New Launch Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yxz1KUxw9E But CM, this time it really struck me, you really have to cut back on the cuts! It' like cut to death without focus on any single moment. I still think this was your best trailer so far : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Euoh9BovlJg Maybe not everyones taste in music (I like it though), but a nice coherent mix of fast, intense rallying together with moments of freezing/slow that capture the beauty and DiRT of the cars and enviroment as well as the vehicle dynamics and physical forces stressed on a rally car.

I wish the i20 in Finland (pick Wales, lowest complexity, maximum length, as much forest as possible, sunny weather)
-
I guess it's not a change. Think of fog-patches hanging stationary in a valley. You drive in, you drive out

New stuff from VVV everyone, more looks at Wales and a Heli-Dust-Storm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGWRUwAr-Bo

@RodgerDavies Thanks for that little insight, still seems like a strange arrangement to me, but I guess yaayh old empires ? XD So basically the nations of UK don't have as much independence as federal states, but they feel a lot more distinct to each other than federal states do.(Except maybe Bavaria or Texas...) And Flag-wise it's whatever floats your boat as long as it's allowed legally. Another thing I find strange though, is how Wales seems to be ignored in the union jack. It's a mach-up of all big UK-members except Wales. How hard would've been to put that dragon in the middle of the union jack?
-
Can somebody explain the UK to me? Rally Wales is designated with the Welsh flag in DiRT 4 and several other places. WRC official page and several other other places use the union jack instead. Isn't it normal to use the flag of the nation? Like the US Flag instead of the Flag of Michigan? I could even understand the use of the state-flag in case of federations like the US or Germany. Because a federal state in those nations has great deals of autonomy and stuff. But as I understand it the UK is a unitary state isn't it? Aren't the local states more like districts with a strong local identity feeling rather than parts of a federation ?

To celebrate the 4 digit page numbers and my agreeing with this above, I shall once more strengthen the Argentina campaign: With the five locations and virtually endless stages, the most rewarding new location would be with a different surface. The most different kind of surface to the ones we get would be very heavy gravel. The most spectacular stage and rally would obviously be the Azores Airlines Rally... but I see that the Crater stage (which makes part of the awesome factor) would probably hard to emulate with YourStage and would require huge draw-distance. So the next best heavy gravel location, and actually featured in the WRC, is Argentina ! A lot might call for Rally Safari or Finland, but I think surface and driving-wise it would be very similar to Australia / USA(keep the stage-length limit in mind guys), so Argentina would add the most spice to the collection of locations. But on another note I highly agree with @bogani , this is by far the best gaming-community I've ever been part of ! And tremendous compliments to everybody @Codemasters for being an example in the industry. Unrelated to DiRT 4 itself, the whole community interaction from CM is how game devs should be. Actually responding to the fans and hearing their ideas and complains to create even better products. And actually being able to say "no, we won't / couldn't do this and that, because... " gives your most caring customers and fans the insight to why decisions were made and why some things are how they are. Actual Team-Members like @KickUp openly answering specific questions about an upcoming game here and not just press-department realeasing snippets of generelized information is great policy and great care for the enthusiast-base of fans which you gathered through DiRT Rally. I'm no huge F1 fan, so can't gather the whole of CM, but judging by the DiRT Team: You are currently by quite a margin my personal absolute favorite game-developer out there. And I'm not "only" playing niche sim-racing as my hobbies, On the gaming side, unrelated to cars or racing, this means you are as a developer currently above names like Colossal Order, Kunos Simulazioni, Rockstar North, Naughty Dog, Kojima Prod., Io Interactive or Frontier Developments. So CM, keep that track going, I think I speak for everybody here with this: Just kidding, this is it, goes to all of the DiRT Team and this awesome community:

Got another very specific YourStage question @KickUp : Seeing your stream with sunny Wales it seems to fit pretty well with my League-plans of reusing locations for different events with different feelings. Looking at the YourStage preview pics, the general location of Wales seems to be 50/50 between forests and open fields. First important pre-question: Is the general Area bigger than the longest stages? So will different 15km stages be able to be in broadly different locations or will a 15km stage almost always run from edge to edge of the generating-area, so that you cross most of the available location features? If the answer is 'bigger than 15x15km' then the real question is: Does the algorithm of generation allow stages that are mostly monotonous in their feature inclusion? So would it be possible, if your patient enough to click 'generate' often enough, to lay down a stage that features 80 % Welsh Forest or equivalently 80 % open fields at above 15km length? Same question would extend to the other locations between forest/jungle and open fields/outback.

He didn't 'barely' touch the grass, he was driving right over it after the spin. you can see that in the replay. Reset location looked about right to me 14:50 in the stream

It's about choice. Thanks for clearing that up! I understand now that it is completely up to the player how he/she wants to play the careermode and make use of his/her team. It also means more freedom as a player as well. I need to adapt to this "new" and "unstructered" freedom within gaming :p If you want a pragmatic reason: If you give some damn about how your car looks, I believe you'll need your own team to customize your livery. Apart from that it's as you say, about choice. Maybe you'll only choose to play D4 because you want to immerse yourself in the driving of a rally-car. But some others might additionally want to immerse themselves in the managing of a racing team.

Yes Vier is the same, there are actually quite a few words that are quite similar (but so are in english) and particularly the grammar is same I believe, but it is still very different. Dutch can't understand german and Germans can't understand dutch (unless they learn it of course). I just tried to find a similar situation with a language compared to english, but failed... Probably because english emerged from a mix of several european languages together and is therefor quite distinguishable to everything, no? Just thought I missed the first german news-cover, but, I guess, who am I kidding. The german game media is most of the time late to the party and I feel they are all very very mainstream oriented anyway.

