I'm pretty sure it's actually a bug. The rules state

There is a free choice because while Pirelli is selecting two sets of tyres for a race, there are still another 10 available for a team/driver to go as aggressive or as conservative as they wish.

Even if Pirelli nominates two different compounds for its mandatory race sets, teams still have a completely free choice from the three nominated compounds for their other tyres.

    • The two mandatory sets nominated by Pirelli cannot be given back during practice and must be available for usein the race. At least one of these two sets must be used during the race - but the teams can decide which one.

yeah as I said I think it's a bug as well

  2. So I just got disqualified from Russia on career mode for apparently not using 2 tyre compounds, despite going from softs to super softs. Most of the AI went super soft to softs, none of them were disqualified, and even my team mate ran the same strategy I did and wasn't disqualified. **** is this bullshit?

yeah I've heard that been a couple of complaints about that on the forum hasn't happened to me though but then generally I've gone with one of the 2 main strategies modified them a little by changing the lap I want to pit  but other than that I've left them alone maybe there's a bug where if you change one of the compounds it might DQ you but I'm not 100% sure

It was obviously going to be the same as BF4, same engine and team. All they have to do is change the look and job done, little effort with a solid base= profit. COD has been doing this very successfully for years.

yeah I'm not really that fired up by Battlefield. I'm tempted by the new Titanfall 2 game given it has a single player campaign this time But aside from the new Fifa with this Journey story thing they've put in and the new Mass Effect that's about all I'm interested in atm.

No work until Monday :D  time to play F1 for hours and hours even though my body is screaming no more. Already I have nearly played 16 longer than 15, pretty much  every race has been exciting.

Indeed that's what I would like to do as well but my foot problems have prevented that so far but it is on the mend so it shouldn't be too much longer maybe another day or 2 as the meds I've been taking are really doing their job now.

I've decided that the best game I've bought this year is Tabletop Simulator. Had so much fun with it the past couple of weeks with friends I can't think of any other games that have come close tbh.

I've gotten big into board games this year, play a couple of times a week with my brother and friends, so being able to continue this hobby at home with friends around the world has been great. The DLC games are amazing quality, and the Steam Workshop is full of high quality versions of board games that I've wanted to play but not wanted to buy.

Once the weather is cooler I'll have to try out the Vive support.

Yeah same with me in a sense with RPG games as I've been playing a lot of RPG games in the past couple of years or so. In fact was planning on giving the Witcher series a proper go eventually but will likely wait until my foot is better and I can play without distractions before doing so though. Because I know that with RPG's and if I get distracted I'll forget where I'm at and I find that never a good thing when playing an RPG. My foot is better than it was but still isn't healed yet and I need to see the doc again I think to get more medication for it.

So I just weighed myself,  since F1 16 came out I have lost 4 lbs, all from using my wheel, and people say gaming is bad for you. Its the only type of exercise I can do without hurting myself too much.

Same with me really lately. Just got my first everrac win at Baku so hopefully it's the first of many. Rosberg did push me all the way though so it was quite the challenge.

I suck at Baku. On Legend difficulty I'm at the back, normally I'm top 5. Its so annoying, I love the track,  I feel like I know it well now and feel like I'm pushing, only to be miles slower than I should be going. No matter what I change my setup to it doesn't help, the car feels good yet I'm 2 seconds slower than Button.

I'm not bad at Baku but I have to admit I find it more challenging than I thought it might be but I have to admit I enjoy racing it though.

  9. Hughesy said:
I find them pretty easy even on legend  B) Australia was the only tricky one, but that was because I'd only just started playing when I started my career.

yeah Australia isn't one of my strongest tracks though whereas the next race Bahrain is so I'm hoping to pull in a good haul of points there.I didn't expect to in Aus but I thought I'd be doing slightly better than I am I did all right in the quali pace test as in fact I exceeded the teams target in that one so there's hope for me yet but then it might be the fact I'm still new to it and it might be the car to a point as well. But it's all right though I'm enjoying the challenge because I think with enough practice I will be able to nail it. It's just going to take time. In fact I did set the fastest lap in FP2 in Australia so it's not a total loss. But then like you it might be because being a new career and settling in I'm not quite up to speed yet. But as long as I'm meeting my teams general objectives which atm I think I am I'll be relatively happy.

