  1. @LiteralZero Seems like I've figured out what was causing the burning smell. It was my sound card lol. It was sat right above my top GPU and absorbing ridiculous amounts of heat from it, so I pulled it out and haven't had the burning smell again since. Only trouble now is its gonna cost me £65 for an external soundboard.

  2. that's why im strictly plug and play console gamer just cant be bothered with all that work you pc guys have to do all the time.

Yea it can certainly be a pain, but there is upsides to it though :p Like if it turns out I do have a problem then I'll be able to take out whatever the problem part is and chuck in one of the spares I have of most components, send it off for replacement under warranty and carry on gaming. With a console if something goes wrong you gotta send the entire thing away and not have anything to game on till it returns ;)

Plus with a powerful PC gaming on it is just so much better an experience than console, and there's the fact that PC's are a hell of a lot more versatile than consoles :p

  3. I'd give it a test and check out the changes but my PC started emanating burning smells when I was playing PCars last night :( Gotta figure out what caused it before putting too much load on it.
Mine has done that before, I'm about 99% sure that it was just dust on the GPU. Need to clean it more often

I'm very much hoping it was just that! I usually dust my PC every 2 weeks but the fan on the Nvidia reference cooler is a massive pain to clean lol. What I didn't mention though was that I quit out of the game and loaded up HWMonitor, scrolled down and I'm fairly sure GPU 2's temp had gone nuclear. It looked as though it said either 180c or 1800c, as soon as I saw 18 as the first 2 numbers though I immediately started holding down the power button and got my face next to the side panel window to see if the fan had stopped spinning.

Tried both cards separately too to see if it was maybe just one of them had had some kind of failure and both seemed OK, normal temps and spinning fans for both. I've put them both back in but haven't booted up since last night, kinda putting it off because it's a little stressful after the amount I've spent on it lol.

@Hughesy gave me a good idea though, he suggested it could be cables and my FP audio cable does actually rest along the top of the GPU that gets hottest so I'm gonna try routing it so it isn't touching and hope it was either that or dust.

Haha yea, I was reading some of the angry comments about that yesterday :p Doesn't bother me either because I'll be going Windows 10 too. With DX12 and it being free it doesn't make sense not to switch.
I just knew once I read the headline that people would get their pitchforks out :joy:

  5. It does look kinda big lol. Probably about the same size as a WiFi adapter though right? For me it'll be plugged into a USB hub I've got tucked under my desk, I currently plug my X1 controller into that anyway so should bee all good :)

And the price is pretty good, just hoping it's not gonna be like a $25 = £25 thing lol.

  6. Alright, that's cool, thanks. I just looked at available countries and while it is in Austria and France, it isn't in Spain (which is annoying as that's where I'll be spending 3 of the 5 weeks :/ )

But thanks for the suggestions! Marco Polo is one I definitely wanted to watch, and Breaking Bad too! I watched one episode months ago at school and was hooked! :p
You won't be disappointed with Breaking Bad. It gets a bit slow at times, but overall it's probably one of the best TV series I've ever seen.

While it not being on free TV is negative, I'd rather have them be able to do what they want and create the best show possible. Can't see that possible on a TV channel.

I just feel that anything on Sky, etc, will be in a similar vein to what was on BBC, just with less of it because of adverts. But we'll see what happens.
I agree dude that with something like Netflix they'd really be able to do what they wanted to make the show the best, and it'd be fantastic. But putting anything that Clarkson, May, and Hammond do behind a pay wall is just a big no for me.
It's like with the F1, Sky's viewer figures aren't particularly high despite the coverage being really good. Where even with more than half the races being shown as highlights BBC's figure are generally a lot higher per race. I think it's something like BBC usually score 2-3 millions viewers even with highlights (just read the 2013 German GP highlights hit 7.7 million), when Sky I don't think have even hit a million viewers for any race yet. Highest number I remember reading for them was around 945,000.

Reason being because you gotta pay a fair bit extra on top of the TV license for Sky (about 5x as much as the TV license alone), while with BBC you pay your TV license and all BBC channels and every other freeview channel is free. So to have Top Gear stuck behind a pay wall where only people willing to pay for it can watch it would suck, I'd definitely rather put up with a cut down show featuring adverts over one I'd have to pay for a monthly subscription on top of the TV license just to get away from 9 minutes of adverts per show.

Saying that though, if it has Clarkson, May, and Hammond, then it doesn't really bother me how it's shown, I'll watch it one way or another! There's always streaming sites if it comes to it ;)

  8. True on that dude, and the only way I'll be going up in res is when the prices of the 1440p 144hz monitors start going down :p

And that's fully understandable bud, you've got a great card as it is so when Pascal is well on it's way it does make sense to wait for it rather than go Sli now.

  9. I've tried Netflix but it just seemed kinda rubbish to me with a lot of stuff being fairly outdated. Now TV suited my tastes better (definitely more of a movie guy rather than series) but really I wouldn't use either of them often enough to justify paying for them.

  10. Fair play bud. I'm just gonna stick with Maxwell and keep my fingers crossed that most devs do use VRAM pooling with DX12 :p If not I could end up being a bit screwed eventually :(

Either way, I'll wait and see what Nvidia do with Pascal and see how it compares to my cards once it's out and the benchmarks are up to see. If it's drastically better I might consider selling the 980's, but it depends too on whether games start getting that much more demanding because of the leap with HBM.

My current plan though is to wait for Volta and hope my 980's don't get left in the dust too long before then :p

I don't think any PC game should cost more than £35, normally £30 is my limit or around that. Microsoft and Sony take a large cut on consoles, and patches cost money for devs, whereas you don't have that on PC. The prices on Steam are becoming ridiculous, I'll never resort to buying from unofficial keysites though. Not only do I not trust them, I don't trust them with my debit card information.
Yea I'd say £29 is pretty reasonable really.

I don't think Microsoft charge for console game patches anymore dude, pretty sure I read something about that a while before the X1 came out, probably so that they could entice more indie devs. But I'm completely in agreement on Steam prices. After seeing The Witcher 3 on there for £49.99 and now Fallout 4 for the same price I won't be buying from either.
And I wouldn't trust a Steam key site with my debit card details either, which is why it's lucky all the ones I use accept PayPal ;)

  12. Damn you Piquet :(

Also I was quite happy to see Trulli having his rear wing taken off. Drove like a ****. Cutting the chicane every time somebody came down his inside, 1 time I could understand, but he did it 4 times on camera right? Maybe more when he wasn't being filmed.
Didn't notice him giving back any positions?
He didn't dude. Not once. The only drivers who did were Buemi and Vergne when they were super polite to each other lol.
