuel Assist" does that, but that puts unnecessary strain on the engine, shortening the lifespan of its components. On top of that, you carry a lot of extra weight around with you which you don't need. And in a tight race, you simply don't want that. Despite the fact that your last laps, those where you need to burn excess fuel, will be much faster than usual, you'll lose quite a lot of time in the early stages of the race due to an overweight car. There's a reason why F1 drivers tend to under-fuel their cars. Over-fueling them is something none of them will ever do. At this stage, the "Fuel Assist," and thus the "Casual" mode, is something that should be avoided like the plague, because the system simply doesn't work. As long as the "Rich" mix becomes the new standard during practice programs, you'll always run into that problem at 100% race length. Since I consider myself a casual racer who just likes to race for the fun of it without tinkering with the minute details, and who therefore likes all the assist at our disposal, this is quite annoying to me. So I'd like to ask you to please try and fix this! 2. Platform Steam (Windows 7, DirectX 11) 3. What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen) 1.03 and also 1.05 4. Game-mode? Both My Team and Career Mode, as long as I pick either the "Casual" mode or activate the "Fuel Assist." 5. What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too. I haven't kept count, but I guess I've tried it at least 25 times with a lot of different permutations, meaning different assists activated or deactivated. It all hinges on the "Fuel Assist" or the "Casual" mode being activated. And race length is, of course, a factor, too. It only becomes a real problem during 100% race length, but it also happens when the races are shorter. The problem is not quite as bad at 50% race length and simply doesn't come into play when the races are even shorter - you can over-fuel your car so massively, you're able to run the entire race in "Rich" mode ... but that quickly ruins your engine ... 6. What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue Apart from not using the "Fuel Assist" option or not switching to "Casual" mode, there wasn't much I could have done ... 7. What peripherals are you are using (gamepad, wheel make & model etc) Logitech F310 Gamepad (not that it matters) My computer contains an Intel i5-6400 running at 2.70 GHz (no overclocking), 8 GB RAM, my graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti (again, no overclocking - just a normal, run-of-the-mill computer with no tinkering whatsoever). My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. 8. Any screenshots or video of the issue? If the video is long, please include a timestamp for when the issue appears. See attachments. Again, thanks for giving us this great game, and I hope I get to see this problem fixed in one of the upcoming patches! Yours sincerely Jens "TheCatweazle" Ostendorf -

@BarryBL It certainly does maximise the abilities, and then some! Like I said, it all works fine, there are just those oddities. No that it matters - I just finished my first race with the fuel assist activated, and it worked like a charm! But if there's anything I can do to help you as far as the other topics are concerned, just let me know! -