Haven't seen a german vid yet? Where and by whom?

Do preorders get the i20 directly gifted to their garage or do they just have the opportunity to buy it? I would actually prefer the latter, as I'd like to play towards the R5 class rather than getting jumped right into it. I also wouldn't have any big incentive to save for a R5 car, as the i20 is imo already the best/most aggressive looking of the 4 available. Second question: was it already answered somewhere if the Group B will get their handbrake removed or not?
-
It was already confirmed, that if you wish to do so, you can even watch the whole replay from heli-cam.

Can someone tell me why there always is that trail of white smoke behind the S1 E2 ? Are those exhaust fumes, was it really that dirty?? I can think of much older race and rallycars that didn't leave such a trail so I find it hard to believe this was the state of the art? Or was the reglement that loose so manufacturers just didn't care about the gases once they were past the turbo? Or was that from the clutch slowly ablating over the course of the day? Can't think of anything else to produce such smoke in normal use

As to getting graphics, PC is one massive paradox. We get the most processing power and yet the games are horribly optimised, full of bugs (often weird ones), crash a lot and what not. And there's of course the "grandma's laptop" battalion nowadays known as #PCMasterRace which doesn't help things. The difference is knowledge. Devs know exactly what hardware is in a console and what OS runs it and can get all the info they need. So you can really optimise your software/game for that particular system to use all the ressources. With PC you kinda need to compromise, because you don't really know what people are running and which OS. Of course you want to get your system req down to reasonable levels and so you try to find a sweet spot of good performance and good all-roundability with running. Every CPU and every GPU works slightly different, but the OS and drivers take care they all get feeded in an understandable way. But that never quite tickles out the last bit of capabilities if you not write your software for that piece of hardware. Generally speaking

I also find the Bugeye the most ugly Impreza. My most important Subaru-wish got fulfilled though with the 2015 R4 STI :) Best looking WRC Impreza would be the 06 and 07 ones, the Hawkeyes. The 07 would make a nice playmate for the Mk2 Focus RS too.... Well with multiclass events being a thing soon, I will probably drive the Evo VI most against the 01 cars wherever possible. They competed against each other and from my information the Evo has a sequential box too, so it would be more similar to drive to the 01's than to the rest of Grp A where I have to use my H-Shifter. (... technically not 'have to' but why should I own a shifter If I wouldn't wanna drive the cars the way the real ones work)
-
I adored Croatia and Malaysia in D2, the tracks were just gorgeous. Would definitely approve DLC for these locations if possible with Your Stage! Argentina First! Croatia can be second though
-
I have another two questions to @KickUp about the upcoming Clubs/Leagues: With multiclass events being a thing now, can we create Multiclass League Seasons and will the classes have different Rankings throughout the Season? Can people be 'locked' in class once they choose to enter in one of the available classes in a League? If not available, can we maybe create above system manually with the mentioned increased control for league/club- creators? Second, can we 'create' our own car classes or is multiclass always tied to the ingame classes? For example setting up one class of a multiclass event as containing the Impreza 01, Focus 01 and Evo VI and none of the others (kinda 2001'sWRC-class) ? @warpengage That looked like a purely visual bug to me. The car probably got physically repaired for the event restart, but the visual damag-model state didn't get updated right. Next time it got updated mid-stage when scraping that rail and realised, that it is in fact not really damaged, therfor displaying the corrected state of the bumper. TL;DR Not two, but one bug, and probably only visual and an 'easy fix'

When I drive H-shift, I use the left shift-paddle on the wheel as handbrake, much better than any button, because you know remotely where it is even while turning the wheel.
-
@KickUp @Hatward If you still develop the Club System, maybe a 'immersive' suggestion: With the tech to have broken down rival drivers on stage, could you maybe look into ow difficult it would be for online leagues to implement? In the sense, that if someone retires on a stage, then all drivers on that stage afterwards would see that exact car broken down 'somewhere' on that stage. I suspect only one breakdown is possible to encounter, so the first one braking down on a stage will be the only one shown to others.

This is from the Trailer and I think the conditions look Awesome. Question is, how do you create those conditions, is there a Weather: 'Just stopped raining' setting ? Roads are still wet and full of puddles, but sun is shining and patches of Sky are blue. Are the Weather/Time options equal across all 5 locations (apart maybe Sweden)? So is an intermediate state like this also possible in Spain or Michigan or Australia?
-
@KickUp Can we create single League Events that consist of stages from different locations like you can in DiRT Rally? Like 2 stages spain, Service Park and then 3 stages Wales? Additionally, are setups bound to the location, so will the car setup still reset if you change location without a Service Park in between? And Last: Do you get different rankings and points for different classes if you run multiclass league events or are they all counted towards the overall league standing? I really enjoyed the Trailer by the way, lots of awesome stuff to see :)
-
I think the mountains look fine. What you see there looks like a clipping-error to me, maybe due to camera angle inside something. Can some of the developers shed light onto what exactly the stuff down the road is?
-
I have to say, those mountains in Sweden really surprised me, and I like them. It fit's awesomely well with my league plans for a Rally Norway and a Rally Sweden separately. That brings up a question @KickUp , can you recognize those, let's call them Fjord-Mountains, on the preview-screen when generating a Stage? So you can see, if that stage goes through/contains this particular area or not?
