  1. I would rather be in McLaren with Ron Dennis and his team than Ferrari who don't seem to be able to make any form of improvement.
so would I but this is the question Alonso has to ask himself I think if he wants a real shot of at least 1 more title before he retires that's his best option because I don't think he'll get it hanging around at Ferrari right now. The only other possible option would be maybe Lotus but he'd need to bring some money to the table in order to make it happen though and take Maldonado's seat. The one thing in his favour here is he knows the people there given it's still moer or less his former Renault team. I think the move back to McLaren is the more likely to happen it's just a question of whether he'd be comfortable making that move

  2. I can't see Ferrari providing a championship winning car for the next 2 years (2015, 2016), and isn't that when Alonso's contract is up at Ferrari? I think Mercedes will win again next season to be honest, but with close competition from Red Bull.

So where can Alonso go after that? Mercedes I think will stay the same with Hamilton and Rosberg for a few years, and I can't really see Vettel and Ricciardo leaving Red Bull either. McLaren, maybe they'll be competitive again by then, who knows.

But I think if Alonso wants another championship he'll have to go somewhere else. I think McLaren could be his best bet.
I agree with that too the only question would be whether Alonso could put his past disagreements with them behind him because if he can't then it won't look good for him

  3. The problem with DTM, V8 Supercars and a lot of real life championships are, they are not cheap to license which is why Codemaster put Indycar as Formula A instead of Indy 500.

Raceroom paid a lot for DTM license which is why they charge $40 for 3 cars and a handful of tracks.Even Forza 5 renamed their M3 DTM into M3 Race Car.

As much as I want more real life championship, I doubt its gonna happen often.
As I said that's why I'm on the fence really I'd love to see it but I wouldn't want CM to bankrupt themselves to get it especially as they're already shelling a lot out to get the F1 license you can justify F1 as it's the pinnacle motorsport. I don' t want to belittle the other racing disciplines as every single discipline is great in it's own way but they're not at the same level as F1 and I doubt any of them will ever be.

  4. Heads up: Game UK have just dropped the price of the Black Edition for Xbox 360 and PS3 by £5 to £34.99. Existing preorders will only be charged the cheaper price, of course.
Heads Up . . . I pre-ordered at Game UK some weeks ago for £34.99 [Black Edition] and cancelled a couple of days ago. I  see that the PC version is now £29.99.

Pre-ordered on Steam for £26.99 [£29.99 - £3 for owning Grid 2] . . .but will it be the "Black" edition ? . . thing is, the "Black" edition isn't available on Steam for pre-order ?

What do we do now Cap'n? :p
I thought Loore might have jumped in to clarify this "Black" edition mystery . .

The pre-order at Game UK is the Black edition, the pre-order at Amazon seems to be a standard edition, the pre-order at Steam doesn't say, but also doesn't give the choice, Loore is giving Rastus a free copy because of his generosity in giving Miatakias a load of stuff to build a new gaming computer, but he only assumes it will be the Black edition . . . So what is the deal with Steam ???
    ~O)

well @Loore is busy this week at E3 so at the moment so we can't really expect him to reply just yet. I've gone with the standard edition because things like they have in the Black edition are only useful if you play online really which I don't. I think there's enough content though in the standard edition anyway to keep me busy for ages as I'm really looking forward to working through the career mode on this game.

Truth be told, I'm not that bothered which version as apart from one free car I use my own skins on the cars so don't need what is in the package . . .
    ~O)
same here I'm mostly interested in the career mode really and the idea of working my way up through each discipline and taking part in the various different championships would be good to have like a mini Indy 500 too with the Indycars and Indianapolis in there. Would be surprised if there isn't a Indy 500 type race in the career mode somewhere anyway. Given both are part of the game at least.

Race Day in the GRID(2008) single play mode includes a 1:1 scaled time 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 hour race takes 24 hrs), but no co-drivers, pit stops or anything else - just 24 hours of straight racing.  Push ESC for a substantial break and if you're not back in the saddle in a few minutes the race quits with a DNF (never actually timed it myself).  However, I can imagine that 2 or 3 committed (certifiable) Gridders could actually organize a driving schedule with drivers being relieved on the fly in the middle of the pit straight.  Never heard of anyone actually doing it though.

