DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

    3. Finishing the game is our priority we'll decide on DLC later. Don't forget people got really upset when we did DLC for DiRT 3 because "it should have been in the main game" I think DLC itself wasn't the problem there. If I remember correctly the Monte Carlo DLC for DiRT 3 was a day-one DLC or at least very shortly after release. Something like that indicates that the developement was already pretty much done at the day of release, which is why people felt it should've been in the base game.  DLC's are mostly not seen as "bad" by the customers, if it can been seen as commitment by the devs to further develop content for their game after release. It is only seen as bad practise if it can be assumed that most of it was developed already in parallel to the main release and then it's seen as grabbing more money.  Additionally it lengthens the freshness of the game, if you have gaps between the DLC releases.  Basically: Never do DLC's simultanously with the game release. And create most of it after actual release.  So, good practise right now, with priority on the release first. Just wanted to mention that DLC in DiRT 3 wasn't the problem itself, but rather how and when it was done. EDIT: because in DiRT 3 people felt either Monte should've been included or you could've released the base game earlier and then create monte. EDIT 2: and be sure to put the Azores on your list for rally locations to consider as DLC! and Argentina.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Its been said that cars are no longer grouped by age, but on performance instead, so the 2000's are likely just regrouped within some other class Pretty sure the MODERN RALLY R5 Up to 2000cc (4WD) part of the list are separated, it should've been MODERN RALLY R5, Up to 2000cc (4WD). Two different classes. Mr. Coleman forgot the commas :D Ah I see, makes sense, especially since R5 is limited at 1600ccm :D okay than we have a place for those 3 2000's cars. Leaves at least 1-3 unknown rally cars

Its been said that cars are no longer grouped by age, but on performance instead, so the 2000's are likely just regrouped within some other class But where? They were WRC cars, faster than Group A. So the only class performance wise fitting might be R5 am I wrong? And I presume the classes actually named like real classes only contain cars for those classes. The Performance-Matching-Classes I think are H1-H3

Paul confirmed the classes on reddit: "I can't give specific car details but here are the car classes: MODERN RALLY R5 Up to 2000cc (4WD) NR4/R4 Group A F2 Kit Car R2 HISTORIC RALLY Group B (4WD) Group B (RWD) H3 (RWD) H2 (RWD) H2 (FWD) H1 (FWD) RALLYCROSS RX Supercars RX Lites Group B (Rallycross) RX Super 1600 Crosskart LANDRUSH Stadium Truck (4WD) Stadium Truck (RWD) Stadium Buggy" And he said over 50 cars. Which means at least 51. So we have minimum 3 Landrush, probably 6 RXS, RXLites (1+), RXSuper1600(2+), Crosscart, and GrpB Rally(3+) minimum of 16+ non-rally cars. Leaves at least 35 Rally-Cars. R5: 3-5 R4: 2 GrpA: 4 F2: 2+ R2: 1+ GrpB: 5 +2(RWD) H3: 3+  H2: 4+ H2FWD: 1+ H1: 2+ = 29-31 cars That leaves at least 4 unknown Rally cars that weren't in DR, but also the 2000's class is missing. Weren't the Impreza and Foci confirmed?

Personally i would turn it up more in forest stages, especially antilag and backfires could bumped, but thats MY opinion.   Everything is better with more antilag. Fact.  I think turbos should be banned. All cars should be NA with webers/solex/mikunis instead. The world would be a better place. For me. Not the climate. There are people, like me, who actually like the sound of Turbo-Engines. I mean, I have nothing against a good V8 (Shelby GT350, F-Type SVR... ), but: A good sounding turbocharged car at it's limit just gives you the sound equivalent of  "Intense", it really sounds like this very engine is right now giving all it can. The spooling turbine on acceleration ads some aviation flare, too. Like a jet-turbine in your engine-bay (Although a Eurofighter Typhoon is admittably a tiny bit louder when standing next to it on liftoff XD) And let's not forget the whistling, when the boost pressure falls off .

The more I see, the more excited I get! Although that gamer-guy "DiRT Rally is too hard" was really annoying...  but if those hordes of casuals help to keep Codemasters in buissness, it's a good thing, since they can continue to cater to our enthusiast niche in the future. One thing I noticed:  I recognised that one hairpin, which was used in two different stages. That confirms it's a stitichg-parts-together process for Your Stage. But the road behind that hairpin, although completly different in both cases, looked like a believable road you could encounter in real life.  I can still see, that you will still learn those recognizable corners and how to drive them fastest once your playtime is in 3-digit hours, but not knowing what comes up behind the next crest/corner will still force you to closely listen to your Co-Driver.  It probably also comes down to how many "pieces" they have for each location, for how often you will see familar bits and pieces

@KickUp Since you opened up with never-featured-in-WRC location with Michigan, where I suppose licensing stuff issues are not such a big problem, and it seems Spain is tarmac only, might I suggest a location for you to look at for DLC maybe (if that isn't written in stone yet): Azores Rally.  Modelling maybe the crater stage as a real stage and give the YourStage thing only the bits that are not directly on the rim and have blocked views anyways with those big earth-walls. And it would be a tarmac-gravel-mixed location, so some new flavour (apart from the views)  Just as a thing to consider

Nice, very nice and the 2015 WRX STI will be there ! and the R5 cars (at least the Fiesta) improved physics sounds nice too! Fewer rally locations is a bummer... but custom stages sounds super awesome ! Important question for the visitors: How long can you make those custom stages ? Like maximum length ? And do you know if you can save them and create some nice complete rally events from those featuring only long realistic stages ? that would be bonkers And it being a main-release game from CM, we can probably count on Rally-location-DLC Does anyone know if this is an evolved EGO or if it's a new engine?