Edit managed to win in Aus in he end so never mattered much. got 2 nice upgrades on the car now too so hopefully things are looking up.

Stupid Codemasters, game was PERFECT, then they release a patch which causes replays and flashbacks to lag. GPU usage drops to like 10% and fps goes down to like 4fps :joy:

Edit: No wait it gets better, this is hilarious Codermasters

yeah saw that myself earlier on the main forum  haven't started my career mode yet likely will tomorrow as I've only got 2 races of my Championship Season to run. Then it's just a case of setting myself up with my avatar and stuff. I know what kind of helmet and number I want it's just which avatar to pick.

Never had the issue you describe with the safety car and I've had it come out 3 or 4 times. Before you reach the safety car there's a delta time you have to stick to, which means it takes longer to bunch it, again this is a new rule so the same thing happens in real life.

When did you do the qualifying sim?  I normally do it at the end of p2 or late in P3, I have no trouble hitting it.

Agreed I've not had any of these issues either

Blew all my money whilst on holiday but that just buys me time to decide if I want to get it or not. So far, I'm seeing a lot of positivity. Career, which is pretty much all I'd play, looks great. Bugs are at an all time low too judging by the comments I'm seeing.

If I had the money now, I'd be getting it!

yeah it is a very good game highly recommended I'd say I've not got round to touching career yet but I've enjoyed the quick races and championship season I'm doing on it so far. I do plan on doing a career mode it's just going to take slightly longer to get around to it than I initially thought because of my problems I've got atm.

  13. Hughesy said:
Career mode is where the game shines, I love the practice objectives and there's some actual progression as you spend points on upgrades. It makes it fun staying with 1 team.

yeah I know about that as I've seen all the vids and that and I'm looking forward to starting mine especially as I was planning on a 2/3 year stint with Williams (assuming they don't give me the boot of course). :p  I just hope CM ignore those asking for the AI to be patched to make them more aggressive as personally I think the AI are fine. I've never liked aggressive AI in F1 games and given F1 is supposed to be a non contact sport Aggression should be a bit moer minimised. 2012's AI was perfect and in my opinion 2016's AI is pretty close. I've been hit up the back a couple of times but so far that's as bad as it's got.I don't mind the AI being a little more aggressive in games like Grid because that's supposed to be more bumper to bumper type action but in F1 tbh it's a big no no. CM went OTT with F1 2013's AI and for me that was for me CM's biggest mistake since they had the license I just don't want them repeating it.

Thats not good bud, hope you heal ok. Hospital does suck, I was on traction for a week (the thing where your leg is in the air held up by a weight) worst week of my life.

I think F1 16 wipes the floor of all the previous games. I played F1 10 a while back and it looked and felt awful, that bloody wee filter and features that never got fixed.

yeah I should be OK the meds are already kicking in and my foot's feeling a lot better just need to remember to go easy in the hot weather months. I agree with you I'd certainly say I'm finding it just as much fun as I do 2010 and 12  but I've not got round to career yet which is generally where I sink most of my time. Looking forward to doing so again in this game once I've finished my run as Massa in Chqampionship season so I suspect it'll top the previous games for me as well. Especially with all the new practice programs and that you get to do in career mode they've definitely come up with a lot of interesting ideas for 2016 to improve the experience.

So apparently if your tyre gets to 70% wear you get a puncture. I learnt that in Bahrain today, it would have been a really interesting race too, since the SC had just come out.  Luckily it happened on the back straight, but I lost multiple positions and then under the SC Perez was going too slowly catching up, I hit him and lost too much of my wing to stay out :L Race didn't end too well...

