If @justbiglee was still around, he'd be throwing some stuff. I think he started this "Mondays be like.." Rally stuff, at least it sounds like hime -
Nothing wrong with friendly competition, but don't copy marketing exactly. Thats just lame.

I am sure there are some areas that the artist doesn't want completely optional, I imagine it starts to take away from the intended look.urgaffel said:
You give an inch, they take an arm... ;) But yeah, more options are always better. No promises though :Pversedi said:
Well, that escalated quickly :) Obviously, more separation the better.RyuMakkuro said:
Given that the shaders option seems like a bunch of post-processing effects rather than one, I would prefer if I could adjust every single one of them separately rather than having most of them bunched together with only motion blur being separated out.versedi said:It would be definetely cool to separate it in the next game. I'm disabling it too because it's exaggerated, too bad the shaders can't be left on high while lowering or turning off the motion blur. -
I was mostly talking about replays where Depth of Feild is way way over exaggerated for my tastes. it looks like vaseline there for sure.
For cockpit views its ok for me, but true triple screen support would elimate some of this, i think.
Check these last few posts off for wishlist items for D4 or DR2, they all just need to be updated now (replay) after 10 years of the same, i think CM has got thier money out of it :) by now. -
I am pretty happy with the graphics, except the DOF stuff, I wish there was a way to turn it off, it looks TOO blurry and no real boke.JZStudios said:
I get that, but there's been smaller teams who've done more impressive things. iRacing at the very least is continuously bringing in a good chunk of pocket change. And they haven't changed graphically in a while. I think recently they claimed to go PBR or something, but I'm not sure I believe that. It doesn't look any different. It's just kind of goofy because eventually the engine limitations are widely known but they don't bother to fix them. Not that you CM guys are lazy, but the Ego engine is definitely aging and the limitations cut a lot of wanted features, though I'm also assuming you guys have people working on it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯urgaffel said:
Speaking as a game dev I can answer that to some extent.JZStudios said:///
I don't see why the sim racing world hasn't progressed graphically since 2003. All the "modern" racing sims look about the same as Live For Speed, which was made by like 3 people, in 2003. So why hasn't there been any change on the graphical front? Why can't the next sim look like Battlefront? I mean, if they're actually laser scanning everything, that's even better than photogrammetry, all they need is a decent material and lighting system, along with a more beefed up well optimized engine to handle larger amounts of geometry. AC at the very least is horribly optimized, and I get all sorts of micro stutters and it never feels smooth, even at 100+fps, whereas PCars feels like butter by comparison with 45FPS. Sim racing needs a kick in the ass.
This has nothing to do with Codies, it's just a general observation about development;
The problem is that making things pretty takes time and costs money and most of the sim teams seem to be quite small compared to "normal" AAA game dev teams. If you have a limited budget, a small team and you're aiming for a top quality sim racing then the physics and handling are always going to be higher priority than the graphical whizbangs of the day.
It is actually quite hard to make something look good and also run well. Even if you do laser scans you still have a lot of work to do to clean up the data and get something usable out of it. And if you do spend a lot of money to make it pretty, you need to make sure you can recoup the investment by selling a lot of copies. The consequence: the game maker is in the tricky position of having a niche product that cost a lot to make and have to sell a lot in order to keep the studio from going under and one way to reach a broader market is to be less niche but then you end up moving away from the sim idea you had in the first place. Congratulations, you're now trapped between a rock and a hard place :)
Easier to just keep the graphics functional and focus on the handling and driving experience and not spend all your money on the art side of things!
I just don't understand why some devs continually release essentially the same game time and time again with the same engine and faults.
However, I wish they would overhaul the replay system, there are a lot of beautiful details in DR that you cannot capture with the canned replay, and not being able to save them via the sim.. ugh.
Anyhow, just throwing that out there. -
I still predict a December timeframe announcement, or after the first of the year.
EDIT: I mean next game, not DLC
Unless this is ran like Assetto Corsa with on going development and DLC released over a long period of time, none of this is going to happen this late (but i keep thinking like a PC iwner, you console guys just got it recently)
BTW: i am all for an Assetto Corsa game model, with a ling and ongoing development. With the amount of car licenses they have now, it seems they are making a good bit off the game to afford these. So the business model seems to work. Unless they are 'connected' Italians :) and know how to motivate people :) -

@tbtstt oops! sorry, bud -

Ditto! I found the stupid driver comments during the races in DiRT 2 incredibly irritating, far more than any content in DiRT 3 (apart from Christian Stephenson).JZStudios said:which confuses me when everyone says block ruined 3, when him and Pastrana where heavily prominent in 2.
The origins of the gymkhana videos are mentioned in the interview that I posted earlier. Given that the first video was almost completely happenstance, it's pretty incredible to see how viewed the series is now. At this point they are perhaps a little repetitive but, much like his career, I admire Block for getting paid to thrash highly modified AWD cars around in public!
I think it was a latter Drive interview (or possibly elsewhere) where Block mentions that he isn't fan of the public exposure, but it's a necessary evil to get the backing that he does. He has also mentioned that, as stage rally doesn't draw as much exposure, he has to do other things in order to get the backing for the limited stage rallies that he participates in.

