@MastaVonBlasta is the one of the better code brakers here, my mojo seems to have ran out
-
Man I saw 20 posts since I checked a couple hours ago, I got excited there was some good gossip, oh well...
-
I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on that one @dgeesi0. Don't get me wrong, I've been following the Fiesta build for almost four years now (check page 61!), I know how much thought has gone into the car and I absolutely love what he has done... but just read the specs for the HFHV. The components that are listed are top end; as already said the transmission and engine are basically the best that money can buy plus the car itself has been refined by a professional motorsport team after countless test sessions and competitive outings. I do agree that £250,000 is a lot though, especially as I think the car will require some significant changes to run in any European Championships. Having said that, it's a bit of motoring history in that it's the Gymkhana 5 car. who said it was coming to Europe anyhow??? :P Seriously, I hope someone over hear buys it and runs it in America, Higgins could use some competition, and its almost making it boring like Loeb winning all the time.

cough cough, terrain deformation... Like I mentioned once, before it turned into a debate. @KickUp said its important, and its on the KINGS wish list. Lets hope there is some form of this in a future title, it would really add to the challenge of running the same stage over and over.
-
Big question, and don't expect an answer: will the next title be released into EA? Or was this just an one off experiment?
-
Oh, so I take that means you'll be working on that chase camera mod? In any case, it's good to know another soul can properly enjoy DR :D I actually think another guy has done what I was trying to accomplish, mostly. Look on racedepartment for no inside camera mod, I'll post a link when I get home later. EDIT: here is link (replay can mod). http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/replay-cam-mod-no-onboards.8565/updates Just looked back at my first pic, YIKES! I started my sim rig project way back in October 8th, ouch
-
Not gossip, but I finally got my sim rig finished after 2 months! Haven't played DR with a wheel since before R4 cars where released. Just want ant to comment how great this sim has shaped up to be, the snow feels just right.

Not gossip, off topic, etc... but Im totally gutted and shocked to hear https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/695533440100335616 As bad as life can be, pressure, sickness, depression. You can always find help and support from family and others. "Be brave" and take a positive step. If you are in a deep pit, look up, there is always light, reach for it, grab hold of it. Never look down in self pity and disgust.... Suicide is not the solution. Sorry if this is inappropriate post here, I just feel really bad

I knew the Gossip thread would almost shut down after a final announcement was made and all was revealed xD

@MastaVonBlasta Ok, here is my take on it after reading the article and your post a couple of times now. There are a couple of pieces that stick out for me. "From my perspective, a lot of the stuff players have been asking us to do we've managed to achieve," Coleman said. "There's a bunch of stuff they've been asking us to do that's beyond the capabilities of the engine as it stands, and one of those things is a much broader selection of tracks." "We could create a short-term fix and offer a couple of new locations over the course of a year - don't forget we had the art team creating tracks since [development on Dirt Rally began in] 2012, and we'd front-loaded a lot of stuff - rather than delaying the inevitable we're going to see what changes we can make to the engine so we can deliver the more challenging things we haven't done just yet. So there are no plans for the near future, because we want to fundamentally improve the engine to make something bigger and better." "I'm not talking about dumbing down. I'm talking about taking novice players and making them confident and capable." Hopefully everyone can see what I text bolded. I also have that Survey from a while ago in the back of my mind. So drawing on that a little, looking at what my <non-rally friends> like to play, some business knowledge and a bit of a level head not let my passion get in the way. Here is how I see it, they have maxed out the engine with what they have accomplished and doesn't sound like its an easy tweak or upgrade. Think about what we have been talking about over the last month: Terrain deformation (just example), longer stages (of course), renamed camera and recording system, and we could all debate about many more. @kickup has noted on several occasions that different wishlist items are "currently not possible" due to current tech used in the game. It was mentioned in a livestream about replay cameras that I asked about, and a few others asked for things that had a similar answer that currently the tech isn't in the engine. Suppose (please no debate, just using an example) they wanted to do Dakar. 1) you will need really long stages to even have the likeliness of this type of rally 2) when you come to the sand, what do you do with it? How does the engine handle digging into axel deep terrain that deforms and has extremely different and demanding charicteristics from anything we have now. 3) how the heck to you get someone coming from "hey thats a cool box cover" to playing and understanding the sport and ending up enjoying something like Dakar. This is what I feel they are running into: Taking the game to the next level with graphics, leaping over (or farther from) the competition, and reaching larger audiences. Are you still with me? The next game from DiRT team is not going to be micro machines rally. They didn't invest all of this time and research on a physics engine to just abandon it for something that is simple for us Fat Americans to understand. Its about "taking novice players and making them confident and capable", its more about HELPING players to get from say amateur to WRC to Dakar (Loeb's choices) and making that journey not boring for newcomers to rally. So there is a good future for everyone, unfortunately (NO DLC ) we will have to be patient for some time until that happens, its in good hands.

