  1. I'm a bit nuts and OCD, but getting ahold of the spectator guide as early as possible and studying the map, planing your route time, studying YouTube videos of what each point looks like, etc etc.  pretty much become the insane co driver for the day, sorry @kickup no offense, but you have to plan all your times/transits to precision, almost like I do (just to watch)

somewhere a grammar teacher died reading this post ;)

  2. Here is something to consider, everyone is right about game dev time.

Outside of F1 2016, what major title are they going to release this year or early next?

There has to be something cooking in south hamton
    Grid3?

If there is a Grid3, they share some people with the Dirt Team, so who knows what that could mean.

We’ve been told it takes codies a long time to completely create a stage, and although we had a nice stream of new locations in the EA period, we know they had been in development for a year or two on top of that. My thought is that if they are planning to release a sequel of some form in 2 years or so, they likely wont be able to create more than 5 ish new locations.

So I can see why they may want to save any they make for the next title rather than releasing a new location as dlc in 6-8 months, to then receive the backlash from players/press for “reusing most of the content and only having 4 new locations”

Personally I would rather have recycled stages as well if it means more stages, but I know a lot of people would get upset about having minimal new content in a new title.

Old content with new tech would be fair, but it would be hard not to still know the stages even with changes

  4. It wouldn't really have to be truly dynamic, as you would never see what the other cars have done. The only time true dynamic changes would be requires would be if it incorporated something like dirt 3's online staggered starts. As you say, all you would need is some kind of system that implements varying levels of ruts onto a stage depending on your starting position. And on tarmac stages you could have areas where mud (or snow in monte) has been brought onto the insides of corners where cars are taking cuts.

Staggerd starts should be based on your some sort of lottery for position.  Whatever is real, or for gameplay purposes.

If you are first there would be no ruts, lines, and similar .  you now would have deal with being the rabbit with no lines to follow, and the challenges that come with that, like less grip in corners.

Like you said, really hard turns with buildup is really all that is needed and would be real.  But maybe an occasional random  rut where there is a an off.

There could be a soft rut over the entire stage to simulate you being farther back in the run. This would be a second copy pre-made stage.  Possibly a couple textures showing others lines, similare to skidmarks like we have now, but dont dissapear .

Another random addition determined by your position could be time of day and weather.  Weather could be rain approacing, or the event/location having an exceptionally dry period, were position would cause visibility differences (i.e. heavy dust in finland)

What do you all think, would this add enough random challenge for replay-ability?

  5. In short, the next game will take the basis left behind from dirt rally. it may be a sequel, it may be something a bit unique and different, but it will take forward the ideas from dirt rally. There was mention of early new handling being developed that already made dirt rally look 'old school'. Paul also mentioned increased production value of the game, so I'm guessing they will get the budget to produce something with the exterior qualities of previous dirt games, such as a more detailed career, soundtracks, menus and everything else. Which is one thing that I think Dirt rally misses slightly.
Great news, except this part: "it may be a sequel, it may be something a bit unique and different". Call me paranoid if you wish, but maybe we're not getting another rally game this next time around?
I think Rally in some form is part of the DiRT DNA but it may be more Rally Raid (Dakar/Baja) with FiA:WRX.  I love rally and would really really like to see a DR2 ++ but if they give us trucks next time around with current physics and a lot of features like we have wished for in DR, that will be fine for me too.

BUT honestly I would like a sequel with a upgraded engine, upgraded damage/mechanical, as a base that is solid and move it to a PCars type of content, where new stuff is released every 6 weeks or so.  I'd even pay into a alpha program like WMD PCars just for something to do and play around with as it progresses.

If they state up-front that here is the base content (enough for money well spent) then DLC the H**L out of it, I'd gladly pay (adding Trucks then).  I don't have piles of $$ laying around, this is my hobby and its a pretty cheap on in comparison to many.  At the end of the year I spent $100+, I'm good with that, as long as I get a game with more than a years worth of playability, which DR is starting to stretch that now.

Really the ONLY direction they could go that would honestly disappoint me, is Quads/Bikes.  I know they are part of Raid in RL, but I have never seen a good way to simulate a bike experience outside of an arcade type of plastic bike where you can lean, etc.  Besides, I am just not interested in playing with bikes.  This is just my opinion, and many may want it.

  6. All I hope for with what ever comes next is hoping they have enough cashflow to go after some licensing and or deals like they did with WRX.  Baja/Dakar/Mint 400/Prerunners all would be a nice expansion or DiRT4 like game.  I would like to see some trucks with the new physics and new graphics bits.   And just do it right, like DR, all the base is there, just branch out.

  7. I think Luke's just messing with us :(

Actually i think it's more related to his not-fake rallying :)
Nope I'm genuinely not messing. Its like when we were being teased by Lee, it has come full circle once more :)
Well, it must be big in some way or you wouldn't even tease.  But if you start with that 4 thing or 128, I'll personally swim over there and shove a keyboard up your arse  AND then I'll pay @MastaVonBlasta wire it up from there xD

  8. I guess I end up always posting a bunch of questions, I'm not going to stop with this gossip!  It maybe too early since Sony very recently 'dumped' Evolution Studios.  But here goes..

Will the team be integrated into current teams, or will they reform their own team to work on separate titles?
What about their track record with Drive Club, great game, but terrible launch.
Has DR and F1 really pumped a lot of $$ into Codies?  I have my doubts about F1 sales, also seems early with DR sales just coming in.
How big of a change is this going to effect future titles? good/bad?

I don't like discussing or gossiping about CM financial state, but with the downsizing of about 18months ago, I think its a interesting topic.

If they are to be integrated into current teams and bring their tech over to share, then this could be a very cool thing!  We all have discussed the EVO engine needing updated with some modern(?) features (cough cough REPLAYS - selfish want).  Drive Club had some pretty awesome tech in it and the artists made it even better.  It will be cool to see how this pans out.

These questions are probably NOT going to be answered by CM, nor should they really, but I think this thread is the place to talk about it.

Still kinda wished the game supported proper clutchless shifting as most of the H-pattern cars uses dog boxes. Sure you can set the transmission without clutch but the time penalty is too big.
I do too, but how would you do it and still have the sim understand the difference between doing it on purpose (clutchless) and accidentally missing a shift?