Not fond of the host, but decent questions.
I did have a short conversation with him at a rally a couple of years back, nice guy answered my questions respectfully. I Also watched him at a service stop, he waved at the fans, talked to trch, and grabbed his kids and hugged them, his wife was waiting at the door of the travel trailer with food.
This didnt appear as an act, it was just nice a quick glimps at family life. The guy puts a lot on his plate to do what he loves, but to do that there are a lot marketing relationships he has to satisfy, Dubai was just a place he wanted to make a cool video, there is a sponcer relationship there.
Since he isnt a WRC legend he actually has to work pretty hard behind the scenes to keep the business running. No discredit to any WRC driver, but in the US there isnt a club rally organization to rise through and train for the WRC as there is in EU. Its amazing that he has been able to compete at all coming from here.

Didn't you know that a drivers names in front of the game title always guarantees a quality product? Like Sebastien Loeb Rally. :wink:Porkhammer said:
Don't see the point of putting rally drivers' names ahead of game titles, myself.gfRally said:Just for conversation I thought I would throw this out, Since Kris Meeke destroyed Finland this weekend, and Is having his best season. Would it be right for Codies to consider "Kris Meeke: DiRT Rally 2" for thir next Rally Game? Sure there are other Legends of rally out there, but id think McRae would approve approve of him.
It could be named from the OTHER Sebastian, but after each stage they would have to have a lot of whining, to make it correct :pensive: -

So what does everyone think about my idea? I think it would make for an interesting career addition. -
RallyDriven said:I've said before but I personally loved gymkhana, mainly the playground rather than the actual events though. Also, the online mini games were incredibly good fun, my friends and I spent many nights playing cat and mouse, transporter and infected. Whilst there not for everyone, they can help increase the games longevity, and keep the online going
I never messed around with the online stuff in D3, so my opinion may be swayed if I did.
Part, just like others have said, is that it was forced in career mode so I never completed the career.
However even if they wouldn't make it an official instructor by your side rally school, it would be great if it where done like Richard Burns with challenges at a school. Tgat way it's not just an open environment area, but you have motivation to go there.
Maybe this could give you licenses or somehow allow you acceptance into different car classes, not to go far from realism. Is there some licensing that you need over there to qualify for rally?
Anyhow this COULD be the best of both, a free roam area to play and a goal driven instructional area to earn stuff. It would make it a bit more serious though. Not sure if a SIM would have a virus play mode, even though it sounds loads of fun.

I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely provided some enjoyment for a short period of times. Which would be a great thing if instead of the boring loading screen, we had an option (keyword, OPTION) to do the Gymkhana thing on some abandoned factory or what not. Kind of like the practice games that FIFA has for their pre-match loading screens.JZStudios said:
But Gymkhana was fun.
A big wish list item was rally school. Personally would love to see Dirtfish represented since they have such a unique and interesting looking playground there. Could be a cool hybrid tarmac gravel area to just skid around for practice and car control. -
odd number to celebrate a release
https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/757878141851361280
this is like @justbiglee used to do, I wonder if there is a hidden motive to the post?
I sure as **** hope it's nothing to do with gymkhana returning -
I just don't see at this point it that it would add that much longevity to DR. Us PC guys had it for a year, and have pretty much played the heck out of the locations we have. Can they give us 5 more to hold us over till next title is out?tbtstt said:
You think the announcement is definitely going to be for a new title rather than something additional for DiRT Rally?gfRally said:

Now this is a proper bit of gossip. Fingers crossed for some big news soon!Rallycameraman said:
The storm might be closer than you think.
Anyway, today after nearly 2 months, I make my return to DiRT
EDIT: one more point, if they add more locations now, what would there be for the next title.
There are only so many people assigned to a given game and DLC now would only take away from a new titles content (production time). We all have debated over this many times, but resources are resources.
Also talked about before, is tech. If new tech is introduced, then everything has to be updated (ie the elusive Terrain deformation). If there is no new tech, I think it would be like they are not progressing.
So I think there are a lot of factors that a whole new title will be next, and maybe announced by Dec 2016. It's all trying to get in @KickUp and Management's head to guess what is next.
I do not see a bombshell like we had an announcement/ea of DR, that was historic.
These are just opinions, and trying to use some common sense.
EDIT. typed on my phone before, had to clean up some autocorrect and typos -

Great, and we all can chip in for sponsorship so you can share.RallyDriven said:Now I'm going to have to buy my own rally car and convince Paul to sit with me -
I don't know how interesting the stages are, but China would be a nice place to revisit.
I would add a single Rally America event, but I get stoned (with rocks) mentioning it. -

Just going to leave this here...So, Twitter - we have a question! And it's an interesting one too... If you could add one feature to DiRT Rally, what would it be?

I voted for more locations (gravel) if that ain't going to happen, then just give us the dev feature of free cam -
This is exactly what I think DR needs plus a little CM3 atmosphere.dwkGravey said:but after getting to name my team, design my own livery, pick my sponsors, choose my teammate, and fill my garage, it's hard not to miss that.