Game is really fun though, might be their best ever F1 game tbh.

yeah I agree I certainly think it's a match for 2010 and 12 anyway based on my experiences. Didn't get a chance to play yesterday because I was bedridden after a visit to the hospital Saturday evening. Not much fun I can tell you that. One disadvantage of being in a wheelchair is the fact your legs and feet are vulnerable to infections amnd I wasn't being careful enough it would seem as I've now got cellulitis in my right foot. Fortunately I think we caught it early I think so hopefully I'll be better soon. I plan to do qat least a couple of races today though as I'm being  at least partially unleashed but I stil have to keep my feet up though at times so won't get too much done

This is awesome, my first wet race at China, still managed to get a great start. Lap 12 I'm p1, Rosberg goes for the overtake on the back straight, I closed him off and then at the hairpin Hamilton T-boned Rosberg as I watched in my mirrors :joy:

Guess they're already at it aren't they? :p  Had my first wet race in Russia last night misread the conditions and how much rain we were going to get and it ended up costing me the win but I did manage to salvage 3rd in the  end so it wasn't a complete disaster. Just about to have another one at Monaco as it's raining heavily in Monte Carlo atm. I sense a safety car or 2 happening this weekend. Especially given how I handle the wet in Monaco

Haha too late, already did  B)

Right normally I'm not that great at China, but I'm doing really well. Now I have the FFB tuned in I can push harder than previous games. Its taken years to get it right, but they have finally created a full F1 experience. Everything works, I haven't experienced bugs, I have had the virtual safety car and safety car come out and it's perfect. You can tell last year they were so focused on getting F1 on the new consoles they didn't have time to do much.

Also the PC version is beautiful, last year it was a blurry mess which they tried to fix but couldn't, this year no such issues. If there's one opportunity they missed it's not supporting VR like they added to Dirt. I don't have VR and won't for a long time, but it's enough for some not to buy it even though the game is awesome.
Agreed I've not experienced any bugs at all yet the game has crashed a couple of times but that's all but certainly no more than my other games do. So far it's pretty stable I haven' t seen the safety car yet but then seeing as I generally run with damage off I probably won't be seeing it as much as others. I do have I turned on though and I'm sure it'll make at least one appearance round Monaco knowing my luck. :p

You obviously have a better engineer even though we are in the same team :joy:

Challenges were pretty easy for me at the next race, first lap doing the qualifying sim I got not just the first target time but also the next target. I do love racing at Bahrain so maybe that's why, but Yea I actually like the challenges a lot.
Yeah I love racing at Bahrain as well one of my strongest tracks in these games in fact just about to race it in my championship season.

I like the changes to the physics, what I don't like is the lack of feedback using a wheel. Now that I've been to see my nephew to give him his birthday present I can finally focus on the game. I have a lot of setup work to do in practice 2, as I'm a second slower than Button.

I'd certainly class this as a sim now, really really enjoying it the longer I play. Practice sessions are great now, also one mistake and it can be all over which it should be. Damage can be taken easily which I've been hoping for. I'm still not getting the feedback I'd like, but I'm improving it. The McLaren is a tricky beast but it's fun, I love it.

I'm still slower than Button, I'm not lowering the difficulty though, I'm determined to get better.

yeah I agree it's definitely more sim like this year as it feels like it in the Williams as well. I'm slightly quicker than Bottas on my difficulty but the difference is only about half a second so I'm quite happy with the difficulty I've got. The Williams feels like it's got plenty of raw power at it's disposal but I do find I have to slow it down a little more than I did in previous games due to the car lacking a bit of downforce (which it should given the real Williams does) and because of this even on tracks where I'm pretty strong I've not been running away into the distance that much but that's the experience I've had so far. Only just done Australia in Championship season my first 25% race and only just came away with the win as I only beat Rosberg by only 2/3 seconds I think as he was right behind me the whole way. I've got a feeling this is going to be just as much fun as racing the F1 2012 AI based on my experiences thus far and I've had some great battles with F1 2012's AI.

