Thanks for the previews - nice to see more gameplay.

    Couple of comments I have:
         - contact sounds can really get annoying (to me). I think it was from one of the touring cars video but you could hear contact sounds (like a big Boom or pawf or whatever) from everywhere....front....back.....Boom, boom, boom. Seemed a bit too much for me. Maybe just to hear your own contacts would be enough, or maybe much toned down levels.
         - damage looks very forgiving to me, especially the open wheelers. If I compare it to Grid 1 (not saying that Grid 1 is a bentchmark for that tho), it seems that you can crash (or get heavy contacts) many times with no particular damage. If you combine that with 5 flashbacks, I'm not sure this is calling for considerate racing.....
I think in the vid you were talking about I think it was set to visual only if that's the case then it was turned down to minmum levels so I wouldn't panic just yet

@Loore Do the street circuits appear much in the Touring, Open Wheel and Endurance sections much? Or do those circuits just appear in the Street category?
Street tracks do move across discipline, you can race it with Open Wheel for example. Generally Touring and Endurance are more circuit based though, as you can imagine.

I'm sure that'll spice the action up a bit then again I'm sure. :D As long as thje street tracks don't become to intrusive then I think that's OK as I think the disciplines should stick to what is largely their type of venue. I think we'd only really want them appearing every now and then

P.S i wont be adding that Andrew Stevens to my friends list anytime soon... hes a ramming S**T lmao
    =))
I agree he is somewhat aggressive isn't he.  I was watching a vid of NFS Shift 1 of somebody driving like that last night as well they won the race but were a little overaggressive while doing it and it almost cost them. Personally although I'm quite a slow driver which is why I play on the lower level I am quite precise in that I generally can follow the racing line without spinning out too often Although I do recognise that when racing those cars you are going to need to need to do a bit of bumping and grinding to get through the races as the pro's do touch a few times in a race too so an elbows out approach I think will sometimes be needed but he did take it a touch too far I think.

We're talking Open Wheel next week, I think it's a discipline that'll take a lot of people by surprise. I'm a Touring fan at heart but even I find myself wanting to jump into the open wheelers. Open Wheel on Mont Tremblant is superb fun :)
yeah open wheel is probably  my main discipline  with touring and Endurance my secondary ones although having said that I'm thinking as a starter I'll probably open my account with the touring cars but I got to say I'm really looking forward to this

Today I tried the first Grid for the first time. I liked the AI, but not the handling. Not one bit to be honest. I somewhat enjoyed the first couple of American races, sliding around the streets about with real American Muscle, but later on, with the Lamborghini race around Washington, really annoyed me. I have so little control over the car, even though I (eventually) turned on all assists (except for the braking assist, but that would be awful). I keep sliding through the corners and lose control the second I even look at the grass (slightly exaggerated, but you get the point.)

Then I tought, 'well, maybe the touring in Europe is more up my alley', but again, I just barely managed to get the Porsche across the line.

My only other real experiences with racing games were the Shift games (loved the first, the second was alright) and F1 2012 and 2013. I know racecars don't handle like F1 cars, but in those F1 games I had much more control over the cars. How will this be in GAS? Sliding around corners like the first Grid, or a bit more controlled and 'professional' like the F1 games?

I think that's something I'd like to know too. If it handles like the Shift games then I think we'll all be OK as I like and play those too in fact I'm playing them in practice for this. I think Shift would be a better benchmark given F1 has a more late breaker style to it as you can brake quite late in F1 as I use that tactic a fair bit to make up places myself. you can't really use this method quite so much in the other disciplines as those cars have a much different handling style. You can still outbrake people but you do need to brake earlier obviously in a touring car than with an F1 car.

I struggled with the first Grid as well. Grid 2 they did Ok with difficulty wise I think even if it was a little arcadey and the career mode was a little too short but taking that out the equation it was still for the most part a good fun game. I know that in terms of career structure and handling it's leaning more back Grid 1's way.

@loore can you shed any further light on this?

Just heard from the team and they've confirmed that AI difficulty has had a few tweaks since the preview build (which is where all the videos are coming from). The team have spent a lot of late hours working on the AI, one of the difficulties this time around is because of how organic they are, in terms of their behaviour on the track.

The AI is now super-competitive on very hard, and harder across the board, with performance in line with our benchmark times - good luck :)

We talk a little about the work that goes into the AI over on the blog.

