In all seriousness though, I wasn't there for fun and games I actually had a serious job to do, so it's a shame today got cut a little short.

I won't say too much about my time behind the wheel, but I will say that I think everyone will love the Michigan location. I know it got a bit of a slating when it was announced, but it's such a fast high speed location, it's a really intense but enjoyable challenge.

I'll be honest that I wasn't thrilled by Michigan as a location when it was announced, but having read up on it recently it really does seem to be the centre of North American rallying (3 rounds of Rally America series are held there!). So, whilst there are more significant places in the rallying world, I concede that it does have its place. Footage from DiRT 3 put me off, but done seriously it could be excellent. Are you able to say if it's a summer or autumnal setting (hoping for the latter)?

Interestingly, the first round this year was in Michigan, won by a Mitsubishi Mirage that looks (but isn't) like a close relation of the R5.

Looking forward to seeing your interview (and whatever they were recording last week!).
The screenshots in the Dirt 4 road book show an autumn color palette.

Lake Superior Performance Rally is run in October, so it usually makes for some really nice scenery:

I posted some videos back on page 779 if your interested too.

and here are the stage maps via rally-maps.com

Unfortunately this isn't one of the more unique locations in American rally.  There are a few that are more picturesque.  No matter Your Stage should put together some routes for us to race.

@Rallycameraman btw: are the stages a little narrow?   I hope some are or can be with YS.  Are they even closet to the pick and videos we've posted?

my wooden one cost me about $12 here is what it looks like, sadly cant embed images from google photos for some reason https://goo.gl/photos/RSkh69o7o8VaLPhV8 as you can see its had alot of use

So the handbrake can be plugged in to usb and doesn't need to be plugged into wheel base. Nice job on your handbrake looks good and the price is right  :#
Yes it has a arduino leonardo controlling it, which is overkill for the job but it was the only one i had at the time with built in HID, it uses a hall censor and a magnet to get analog feedback and a strong spring for tension, and yes it has its own usb cable, i have thought about making a metal one to replace it, but it works so well its very low on my list of priorities

Ive never messed with Hall effect senors before, how do you have that setup?  Is it the closer the magnet to the sensor that gives the analog output?  I always thought it was just a on/off output.

    nice work BTW

i may have to try that with a nano

@Rallycameraman you know this makes me happy

** Caution **  Time to whine about replays   **Caution **

After all we know about D4 and replays, it sounds like it is getting a little better than DR.

The one thing that I just plain hate is the switch to internal from a spectator view with most crashes.   Why does this happen, and with improved, well crashes in D4, I hope the switching will no longer happen.  Seems to have been around since D2.  If I have missed something after all this time, please correct me.

Just thought I would vent after playing DR today.  Looking forward to D4 no matter what happens :)
As I've understood there will be more replay options, one that does not switch automatically and that is focusing on road side cams.

That said, I think I'll enjoy the onboards more this time with 1:1 steering animation :)
It would be awesome to have some control over drones.  even if its just height and a little L/R F/B no flying off to where ever, just a little bit of control.  Actually with this alone, there could be so many awesome shots, it would be like Your Road for the camera :).
Imagine placing the drone at ground level with car passing over head (or thru, I don't care) or that perfect turn/drift on a hairpin from 90deg overhead.

  6. In case anyone was wondering, here are some of the RL stages in Michigan:

This one is a bit wider

    Fairly narrow parts
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYtqFHEewbA

There are some really rough ones
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGzaGupA1Bc

These are all from Lake Superior Performance Rally, in Houghton Michigan, its one of the National Events.

DiRT3 used the rather famous Quincy Mine in the town, there has never been a Rally stage at that site.  Similarly the concrete towers that you race around  in D3, is a former Nike/Apache missile defense system that is spread around the country in the 50's (in case the Soviets flew planes with Nukes into the country, scary times then), again as far as I know there are none of these in the RL stages there.  Of course this made the stages more interesting in D3.