That race had many other time scale versions as well.

I never progressed far enouh to ggive this a go but yeah I heard about it. I couldn't see myself doing a full 24 hours though. I struggle to just about do the 100% F1 races when I do them on my F1 games as normally I stick at 25% when in career mode
I also stick at 25%, but is more because I usually make about 2-3 race-ruining mistakes which I rewind withing that 25%. I would never be able to finish a 50% race in one piece since flashbacks in F1 are limited to 4. Glad the flashbacks in GAS are unlimited :)

I think in 2013 they regenerate after a while if you can avoid using them but then I struggle full stop on that game just about to start my last season on my latest 2012 career though won 2 drivers titles and 1 constructors hoping to sign off by taking at least my 3rd drivers title. Racing for Ferrari in that final season so I'm hopeful.

Like you I tend to screw up at least once in a race quite often it's at the start when trying to get up to speed  quite often I use restart race in those instances though once I'm through the first lap though I stick with the flashbacks. Will probably have flashbacks on but I'll have them set too a limited level on Autosport as I wouldn't want to become too dependant on them. Quite often I find the cars get a little tail happy probably because I'm pushing too hard and that's when I tend to use them

  7. I get the feeling F1 2014 will be CM's first venture onto next gen but I think they're keeping quiet about it because they want to give Autosport it's time in the spotlight first especially given it's their next game being released. Plus the fact that CM like to wait till a couple of months before release before announce anything means we shouldn't give up hope yet. I think we'llhear something about 2014 at some stage in July or at the latest early August given the game generally has a release date around the same time as the Fifa's

  9. Wow... Tuner seems to be very popular.. LoL. I would love a Full-on ALMS Series game or Continental Tire Series Game. I love touring cars American, Aussey, and European.
I think Tuner's more of a rally driver type of discipline really given it's all about drifting and time attack I probably could do time attack OK as that's similar to doing a qualifying lap in F1 in a sense but I suck at drifting I just can't seem to hold the car going sideways without spinning out most of the time whenever I've done those events on other games I'll be giving it a go just as I will all the disciplines but I don't expect to be doing a great deal in that discipline
I expect I'll be hopping over to the tuner discipline quite often, but I wouldn't want to start there. Since the tuner class is all about precision driving (car control in drift, steady racing lines in time attack, etc.) I would want to have a decent handle on the game before I even think about tackling the tuner discipline. Same with endurance, I want to get to grips with the physics engine first, then make the leap to tire management. This is also why I've chosen touring as my starting point. A little rubbing never hurt anyone in touring cars. :D
yeah I agree that's why I chose to start there as well I was always planning to start either in the touring or open wheel categories as those are the areas I'm most familiar with till I had a handle of the game. I'm not that familiar with Endurance racing but I know of it of course and racing at night intrigues me. I know pretty much all the tracks aside from this Autosport raceway they've added but aside from Yas Marina I've never driven any of them at night. I'll be giving everything a go even the street disciplines too but street and Tuner aren't for me as much fun as the track based disciplines I like them and I still do find them fun don't get me wrong. I'm just more of a fan of getting out there and racing in track based disciplines

  10. tbh I'm on the fence on this one really as I would love to see real life championships but to get them though it could cost a lot of money and can they guarantee the game will sell enough to justify it? At least with the way they do Grid they've given us a mix of different racing styles mixed in with a few interesting challenges along the way. I think the way they've done it by keeping things as general as possible will help sell more. I think this will also encourage more people to give this game a go further down the road

  11. Not doubting their skills :) but you can clearly see the player is braking far too late on some of the corners but still keeping up with the AI.
well unlike the F1 games this game doesn't have tyre degredation unless you're racing in Endurance so you can get away I guess with a bit of late braking but as I said in my previous post everything's still being tweaked and it's not the final build so until the game does come out and is in our hands we won't know 100%