    @Loore

Hope it's not so hard that those using assists can't keep up though I had enough trouble with that on Grid 1. How is it looking at the other end of the Ai spectrum on Easy/Very easy as that's the levels I generally play on. and with the way that F1 2013's AI is in comparison to the assists in that game I think my concerns are warranted

You should be fine :) The game provides a nice balance throughout all the difficulty settings and as you mentioned, there's assists there for those that want to use them.
Thanks Loore just wanted to make sure that us slower guys aren't forgotten about is all like we were with F1 2013 as the the Amateur Level's a bit of a mess in that game whereas it was fine in the earlier one's because the assists just don't work at the same pace as Amateur on that game

Apparently McLaren might sign Grosjean next season if Button retires and they can't get Alonso. REALLY?
Hope Button doesn't retire. He's certainly holding his own against Magnusson atm considering K Mag is supposed to be the next best thing.
I agree I think if Button wants them enough I'd say he's got at least 2 or 3 more good seasons left in him at this level before that but that's if he wants them though. I know he's one of the oldest in the field so is probably next in line to retire but I think he's got a little more time yet

yeah that's why I went with Amazon because I wanted a disc version as well. I have started buying games on download but this games of the kind I think I'd want to keep based on what I've seen and heard anyway

  10. Good grief. EA are being nice and giving BF3 out for free on origin! :O

    https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/free-games/on-the-house
they did that with dead space 1 a few weeks ago I downloaded but couldn't get into it the controls were  too awkward shame really as I may have gone in and bought 2 and 3 if I had got on with it OK

The only issue I have with Grid 1 is the AI. In some tracks (one of Long Beach tracks with fast cars, mostly), they can't take turns without ramming everybody around them.

yeah I think that was mostly the problem for me too I could take and handle the tracks just fine for the most part it was the AI's general speed that was the problem because even on easy they were leaving me behind in their tyre smoke it's not really the cars or handling I had issues with it was the AI.

Grid 2's AI for me was much better but the career was nowhere near as good as what 1 is as I never completed 1 and was always a bit short for my liking. It was still good fun don't get me wrong I was just expecting something a bit bigger especially given how long it was between 1 and 2.

Autosport sounds a lot better though as it seems to have a mix of what for me are the best bits of both 1 and 2 Grid 2's excellent graphics and Grid 1's career and handling structures that and the few new extra assists they've put in as well should allow me to play exactly the way I want.

I actually like they have gone more realistic with the sense of speed. That might mean handling getting little bit more serious than in the first Grid, and It actually feels that way while watching those last HQ videos
yeah it does  I've got to say looks like they've done a fantastic job with Yas Marina again looks awesome at night when watching F1 an it looks like they've recaptured that again for the Endurance love racing that track whoever put the Abu Dhabi track together deserves a pat on the back it looks awesome. I just hope my driving skills measure up would have had my team mate on the attack a bit moer in that vid but only because I'd have wanted a 1-2 :p

It depends on the formation(s) you are using really. If I knew I was only ever going to play a 4-2-3-1 I'd go:

(If you were sticking to 24 mine is. Ideally another Fullback, Centre back and striker would be nice, so 27 would be great)

    3 Keepers
    3 Fullbacks
    4 Centre backs
    4 Defensive Midfielders
    5 CAMs
    2 Wingers
    3 Strikers

The 4xCDM's could always change to 5 centre backs or 3 wingers, I would just want enough cover. A utility player in there is always nice, someone like Phil Jones who can play like 3 or 4 positions. Since I''d use a lone striker, I'd risk 3 so that I could have more creative midfielders (I'd need 1 or 3 depending on the 4-2-3-1 I'd play, Wider with wingers or tighter with CAMs), if worse comes to worse and all 3 get injured, shove a winger up front and see what they can do.

Yeah I agree I generaly play 4-4-2 on Fifa and FM games and generally I like to have a primary and a backup for every position so normally I'd have

    2/3 goalkeepers

2 right backs and 2 left backs

    4 central defenders

2 right midfield and 2 left midfield

    4 central midfielders

    4 strikers

that way you're covered if you wish to change formation or go with something moer flexible also this way you're covered if your team suffers a few injuries. :)

I know it's highly unlikely to happen on consoles, but what I'd really like to see is every track from every F1 season in 1 game.

I doubt that's even possible even on PC

I'm pretty sure one can find most if not all F1 tracks on rFactor.
not from every F1 season there's been I don't think  because most of them probably don't exist any more or if they do they are in different guises  now after all you are talking about including every track since 1950 when the sport started. I don't think it could be done or more importantly would be.

  15. I think out of the modern day racers F1 2010 is probably the one that I play most that and maybe Dirt 2 although I don't have Dirt 2 installed at the moment on my PC. On  the touring car side Shift is probably the one I go for because it has mostly proper race tracks and I feel like I'm in a race as the AI doesn't take off like a rocket leaving me spinning my wheels but is fast enough to keep me under pressure if I make a mistake so is a good balance. With Grid 1 I never felt this was the case as I did feel I was struggling to keep up with the AI most of the time. In fact I was pretty much flat out just trying to keep up.

Has anyone played a tennis game before? I downloaded yesterday the Virtua Tennis 4 demo and I liked the whole World Tour mode (But a few game days before the first official Open match the demo ended)   :-L
Yeah , but I prefer Top Spin to Virtua Tennis tbh. Haven't played either in a while though.
I agree haven't played either for a while either but then I hsaven't been using my PS3 much at all lately aside for giving the World cup game a quick once over. it's all wired up I've just not used as I spend most of my time on PC