For Flight Sims your argument is pretty neglegtable... In a Flight-Sim you'd need at least 9 Screens to come even close of the immersion of VR (Talking Fighter and Bomber Aircraft here, with canopees, not those commercial liners.) Because you need to look up very often. You visually follow your target the same you follow the road in cars, but in a planeyou have one more axis. That is much more immersing if you can use that.  (I don't have VR yet, but I've flown in a real Flight-Simulator (The Big ones) once, so I can compare the effect.) And your argument for cars seems rather limited for my taste, but it's perfectly fine to prefer, what you prefer. But for me, although you can replicate a real cockpit in your sim-cockpit, isn't it the variety you can experience in a simulation one of the most important things? I mean, if I would only be interested in driving one single car, I would rather spend my efforts towards buying the real thing rather than simulating it. Because, If you have the money for big high quality replica sim-racing cockpits, you also have the money to buy or finance a real car or instead get your first step into motorsport.  (Im talking Fanatec pricelevels here, as I doubt you would spend the effort to replicate all the buttons and function while only having a T100 wheel and no shifter.) Just my opinion though

Just please don't start the GIF - JIF battle here, it's gonna be S1 22B all over again  Did someone say Subaru? Yes. We need to discuss the correct pronounciation of Subaru. You need to sound like an angry japanese when saying it. Here in Germany Subaru is pronounced with a long and strong first u (as it is written), but I know most english speakers will pronounce it with a very short first u, like: Subbarru Which is the "correct" aka Japanese way of saying I do not know... XD

I do remember that too yes. Don't quite follow the Kebab-Pizza hype around you guys, I still find Kebab-Meat in it's classic form as a Döner to be most delicious: Anyway, anyone remember that video where that Australian rally driver played dirt rally? I went ahead and tried to match him (And used that purpose as an excuse to try out FOV-filming, which showed that I porbably need a better action-cam...? ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvERjcByc-Y

I am actually excited for FH3 coming to PC. Played the first one back in the day, and it's arguably the only game series that offers nice cars to drive in an open world enviroment with somewhat bearable driving physics and wheel support.  I think it will be a great game to relax and enjoy your petrol-headery with nice cars on the open road. And with your Dirt Rally driving skills you can probably go online occasionally to completely dominate those casual folks :D :D :D
  15. I finally have a reason to ask something here:) What do you do if you have unlocked and upgraded everything and beaten Masters everywhere? Right, you try how hard it would be to get one of those sweet World Record times on a stage. So I'm in the process of trying to achieve that.  First I tried Lysvik, but stupid snowbanks push me to far into catious driving there (#36 on LB), so I picked my (probably) favorite stage in the game right now: Perasma Platini, so fast, so little room for error, so nice looking, and a very predictible surface to drive on. I achieved #20 LB after a few tries, missing roughly 20s to WR. I count up to roughly 10 corners, where I either drove suboptimal or I can still see a line improvement. But even if every one of those cost me 1,5s (Which is high for 'one' corner) I'm still 5s short. Soo, my question would be some setup advice? Can you see anything in the footage where my setup is improvable? Especially regarding Gear-ratio and Diffs (I'm super-confident with the current suspension and damper-settings) Any time to get there? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rilCcBzfEc P.S. I was actually surprised how few common names here from the forum where in the Perasma Platini upper rankings o.O Do many still don't like Greece? I felt liking it more and more the better I got at driving.  Cheers SkyRex

Just going to leave this here... Well... a 'realistic' difficulty level for career, including realistic damage to your car and a lot fewer service parks (which requires the realistic damage, as currently some components cumulate damage even if you drive super-clean (engine, suspension etc.), but make heavy impacts more impacting. and maybe a minor one: Super Special Stages  everything else on my wishlist is mainly either content or eyecandy
  17. For greece I tend to go with quite high ground clearance and quite soft dampers. This way you can drive over a lot of the road edges, without upsetting the car, because the suspension swallows the difference. But that won't save you from walls and such. Greece is pretty narrow overall. At the beginning I wasn't very good there but it gets better with practise. By now greece is one of my favorite locations, for the very reason that you have such little margins for error if going fast. That makes the thrill ;)
  18. Is there any telemetry tool, which also shows when you apply the handbrake ? Then I would record a run or two up greece and monte to showcase handbrake turns
  19. The best time yo apply the handbrake is just before you turn. You shouldn't not see the car tire steer in the direction of the corner at all when doing it. Start at 4:40 https://youtu.be/4NOFF-SEzDk?t=4m40s You should brake normally like you do & simply pull de handbrake before you turn(kind of hard to explain, that's why I linked a video above). Well, you should turn in slightly, to let the car slide in the direction you want. But only very slightly. Like : Brake Brake Brak-> very very beginning of wheel turning, very slightly, then immediatly handbrake -- release the handbrak again before you're even in the turn --> you should be sliding now: Now it's a matter of what drivetrain your driving, which impacts how you can steer the drift whith the throttle: Throttle applied--> FWD=straightens up / RWD = drift angle increases / AWD = drift radius increases That way you get through the sharp corners. Places to use handbrake turns:  every corner 90 degrees and more some corners on slippery surface (Monte Carlo ice up the mountain, the two and one corners, dependng on car) To safe your car from a dangerous situation , e.g. if you enterd a corner faster than good and want to keep your car on the road at any cost (cost = speed) Places where normal braking is better:  All other situations Cheers SkyRex
