I did a 1:18.100 in qualifying at Hungary (Mercedes GP) on soft tyres only to average 1:23-1:24 lap times in the first stint of the race. Top 4-5 drivers were 1-2 sec faster. 2nd stint is OK then.

So let's assume there's really a performance update and Ferrari will be #4 or #5 in the power ranking. Will this update apply to a running league as well? We're in the middle of a season and my friend is running a Ferrari. Since I got my ass whooped in pretty much every race, it would be awesome if he suddenly loses 1-1.5 sec per lap.

Appreciate your help. Thanks! I assume the best way is to record the video with my mobile phone and upload it to the board here!?

Apex speeds and straights. It sometimes feels like the car is automatically slowing down if the AI is close to me in the slow corner. But I probably just suck at this game so don't put too much thought into it.
-
Even if my tyre temperatures are a little too low at the start, the temps should be in the perfect window after a few turns. The AI is passing me left and right the first 4-5 laps.
-
I think the AI is unrealistically fast in the first 4-5 laps (especially in the first lap!) - even if you're running on "fast" fuel mode and with ERS on. Manual starts are too difficult in my opinion - especially if the AI magically always get it right.

Had a league race on Sunday in Austria. I was struggling in the first three races in the calender (customized) and was looking for points. The race was progessing nicely (P3) until I went to the pit. The pit exit in Austria is fast so I was on full throttle but all of a sudden the car was automatically downshiftig to first gear and breaking heavily. The result was wheelspin and a destroyed nose. My race was completely destroyed. In the replay I saw a broken down car standing on the opposite side of the track and yellow flags. Still, this sucked big time and it wasn't funny.

My race is 50% all assists off. I do warmup lap. My impression is the AI lap times (especially in online leagues) are scripted, because their lap times are very stable of the race. They are maybe 1-1.5 sec faster at the end of the race compared to the beginning, while it's 3-4 sec for me.

Sounds reasonable but maybe you can just handle the heavier car better. As I said, I'm pretty fast in the qualifying but I'm struggling with a heavy car early in the race. My races usually look like this: I qualify on P7. I loose 2-3 positions in the first lap and have to fight hard to maintain P10 for a couple of rounds. The more fuel I burn and the more weight I lose, I get faster and faster and win back some positions in the second half of the race.

I just started a MyTeam career, but isn't it possible to just switch it off? I'm asking because I'm also playing a league online with my cousin and we like to switch off the possibility of rain. I couldn't find this option yesterday. I think the traction / grip of the AI in the rain is completely unrealistic.

I found the race AI is much faster than the quali AI. Or maybe I'm just good for one lap and suck in the race.

F1® 2020 - Tips, Guides & Tutorials (+ share your own)
SixtoRodriguez replied to PJTierney's topic in F1 Chat
I struggled a lot with manual starts in the beginning (and to some extend still do!). I always tried to accelerate slowly to get into that perfect range. However, I found the other way around is more effective: Accelerate up to the limiter and then slowly reduce the throttle input until it comes down again. -
Car looks fantastic. I love the contrast of the dark camouflage and neon yellow.

I was looking for a thread about this subject, but I couldn't find one. I wonder if there's any quantification of the difference in difficulty level. My impression is that each car will go about 0.5 sec faster if you increase the difficulty level by 10 points. Do you agree? I started a career in the McL at 50 and I'm competing with the top 3 in every race. I don't like that my team mate is always much slower. Therefore, I like to re-start in the Mercedes. I think the Mercedes is approx. 1.5 sec faster than the McL so I guess I should run 80 or 90 points?
-
Thanks. That may not be a bad thing since this may slow down the development a bit. I increase the AI difficulty by 1 point for every race.
-
Thanks! I already watched all your guides on YT. You're basically my engineer since I use your setups on every track. (Haha!) By the way, do you know if the car performance is the same in online league and GP mode? I always practice in GP mode for league races only to find out I can't go the same pace. I'm about 2 sec slower in the race. Seems like I'm the only one having this issue.
-
Still nobody here who can answer this question? I just started a career in the MyTeam mode and I decided to have 10 races per season. However, I'd like to change the race selection every season. Really hope to get an answer on this subject, because I would be extremely disappointed if I run all 10 races only to find out it is NOT possible to change the selection in between the seasons.

Car performance GP mode vs. league (online)
SixtoRodriguez posted a topic in Gameplay Issues and Bugs TA
I'm running an online league with my cousin and I usually practicing in the GP mode. I found I can go around 2 sec faster in the races in GP mode even though the settings are totally the same. I play with all assists off. For example: First stint on hard tyres in Zandvoort in a McLaren => 1.18-1.19 the first ten laps in the GP mode and 1.20-1.21 in the online league. In average about 2 sec slower per lap. It also doesn't feel fluent online. It feels like the brakes are reacting too late and there's less grip. This happend in Vietnam as well but even more extreme (the difference was 4-5 sec). It's really frustrating and I don't have any idea what's happening. -
Great post. A lot of helpful information. Sometimes you can't see the forrest because of all the trees.
-
My meaning is the outermost setting option on the right respectively left.
-
Very interesting. Thanks! So if I understand you correctly, aggressive camber (max. right) and toe (max. left) settings must be compensated with low tyre pressure otherwise there's a risk of overheating the tyres. Conservative camber and toe settings allow you to run with higher tyre pressure. Correct?
-
We drove China this weekend. I struggled with overheating M and S tyres in training so I lowered the pressure again (third lowest setting possible). This helped me a lot and I was able to basically run the same lap times in the race as in training. I now think my tyres were simply overheating in Hanoi despite the low pressure. I'm surprised you say the pressure is too low for Hanoi. I always read low pressure is the way to go in F1 2020. My overall impression is the setup in F1 2020 is much more fragile / essential than ever before. By the way, I used PJ's setup in China and it worked great for me.

This is the setup I used for the race: Team: Mc Laren Lap Time: 1:40.100 (Q3) / ~ 1:51 on soft tyres with fuel for 28 laps in the race Race Mode: League race 50% Weather: Dry Controller Type: Thrustmaster T300 Aerodynamics Front Wing Aero: 5 Rear Wing Aero: 8 Transmission Differential Adjustment On Throttle: 50% Differential Adjustment Off throttle: 60% Suspension Geometry Front Camber: -2.50 Rear Camber: -1.00 Front Toe: 0.05 Rear Toe: 0.20 Suspension Font Suspension: 1 Rear Suspension: 8 Front Anti-Roll Bar: 3 Rear Anti-Roll Bar: 8 Front Ride Height: 2 Rear Ride Height: 3 Brakes Brake Pressure: 90% Front Brake Bias: 54% Tyres Front Right Tyre Pressure: 21.0psi Front Left Tyre Pressure: 21.0psi Rear Right Pressure: 19.5psi Rear Left Tyre Pressure: 19.5psi I struggled big time in the third sector. Tyres were overheating all the time. This wasn't the case in training with same load (fuel). I was going 3-4 sec faster. I have no explanation for this.

It's frustrating. I'm running an online league with my friend. We're just two people. I don't know if it's a bug or what. My qualifying time in Hanoi is 1:40. In training I do 1:45 on soft tires with fuel for 28 laps (50% distance). In the race, however, my lap times are 1:51 or 1:52 and I simply can't go faster. It was the same in Australia and Bahrain. The gap between training and race was 3-4 sec per lap even though the fuel load was the same. This is also why I started this thread. If it's no bug, I'm doing something badly wrong. Any idea? PS: My friend doesn't have this issue. His lap times are similar to what he does in training.