ostendorfjens replied to ostendorfjens's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
After the latest patch (1.08), I can finally see what the problem is - my email address is stated as being invalid. Which it isn't - it's just a perfectly normal German email address - you can see it in both screenshots in the original post. I've been using it for years and never ran into any problems. So why now? Why does F1 2020 not allow me to use it? Is it because it's German? Do I need a new email address with a different country abbreviation? Is anyone out there able to help me out? -
with developers Fuel Bug with Fuel Assist Activated
ostendorfjens replied to ostendorfjens's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
@BarryBL First of all, thanks a lot to you and your team for getting rid of the original bug through the latest patch! The Race Strategy program finally works as it should! Thanks a ton! However, there still are a few issues you might want to take a look at at your convenience: 1. As soon as you complete any practice program, the fuel mix is set to "Rich" immediately again, which feels counter-intuitive - after all, you're just on your way back into the pits. Not that it matters much, it's just weird. 2. During the Tyre Management program, the fuel mix is still set to "Rich." Again, it doesn't matter all that much, since the automatic brakes are applied so early, with so little force and slowing down your car so massively, it's no problem at all to finish the program with a perfect score. As a matter of fact, you can do the whole program with the loud pedal nailed to the floor and still be able to get into the purple zone with ease. As you can see, none of this is important in any way, shape, or form. But if you happen to have time to spare, you might want to take a look at this. And I'm still waiting for my cookie! -
awaiting information Safety car Glitches (with video) seriously !
ostendorfjens replied to RS Phil's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
Uh, what exactly am I looking at here? Okay, the message that Bottas was ceding position doesn't seem logical, particularly since it only appeared for, like, three seconds, but his penalty suggests that you should really have tried to pass him. If you had and if the game had then told you to relinquish the position again because of an illegal overtake, you'd have known what's up. Since you didn't, there's no way to really determine what went wrong. To be honest, I don't even know what you're complaining about here. (But maybe I didn't get your meaning correctly - I'm still German, English's not my native tongue.) -
AI disqualified in formation lap but not actually disqualified
ostendorfjens replied to Harryvederci's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
Uhm, you do realize that your car ghosted there? This is just messing with the game's mechanics, nothing more, nothing less. This is not something you're supposed to do, so I tend to think the guys and girls who created this game never took things like those into account. Probably because that's not something you'd be doing in real life - this goes so against conventional wisdom! You're supposed to warm up the brakes and tyres, prepare for the start of the race, not slow everybody down to the point that your car is considered to no longer be a part of the race - that's why your car ghosted, that's why the driver behind was able to drive through you. Actually, in real life, behaviour like that during a formation lap would get you disqualified faster than you'd be able to say "Erm." The rules, which I looked up, clearly state that dropping behind by too much is considered an offense which would lead to at least a hefty drive-through penalty. You might even be disqualified outright! And rightly so, I might add, because that's highly unsafe, as someone held up by you might become p***ed off and try to push you off the road, And that is why I'm fairly certain that nobody at Codemasters would consider this a bug. Meaning that I don't think they'll react to this in any way, shape, or form. -
[CONTROLLER] Throttle&Brake %100 or %0
ostendorfjens replied to werquast's topic in Systems and Connectivity TA
@werquast You're welcome! @Lakrits Sorry, my bad! After having read the sentence "and a word I have no idea what it means," I had assumed you wouldn't know about the underlying concepts and was therefore just trying to help you. -
[CONTROLLER] Throttle&Brake %100 or %0
ostendorfjens replied to werquast's topic in Systems and Connectivity TA
Oh, it does, @Lakrits, it can do everything you need, and then some. To help you out a bit: There are, in general, two kinds of inputs, digital and analogue. Digital is what buttons and keys have - they're either pressed or not pressed, either on or off. So digital means it's a binary switch. Analogue, on the other hand, means the values increase or decrease gradually, depending on how much you push or pull it. Think of your regular joystick, your steering wheel, your pedals, or your analogue sticks on your gamepad. Just for clarification. Now, all modern gamepads have two analogue sticks plus a lot of extra buttons. Most of those are digital, but the two lower shoulder buttons on most gamepads are what is called a trigger, meaning it's yet another analogue control. Yes, those things are similar to joysticks or steering wheels, so they can very well be used as, for instance, throttle or brakes. As a matter of fact, most gamepads (I know this from the XBox controller, and it is my understanding that the Playstation controller is very similar) use those in exactly that fashion - right trigger accelerates, left trigger brakes. And since they're analogue, you can increase speed gradually and brake gradually, just like you want it to. Of course, you need to set up your system properly, but there are tons of guides to be found on the internet that can help you there. Bottom line is, you want your steering, your throttle and brakes assigned to analogue controls, to analogue sticks or the aforementioned triggers, and everything else, like changes in viewpoint or setup changes (brake balance, DRS deployment, fuel mix setup) assigned to digital switches, i.e. the remaining buttons. Hope that clarifies the matter. -
Facilities upgraded automatically
ostendorfjens replied to Eduardope's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
@Eduardope You really need to fill out the bug report template, to be found in one of the pinned topics on this forum. Apart from the fact that this topic will otherwise be ignored by the Codies and might very well be deleted because of that, your few, short sentences are so cryptic, I can't make heads or tails of it. For instance, are we talking about the "My Team" or the "Driver" career? Because in the case of the latter, the facilities are upgraded by the team itself, not by you - you don't have any saying in this actually. -
since 1.07 Stuttering with good FPS and high SSD activity
ostendorfjens replied to SwissSkynet's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
There is a guide to be found online telling you how to setup the Nvidia drivers correctly. There's one topic in this forum where this is mentioned. I don't remember exactly where I found it, so I'm afraid you need to look for it. Bottom line is, when I set the drivers to optimum performance instead of optimum quality, the game ran much smoother. My system's not all that good, yet I can run the game with high quality and at 1920x1080. The frame rate is stable at more than 60 fps. (68, if I remember correctly.) And no stuttering worth mentioning. -