  20. So after nearly 2 hours of practice, had my first race on F1 2016 a little while ago. Decided to go for Baku as Ricciardo, Expert AI, no assists. Not gonna write loads though because it's close to 3:30am and I'm a bit tired!

In practice I was only 19th, but managed to get 5 seconds quicker than my first proper lap over the space of about 30 mins, and I was using the hardest compound.

Qualified 6th with a 1:45.453, Verstappen was down in 14th 0.8s off my lap, pretty happy with that!

Proceed to race, it's raining, ****. Formation lap was kinda cool, didn't crash. Had a good start with the clutch and made up 1 place to 5th. The 4 cars ahead (2 Mercs, 2 Ferrari's) pulled a 4 second gap on me, I pulled a 4 second gap on Massa behind and it stayed like that for a while. Starts to dry though and I'm losing time. So pit for softs to go to the end, the first lap on them is super slippery, but when they warm up the grip gets good.
Second lap on the softs Raikkonen spins at the castle, safety car comes out, I'm in 4th. Start racing again, still 4th, starts to rain again not long later. Pit for inters, whole field comes in and even though there's gaps I get held in the pit box and lose 9 seconds, lost 3 places while I'm shouting at the screen.
Managed to overtake Vettel, and then Nasr to move up to 5th, and then finished there because the car in 4th had disappeared thanks to Nasr being slow and the pit lane hold up.

    Top 10:
    1. Hamilton
    2. Alonso
    3. Grosjean
    4. Sainz
    5. Ricciardo (me)
    6. Vettel
    7. Nasr
    8. Rosberg
    9. Massa
    10. Wherlein
The only reason Alonso and Grosjean finished on the podium was thanks to every car pitting at the same time and the game not slotting the leading cars back out into gaps that were big enough, which is just a bit ****!
Other than that though, it's actually pretty damn good, a lot better than 2015. The AI is improved, much faster than they've been before it seems, and they don't back out as much as others have claimed (side by side with Raikkonen between turns 4 and 5 and he came out on top). The cars are harder to drive, except they feel like they have a bit more grip and more weight than 2015. The coolest thing to me is just how immense the sense of speed feels in cockpit view on Baku's 2 DRS straights, it's so damn easy to miss the braking markers, lock up trying to make the turn, and then take a wheel off on the barrier. My first few practice laps were pretty much that repeated at the end of each of the straights lol.

So far, even after only having done some practice laps at Silverstone, and then a race weekend at Baku, I'd already give this an 8/10. Onto career mode tomorrow!

yeah I have to agree with your assessment there I've not done a long race yet but I've done a few 3 lap ones as Massa and I've definitely found the car tricky to handle almost like it's struggling for downforce which it probably is given it's a Williams but I've had a lot of fun so far. I think with a bit of practice I can get used to the game though and it's not too different from 2015 in it's difficulty which I was quiet pleased with given I felt quite comfortable with the easier settings on 2015. I would probably give it a similar score 8 or 8.5. Will likely start a champoinship season on the game tomorrow and move onto career when I finish that. I did 3 races. One at Baku which I crashed out of because I didn't realise I had damage on. 1 at Singapore in daylight which looks really good btw and my 3rd one at midnight at Abu Dhabi which again looks really spectacular both in daylight and at night. I did manage to win both the Singapore and Abu Dhabi races though although not by much. I definitely felt the pressuer being piled on me in those races even to the point where I unfortunately  caused Vettel to crash in Singapore when defending myself. Unfortunately he was forced to retire but it was a fun race.

I do know it's a Steam game dude :p But there was a small amount of hope lol.
There's no such thing as hope these days bud :p

I'm actively avoiding gameplay videos as I want to find it out myself. Not too long now, but I've been sick all day so I'm not even sure I'll play it tonight :/

yeah everything I've been watching has made me more pumped for it. I'll likely only do a few 3 lap style races tonight on it though and have a look a the time of day editor at some of the tracks maybe do a quick race around Baku or something like that  to have a look at that track. But I'll likely save the serious stuff until tomorrow
