    Thank you

Dear forum-goers! Those of you that frequent the site and/or follow me on Twitter will know I have left the building (so to speak). I've little desire in debating the reasons for my leaving, what did/did not happen in the Formula One series over the years and why certain decisions were taken - that can perhaps come at a much later date and outside of this forum. For what it's worth I decided to resign even though F1 could be on the cusp of being bigger than it has ever been before. I want the F1 team, in particular the guys I spent many years working with, to take future games in the direction they feel comfortable with and without me casting a distracting shadow. My talking about what might have been helps nobody. I've every faith in them creating a fantastic title on the more powerful consoles next year. I won't engage in discussion, this is a goodbye post. I'm actually very excited to play the next title as a gamer rather than the developer this time around! The handling is where I had hoped we'd have been with the initial F1 2010 game. It's typical we would (they would?) reach that point as I decided to move on. An opportunity came along and I weighed everything up, for myself and my family. It was a difficult decision to make, indeed I agonised over it for some time because I thoroughly enjoyed myself and got to work on a series dedicated to a sport so close to my heart and with wonderful people to boot. I might even invest a few hundred pounds in a wheel and pedals setup... it's that good! But enough of that romantic nonsense! I'll only be accused of promoting the next game even though I won't benefit from it. I wanted to post one final time to thank you, the guys and gals that take the time out to post (and read) on this, the official forum. Over the years I spent countless hours reading and sometimes even involving myself in the debates that raged in this small pocket of the Internet. You are important and I tried to impress this upon people. I got to appreciate the varied views on display. I understand it's difficult to convey your point of view in text alone and never took anything personally. My only regret is not getting to the point where I'd made the game I really wanted to make - because that, I feel, is what many of you would have liked to have played.  Whether or not I'd ever be entirely happy I'm not sure - it might well be an impossible goal   Please, do try to get onboard with what the team are working incredibly hard to bring to a store near you in 2015. They have an enormous amount of passion and you can help fuel their desire to make the very best Formula One game. Those that wish to follow me on the next adventure, please do so. I'd love for you to come along. Those that want to blame me for anything and everything, as you were. I promise the current issues in the real world of Formula One are not of my making.  Thank you for your interaction, commitment and time. The F1 community made everything worthwhile. Au revoir. Jenson for Drivers Champion in 2015 (who says us designer types can't dream?) Steve

    New structure at CM ?

I kind of left six months ago when I started to work in a different role outside of the F1 team. But then I was asked to go back into it and by that time I had my head turned by another opportunity. Such is life. Though like I've said, leaving F1 2015 is very difficult for me as it feels like they are on to something special and I was there from the very start when we were defining what it'd be. It'll probably be the best game yet and I'll look like an idiot for leaving! (not unusual, I know). As for the series becoming stale - Major step forwards in terms of core game features (e.g. Career) I'd have liked, sure. But it's hard to make a massive step forward with less than eight months development time per project. To bring about a huge step change, you need a run-up. You can't have a single dev team generate the yearly iteration and a huge new project simultaneously. You see this with many games. These projects are hugely complex and incredibly costly. What we want as gamers has to be balanced by the need to pay our way. This is where I expect 2015 to turn things around for the better. As for the guy asking about QA testing - they find the issues, it's up to us the development team to fix them. What with the original engine and time pressures we didn't get to everything (no developer ever does). Something that did become apparent over the series were how problematic some of the issues were, just how deep they went. That's something they are actively trying to rectify with the upcoming game and I sincerely hope it works out as planned. I apologise if people have encountered issues. This isn't an excuse, just a brief explanation.

I don't think even I would remove a feature that existed for the sake of it (it's more work to remove it than to leave it as is). As I've said previously - it came down to QA testing new elements versus having to cover the entire race weekend (which, when tested repeatedly as these things are, takes countless hours of time from multiple people). I didn't like it at the time, I don't like it now. But I'd still make the same choice because the new elements were more popular than all the practice sessions. I've also said the entire race weekend is an incredibly valid goal (we had it from the start) but that the elements intended to make it what it is in real life didn't materialise quick enough. If people ask sensibly I tend to explain. I know I have (repeatedly) for this particular thing that SpecOps has a real issue with. But here I notice history tends to get re-written to suit a particular argument ;-) It's good to see people like VirtualIceMan and Magic01 applying some logic to their posts. It's disappointing to see people take aim at them for not jumping on the negative bandwagon. Good doggie, now have your biscuit? Really? And you wonder why I started to interact less. Lets just be a little more appreciative of peoples opinions. If you want to have a go and blame me for everything that's fine, but at least do it in a more civilised manner. Everyone posting looks to be intelligent enough to do so. You are being heard. Being civilised is not an admission that you think everything in the game and all decisions related to it are perfect. I know it's not perfect.  I'll be out of here by next Friday (with a size 10 up me and the door hitting me on the way out etc etc). If I'd been asked to leave or worse still fired, I don't think I'd be posting. I'm more than happy to try and answer the odd burning question people might have as long as I'm not asked what's in the 2015 game. That's for the team to promote as and when they are ready. I'm incredibly sad about not sticking around to see that one out as I think it's likely to be the first step towards the game I wanted to make. The handling is sumblime. At last! Okay, I said I wouldn't talk about :)

I thought I'd pop in and correct one thing. Never have I blamed the development team for anything. They've been brilliant for the series and have been wonderful to me during my time here. I'd work with them all anywhere (if they'd have me!). When I said we needed development staff I meant to fill the open roles we're seeking people for so I'm sorry if what I said left that open to interpretation.  I'm fine with people speculating as to why I'm leaving, saying it's all my fault (whatever elements you didn't like) and so on, that kind of comes with the territory.

    F1 2014 - News "Soon"

Yes, I know what formats we're releasing on. If I didn't by this stage I don't think I'd be here for much longer :) And no, we can't reveal what formats we're releasing on just yet. That's news. We're not yet in a position to reveal any. In recent weeks we thought we'd have said something by now and were indeed geared up to do so. When we do reveal we'd like it to be as clear to you all as possible.

    F1 2014 - News "Soon"

Things can sometimes change. But you can't really say you'd do any differently when you don't know why the news hasn't yet been released. Sure, it's frustrating for you guys, but we're not withholding for fun. I suspect I cannot do anything to appease anyone right now other than release news. If I say nothing people will get upset, if I try to explain what little I'm able to people will get upset.

    F1 2014 - News "Soon"

What is your name on Twitter? I try to respond to as many questions as and when I can but if I've a load of messages asking the same thing I don't reply to each and every one of them. And lets be honest, everyone thinks their questions are legitimate :) As for the delay in news, we're not trying to create suspense. We can't always tell you what is going on as some things are not for the public domain. If we tell people that we have no update on when we can reveal any news we're then invariably asked if we're going to supply news this week, next week, on some random guys birthday you name it. Asking if no news will be revealed this week is still the same thing. If there is no news on a release date it means we can't be sure when we're going to be able to release some news. It's as simple as that.  I appreciate this means people will create ever more elaborate conspiracy theories but everything is okay, FOM haven't objected to anything in the game, we're progressing with our projects and so on but this years titles are a little different for reasons I cannot yet discuss. Despite this post people will still ask me questions I cannot answer.
