  1. I think we can be confident that Codies will license every car that makes sense for variety and budget.   We have to remind ourselves (me included) that DiRT is very different from games like Forza,   Cars in any of the Dirt games, get just about destroyed, parts have to fly off and crunch up.  That is not a typical scenario that a manufacturer wants to show off thier brand, like they do in other games.  Im sure its an uphill battle and Codies is pretty uncompromising when it comes to cars getting banged up.  So kudos to everyone involved getting what we have.

  2. Since D4 includes Dirtfish rally school i think this is a good read about tires:

I'm quite surprised about the WRC License. I already said many times, i'm not a fan of "re-skinned" games, every year, and where there's no development freedom... but depends of the deal.

I, most likely, would buy a WRC game, made by Paul and all team, with DR/D4 handling, with historic Rally cars/ eras ( Group B, Group A, etc ) and with the Track Tool to keep me busy, after memorising all the reall Stages... but would i buy this "same" game every year? Probably not... Unless the game would be "re-invented" every year, to keep things interesting and fresh.

I imagine that most of Community would be very happy to see Codies getting the WRC License, there's bazillions of posts, around the Web, asking them for that to happen, but how many of them would keep buying the game, year after year, if it was always the "same" game?

I like Koolaid, so yes i would buy it every year.

  4. I dont have the time to dig thru the comments, but is Monte and Finland licensed as well?   Pikes peak is 'sort of' a private road, I believe the tolls are collected are for profit.

However the others (Monte & Finland) are public roads, correct?  Here in the USA public is considered owned buy the public, so no need to license.

Please no politics (i've had enough already elsewhere), just wondering if this applies to other countries or did i misread @KickUp 's comment?

@KickUp I saw on the AMA you mentioned driver portraits (and it looks like there are at least three different driver faces in the screenshots released so far)—will that include male and female faces?
    Yup
That's awesome, thanks! My 4-y/o loves playing the female biker in Burnout Paradise, but I have to get her into rally. A girl driver and pink livery might do it.
Hell, when D4 come out, you choose the car I'll do the livery to your little girl ;) (Princesses and poneys are the best xD)
Ken Block's wife sometimes rallys.  This was the livery that she used once:

As much as I love the sound of a good NA engine, turbos provide us with the sweet sound of  both anti-lag and turbo flutter, so I am afraid I have to protest at your ban.
Nothing like standing in a wet field, waiting for first car due, and hearing the faint crack of anti-lag breaking the silence, from 2 miles away....

Yeah, but the problem is, I think, that in most scenario's in game, the car is so close to the camera that the actual direct sounds are louder than the reverb sounds. Or are the reverb sounds also overwhelming the direct car sounds when you're standing just a couple of meters from the car in real life?
Thats exactly it.  Here's a camera hack replay, it showcases the sound mix better than original

Here is another that i think shows it off quite nicely too

    Its beautiful to the ears!

And yes, i think a lot of the sound is already there, its only the cameras fault.

Personally i would turn it up more in forest stages, especially antilag and backfires could bumped, but thats MY opinion.

Hello thanks for all the answers, I have a question regarding online multiplayer.
Will we be racing sumultaniously waiting for the others to start, and if so will the track surface get influenced by the cars upfront? And what form of competition does the ladder involve?

It will be simultaneous but we won't have staggered starts.

Simulating surface degradation and running order is on my wishlist but I don't think it is achievable for DiRT 4
Sounds like the next DiRT (5) is shaping up to be a great game.
     :P

(Paul probably has a Voodoo doll of me with many needles in it).

  9. @versedi  Your the man that would know outside the DiRT Team :)

@KickUp Still would like Boost output.

Also are the plans for the Marshall at the beginning of the stage to do the typical hand count down?  I don't know if this universal in rally, but stage notes over here have an OK page in the back that the co-driver would typically hold up when the car is disabled.  This is really, really minor, but again, thought it is worth asking.

  10. @kickup currently there is some info output via udp for various hardware devices.  It seems like F1 has a lot more, some is the nature of the sim (tire temp. etc), will there be a possibility of adding to the info for D4?  Two in particular:  Boost and more Stage info, like length and split times.  As always more info output the better.

Of course this is minor stuff, but just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

    @KickUp

    - There will be any " unique Pace Notes"? Like ex: Co-Driver yelling at us when we crash, or congratulating us when we beat a Stage Time... That kind of stuff. If yes, please make sure they will only play once in awhile, or they won't be "unique" anymore.

    - Apart from Competitors crashed on the side of the Stage, there will be any Wild Life ( or any other kind of Random Events ) crossing the Stages? This kind of litle ( big ) details is what makes the immersion even bigger, me thinks :p

Thank you so much for all the answers to all of us, really appreciated :)

There are some bits of information that the co-driver will relay to you sometimes before the start of a stage.

Maybe when we crash we just hear a lot of beeps from Jen or Nicky , or as Travis Pastrana famously asked his codriver 'are you dead?' Repeatedly

  12. We will have the DirtFish school grounds to test and tune our setups too.  So outside of the time/trial and error to find what performs well we should be able to work out the details.  Too bad the trails area of DirtFish isn't available it would help tuning on the gravel stages, i think we only are getting the main buildings area.  @KickUp is this correct?

Engine Sound Reverb  When the car goes from the open into the forest, it would be nice to get that loud engine noise reverberation off the trees and hills you get on real rallies (those sounds still haunt me)  A tricky one I know, but nice if it can be done.

I'm pretty sure it was already done in DR. Mostly hearable in replays from outside camera.
Can confirm, a low level of reverb is inside DiRT Rally already, the narrowest roads on Monte have it and some other individual moments, maybe one or two cliffs on Greece. Purely on gameplay with chase cam at least, don't think i've heard it in replays yet.

I might be talking out of my butt due to mistranslating what i know as "reverb" tho :D

OK, this is what I mean by "Reverb" this is the best example I can find, crank those speakers and listen when the car is out of sight, this is the glorious sound of a BDA on Webbers.  Hearing the Group 4 cars sounding like this at 3am in the middle of the forest on the Welsh and Lombard RAC rallies back in the 70"s & 80"s will haunt me as long as I live !

@soundfx   I think we've discussed this in the past, would you like to comment?

IRL i get that same feeling, the hairs on my neck standing up!  I've always wanted to be able to plant a camera in the game, and just hear the car in a distance thru the forest.  Its a real rush!

  14. Regarding the new codriver voices:  Something that I did like in D3 were some of the remarks she said when you wrecked.  It happens in real life, mostly on the negative/cursing side, but a wise a$$ remark is better for the kiddies.

Anyhow just like much of the polishing we are seeing in D4, this too would give the person next to you a little more life (Paul was very conservative in DR :)  Hopefully this will return in D4 without making it too childish.