Please codemasters look at this thread for future reference. Touring / Open Wheel / Endurance have all the votes and so far Tuner / Street have none. Next time more Touring / Open Wheel / Endurance cars and less Tuner / Street cars please
Well street has 7 now :D I'm looking forward to all the modes except drift events, so glad that we can choose to not play any modes we don't like this time round unlike Grid 2.
Yeah I think that's one of the plus points of this game in that we can pick and choose our events I don't like drifting either although I may be OK at time attack I'll give tuner a go but I doubt I'll do any more than maybe a couple of seasons just to say I've given it a go. Openwheel is probably my strongest discipline as the F1 games I tend to play most whenever I'm in a racing mood and I win most in those I've done a fair bit of Touring cars in the TOCA series and won there in some events not my strongest discipline but a fun one. I've done some Endurance racing in NFS Shift but not too much night racing so I'm intrigued as to how well I'll go here. I think the fact there is practice and qualifying will help people get to grips with the various disciplines as well

  13. Here's a vid of the Open wheelers going round San Francisco

Hmm, is there another harder difficulty level after Very Hard, because the way the player was going too fast into some of the corners and locking up yet they still managed to keep up with the AI lead car is a little worrying?
not that I'm aware of Very Hard is the hardest setting I think but @Loore has said that everything is still being tweaked though including the AI and will be right up until release I believe having said that though these sim racing guys are pretty good at their racing games at least based on the video's I've seen them do anyway

  14. I would like to see An AI teammate/Co-Driver for Endurance Races with Pitstops and Driver Changes. 12 hour races. Would be awesome like GT was on PC. You can sim a whole hour and condense the race down to fit your time needs.
While it could work I think having 12 hour races would still be a bit long
Not actual 12 hr races, but like they did in original Grid but with adjustable length, Pitting and Driver Changes. Would be pretty awesome way to do Endurance races.
well I think given the amount of content that's already in the game I doubt too many will complain about that too much. I know I certainly won't anyway as I think it's got more than enough content to keep me busy on it for a good long while and as @Loore said the career mode is quite lengthy this time unlike Grid 2

ITV's commentary is awful. Motson is an annoying old man who has no clue what is going on half the time, so yeah the Murray Walker comparison is pretty apt.

BBC do have some good commentators though, and all their analysts are better than anything ITV have (except Lee Dixon). Having to suffer through Andy Townsend proving he has no idea about football every night is going to make this World Cup harder to watch. I might stream some US coverage, even that is better than what ITV produces.
Guess that's what happens when you play for Aston Villa :p
Sent to hell is what you get when you play for Villa.

Mind you, Aston is worse than hell.
Had a feeling you might say that :p

  17. I don't see why people still think Kimi's one of the best on the current grid. Dude hasn't been spectacular ever since 2006 and I don't want to know what the likes of Hamilton or Alonso would have been able to get out of the Lotus in 2012 and 2013.

Alonso/Raikkonen is by far not the strongest pairing in F1 right now, that should be clear. Hell, I'd rate Vettel/Ricciardo higher than the Ferrari boys (mainly due to Kimi).

    Ham/Ros on top imo.
That's more down to the cars than the actual drivers though I think at the moment

  18. Alonso I feel has fallen into the trap that Hamilton avoided. Staying in a well regarded team like Ferrari despite the fact they have been on an obvious decline since 2011. Hamilton bailed from McLaren who were doing the same, took the gamble and just look where he is now. A genuine shot at the title with a great team AND great car.
It almost feels like Alonso fell into the trap in 2008 when he rejoined Renault. He's still got a few good years left in him, I can't help but think though he's gonna have to take a gamble and leave Ferrari to have another chance at a 3rd WDC.
I don't want him to leave Ferrari, I'd love for them to find race winning competitiveness again, but after 4 and a bit seasons with them not having a car that's really a proper frontrunner it's looking kinda grim.
Yeah he just needs some kind of opening somewhere really in one of the bigger teams I'm pretty sure Mercedes will stick with what they've got for now so obviously that's a no. The only potential move he could make is going back to McLaren but I'm not sure he'd be open to that really given their history. I think although McLaren have slumped recently I think they could get back up to the front now that Ron Dennis has reasserted his authority on the team Alonso will probably still need to wait a couple of years though before McLaren could deliver a car he needs though. Right now I don't think Ferrari know what direction they want to go in and I think that's half their problem. They've got probably the 2 fastest drivers on the grid imo yet they haven't given them the tools they need to do the job.