Put me in my place if need be but why would you not be able to use the handbrake if you press the clutch?
If I understand correctly, the problem is not the connection from the wheels to the gearbox/engine (if so, clutch would have solved it indeed) but rather the fact that the front and rear wheels are connected. So as soon as you would pull the handbrake all four wheels would stop, as the fronts would be connected to the rears. I think.

I would imagine the handbrake in the DiRT tech has a strength variable, or at least some way to disable it. Would be cool if the B cars have no handbrake at least in the simulator mode.
You can unbind the handbrake if you want to roleplay being Michèle Mouton :p
    Already preparing for it!
    Lipstick?

  8. @KickUp here's a question that I haven't seen much about:  With Your Stage are there still different areas of the same location other than say just picking Australia or Wales and generates from that area, or do we have the option to pick different areas (forest, desert.. etc) Australia.  I mean places with names, not generic like desert, exactly.  If im being clear.

Hope Citroën can step it up. Craig Breen's post rally interview says it all, the car just isn't as good as it should be. Hope they can dial it in and fix whatever it is that's not quite right.

But Latvala.. He really showed that the Yaris can be fast today. I wonder if Neuville would've been able to keep up with his pace today. Looking real interesting for the championship. But I do hope that Neuville manages to bring home some podium places now so that he can get in the championship. A fourway fight between Neuville, Ogier, Tänak and Latvala would be great for the sport.
Any sport is better when their is no clear winner or dominate team.  Although its someones job, ultimately sports are here for entertainment.

  10. Ok, first year with WRC+ and I am a bit confused.  Im in the USA (if you don't know by now) and right now it is showing live stages are still and hour away from streaming.  Very little info on for today Saturday, other than maps.

Where are you guys getting your info from?  Videos?  Youtube channel?  Or just twitter, till things are posted up on WRC+?

All these years, I've used youtube highlights as my info, besides this board. This year I'm trying to follow it day by day now.

Pleasantly surprised by the pace of the Toyota: as a car that many (including myself!) thought was underdeveloped, it doesn't seem to be lacking pace in the snow.

Six stages in and it's looking close at the front: great stuff!
Im in love with the sound.  Looks?  Hey, im not that shallow, its the personality that counts.  ;)

sometimes i even cry at movies.

Fast and furios movies make me cry... they are so awful, lol

  12. I can see PSVR as a whole doing well.  However the Vive/Occulus, I think are having a hard time.

There is quite an investment in the headset $500 + is just beyond that threshold for many, also you have to have a decent PC to run it properly.  BestBuy over here isn't selling much and they are taking their Occulus Demo stations out of some stores, due to lack of interest, but I think that is BestBuy's fault, appointments to try???? really??

I really really want this tech to take off, but its once again the chicken/egg syndrome between dev support and headset sales.

So jealous of you all who are able to drive rally in real life. Being a poor student, this image describes my current situation in terms of rally driving:

Try and get a VR headset. It's bloody awesome. Closes you'll get to the feeling of the real thing
Really?  Its THAT good @Rallycameraman ?  I 've never tried VR since it seems so low res, used brother-in-law's GearVR it was nice, but I have no baseline for a PC game.

Just saw this one now, nice interview to read:

    https://twitter.com/Kick_Up/status/829395500621320208

But the most interesting question, IMO, was this one:

LMSA : Will you model Luke Harvey’s Peugeot 106 GTI in DiRT 4? Do you have any future projects as co-driver or as driver ?
    PC :
Sadly not, we have introduced the Peugeot 205 GTI as there are probably more of those used in junior competitions than the 106. I’m hoping to do some more co driving with Luke or Jon Tucker later this year or early in 2018. Hopefully I can get a few more finishes because I’m hoping to upgrade to an International FIA Navigator license soon.

Sadly we won't see @Rallycameraman Peugeot, but @KickUp plans for the International FIA Navigator license sounds awesome!

Now that's seriously cool they asked about that! Perks of having Paul in the car I guess  :D

hoping he'll be back in with me for a rally in May :)

Serious rally cred, there, Luke :)