ostendorfjens replied to SwissSkynet's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
Since you're using Windows 10, I presume you're playing the DirectX 12 version. Try switching to the DirectX 11 version. It's way more stable and purportedly has better performance as well. -
[CONTROLLER] Throttle&Brake %100 or %0
ostendorfjens replied to werquast's topic in Systems and Connectivity TA
You're welcome! Yeah, these things are a bit iffy. You cannot imagine how long it took me to come up with a setup I was really content with. Like I said, it's a game of trial and error. My personal setup, just in case you're wondering, is that I use the right analogue stick of my gamepad for steering and the left one for throttle and brakes. I've played this way for decades, when gamepads didn't even have analogue sticks - this is why I used two analogue joysticks back then. (That was back in the 90s - yes, I'm that old!) My personal settings are very simple: Deadzone at 0, Linearity at 50, Saturation at 0. And that goes for steering as well as throttle and brakes. Works for me, while other people might find it uncomfortable to play with. -
Driver Career Mode Race Fuel Bug
ostendorfjens replied to tallboy7648's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
The problems you're having are due to the fact that the computer pre-selects the "Rich" fuel mix during the Race Strategy practice program, so you use up way more fuel than you actually need, which means all numbers are way off. The good news is, I already told the guys and girls at Codemasters of this bug, and they're currently working on a solution. Should actually have been fixed by the last patch, but they obviously ran into problems, so we have to wait a little bit longer. But they're hard at work debugging it.- 1 reply

[CONTROLLER] Throttle&Brake %100 or %0
ostendorfjens replied to werquast's topic in Systems and Connectivity TA
@werquast In the "Options" menu, pick "Settings," then "Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback." Pick your control scheme (the checkmarked one for your controller), next pick "Edit," then select the "Calibration" index. For steering, throttle, and brakes, you get three options each. We have "Deadzone," which determines how much you need to move the stick until it registers with the game. Then we have "Saturation," which tells you how much you need to move the stick until the game considers it full steering. You usually don't want to tamper with these options all that much (maybe give it a bit of deadzone, if you have nervous fingers or your gamepad is ultra sensitive). The option you're looking for is "Linearity." This really translates the movements of the sticks to steering inputs. Right now, it probably reads "0." This makes the controls very sensitive to even the slightest movements. If you increase this, the steering becomes less sensitive in the beginning, but the more you tilt the stick, the stronger your steering will be. Raise it to 50 for a very basic setup, then start experimenting with it until you reach a setting that feels good to you. This is pretty much a game of trial and error, so give it a few tries. You need to feel comfortable with it, and suggestions by other people often don't fit your own style. I'd start with "Deadzone" at 5, "Lineatity" at 50, and "Saturation" at 0. That's more or less the setup I'm playing with. Start with this and then change it until you feel good about how the car feels. Let me know if you need more pointers! -
AI disqualified in formation lap but not actually disqualified
ostendorfjens replied to Harryvederci's topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
@Harryvederci First of all, why on Earth are you overtaking during the formation lap? In real life, this would lead to a sure-fire DQ for you, not the drivers you take out of the race. (And rightly so, I might add. Behaviour like that will cost you the super-licence with certainty.) Second, have you consulted the "Race Director" during the formation lap to confirm the other drivers have really been disqualified? -
Doesn't matter actually. Wheels also contain micro switches, so the problem's pretty much the same. As a matter of fact, wheels are much more complicated than gamepads from a technical point of view, so there are more things that can get worn or broken.
-
@BenB06 Without knowing what kind of controller you're using and how old it is, I'm fairly certain this error is due to a worn controller. I've gone through a heck of a lot of controllers over the years due to problems similar to the one you're describing here, and in most cases, the cause were worn out micro switches. Particularly if they're constantly used (and abused), the lifespan of a micro switch can be severely limited. A friend of mine, who's just as much into computer games as I am, has made it a habit of replacing all his controllers every three years at least for that very reason. Bottom line is, maybe you should consider buying a new controller, because this doesn't sound like a bug, if I'm honest.

1. A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here. After the qualifying session, Jeff, the race engineer, sends you a mail containing some pep talk to motivate you to give it your very best shot in the upcoming race. While I think this is a nice touch, there's something that makes me scratch my head. In one of those mails, he urges you to deal a decisive defeat to your teammate. And he even offers you an incentive: If you manage to beat them by more than a minute, there's a cookie in it for you. Now, my teammate at the time was Tatiana Calderón who, at the start of a new My Team career at least, is far from being the best driver. So defeating her by a country mile is reasonably easy. But even if you manage to do so, which I did, there was no cookie for me from Jeff. And why is it even a cookie? Last year, Jeff promised me a pizza, should I manage to lap the entire field. Not that I ever received one, but that's beside the point. I want my cookie! 2. Platform Steam (Windows 7, DirectX 11) 3. What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen) Every version of the game 4. Game-mode? My Team career, just before some of the races. Probably even in the normal driver career, but I haven't checked that one. 5. What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too. Let's see ... I think I came across the mail five times so far. And still no cookie! 6. What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue Is there anything I can do? 8. Any screenshots or video of the issue? If the video is long, please include a timestamp for when the issue appears. Do I really need to add a screenshot? You probably know which email I'm referring to. "La plus perdue de toutes les journées est celle où l'on n'a pas ri."