Oh one more thing for everyone, will the 208 have Loeb on the side? bwahahah on SLRE if it does. Probably not, as Burns is missing from the Subaru, but it would be fun to see.
-
[jumping up and down, stomping feet] No NO NO, "That other car" can only be a Subaru, I claim to use that first. :) Now being serious, Paul used something close, can't remember. @kickup Couple of questions for Live show: Will any of the older events, like Greece been giving a second pass with cinema cameras, more like Finland and Sweden? Since moving to a console version, has the cockpit steering animations been updated? Lastly, will there be any DLC after April, has there been a decision made yet?
-
Pretty cool that they went as far as changing the spectator cars for the all gravel PP, it's that kind of attention to detail that makes me smile. It all adds to the subliminal atmosphere that sets the tone for the entire event. It will make a nice contrast to the all asphalt with 208. Will the 208 be in a class all its own, or will there be competition?
-
Is there some reason the background looks more defined in the twitter post? Or is that because the screenshot is from the glass distorting in the screenshot?
-
Not sure if this is a diversion, but what part of Pikes Peak is this? I can't recall. https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/694241756217491456 Im just stabbing in the dark that this could hint at full gravel PP
-
@KickUp :D
-
I said before, if we get a safari rally, it better be done right with the bull guards and tires on the roof, also the Datsun 240 would be missed too. The whole event would be unique.
-
So the question should be asked, after this week and probably after April for sure, this thread should be dead for a while, unless there is DLC to come, eh @KickUp ?
-
Toyota topic: :/
-
Doesn't sound like a 2015 Subie is anywhere to be heard of.
-
I'm not saying there is no middle ground. But that's by it's very definition a compromise. The stages are not perfectly accurate as they are and that would obviously have to get worse to some degree. As soon as you start saying words like compromise, middle-ground, well, those are dirty words for many and enthusiasm often drops. They can do more mileage with the current methods, they just need more budget. Are you forgetting that DiRT Rally was made on a shoe-string budget compared to earlier DiRT games? Where we have the potential impasse is on a sequel. It would seem to make sense to keep all of the current stages (with a few updates/tweaks) and add to them. With a bigger budget, we could theoretically double the environments while adding an entirely new stage or two to each current environment. But that is rarely how it goes for racing games, especially Rally ones. There is always this push towards 100% new stages, both because there is so much to choose from and because recycling them is typically frowned upon amongst the average gamer and journalist. I don't think DiRT Rally has a large enough dedicated audience to live on the FIFA mindset of buying each new game every year. Certainly this seems to be a big problem for Codies F1 series. This is kind of the argument why, perhaps, DiRT Rally may have had more growth potential as a platform, rather than a game series. As per @SkiddyMcCrash request, maybe move this to its own thread, I will contribute there. I find the subject interesting, but its not gossip, more of wishlist discussion.

Most of us (here) have had this game for almost for a year now. For console guys its brand new. SO we'll just have to be patient, I guess. If by the end of May we don't hear anything about a DLC then its best to figure the team has moved on to the next game. Hopefully resources go to the next rally game and some don't get pulled over to the next GRID. Maybe by the end of 2017 well start getting hints of the next title.

Body is 40 characters too short and fat
-
I haven't seen Paul do to much teasing about a gravel PP so this is either not going to happen or just a big surprise. Maybe thats the mostly part of 'mostly cars'
-
Another Mitsubishi would be nice, but I would only accept the 2005 model with the storage [EDIT: STRANGE] wing setup. I know newer ones had some legendary drivers but I like to see different cars that are not normally in rally games, like the Saab but both might be a pipe dream
