Vaguely DiRT related, but a few pictures from the second round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden a couple of weeks ago. Includes a few familiar cars to DiRT Rally players...

If any of you are interested!

@tbtstt  As always great pix, and very jealous you get to do this for a living

  2. I have often made the comment why this car was not playable at Pike Peak, there must be some really odd licenses required from Ford.  Maybe because its modified.

PP wouldnt feel quite so empty? if we had more than 4 cars.  Not that Im complaining, it woud just add to it.

Personally i would like to see a couple of less aggressive cars to run up, like a subaru or something.

Didnt mean to sound like a rant, more of a curiosity

  3. Please no opinions about financial/business reasons, only thinking about design reasons.

    Question:

Do we really care more about diffrent color pallets over locations?  If two places look similar, does that mean only one should be picked?  Isn't there something different about each location?  Could different looking stages be picked from locations that have similar pallets?

    Gossip? ;)

Oh no its the "some future title" line all over again.. Well at least we can be assured that Codies can put out a very good Rally game now.  Hope management knows the high bar has been set, both for communication (ea) and realism.

Any future titles hopefully live up to up to the simulation standards that has been set.

Hey! Page 500 of the Gossip thread! I feel like we deserve a reward.
500 pages of joy, grief and everything between that <3
500 pages of off-topic ramblings, nonsensical hypotheses and car-name arguments #S1E22B
And yet this thread is legendary enough that its refered to in every live show.  Also the name of the forums on PS4 if im not correct, but that will never be the origional (here)

Check this video. Like author said, They look pretty damn identical . LOL

Someone that is not looking at the gameplay or physics so much and just comparing raw data/graphics says a lot for Codemasters.  It sounds like DOING THE PC VERSION FIRST, testing over here, getting it right, then do the best port possible.  This is defiantly the right formula.  I am extremely biased :)

Besides we like to gloat how good it is and torture you guys on consoles, though it lost its fun (like a cat) after so long.  xD

  7. One thing we have to remember about race cars, and more so rally cars.  There are so many changes that can be made event to event.  If parts are shy a 5 speed could be swapped for a 6 and visa versa at an event.  Same with anti-lag can be 'tuned' even in at a service area.  Just like brakes/suspension/tires.  These can all very with supplies, damaged turbos, etc.

I know for a fact, that Ken Block has his Fiesta tuned so that fuel is dumped so that backfires throw larger than usual flames, same goes with antilag.  I would thing this is part of the antilag tuning so, whatever, but I heard this straight from his mechanic at a US rally.

So from car to car the same model can sound differently.  Even air density can change the sound and the way a car runs.

Anyhow, there are obvious cosmetic things, but engine and mechanical change all the time.

Since the subject has been brought up, @kickup is there a reason that we don't hear much transmission whine?  There has been mention that certain mechanics haven't been modeled that sound can tie into properly, is this true for the transmission?  Its no issue for me but in some cars transmission whine is pretty dominate in real life.

  8. @KevM i would guess this will be a wait and see thing.  If the console community crys for it then it may be worth while.

I always wanted a lot more smoke/dust/dirt flying when you crashed at the right time, especially rolling the car.  Bumper covers coming off or hanging loose easier at least.

  9. @dgeesi0

please dont lump his "style" with all of us Americans

Despite what some of the media makes the world believe.  Most are not loudmouth nascar watching rednecks.

Sorry for bringing it up, kudos to this guy for making a living how he does.  He just irritates me.

I guess i need to go back to my anger management group.  Aaaarrrgh!?!

Not gossip as such, but an extended interview with Paul Coleman about the console release up on IGN:

    http://uk.ign.com/articles/2016/03/17/no-compromise-on-quality-for-dirt-rally-on-ps4-xbox-one

There is some gossip there.  It seems that the future is still unknown.  As much as we all have supported the game and team, there are still bean counters involved.  However, they are there to make sure the company stays afloat and turns profit, we just hope they have some heart in DR too.

The big reality hit for me is the mention of future EA, there is a chance that this will be the last time we could be involved in this capacity.  Again, I understand the reasoning @kickup stated.  If there is not a need to release it into EA, no need to complicate the extra work that EA involves with a release schedule and the headaches.

No matter, I really really hope that it turns out they would be able to move onto a DiRT Rally 2.  This game should not be a one-off but a model for more RALLY titles coming from Codies.

I will probably repeat myself in the future until we have a confirmation of the future path.

  12. Talking bout RX. Automobilista has the best RX i've seen. :open_mouth:
I like thier trucks, but just like Assetto, the handling is really good, but the graphics are just meh.

We are really spoiled with DR, pretty close sim experience with excellent graphics and sound.  Such a cool place to be.

  13. @BadD0g @austinb

I completely understand what you guys are saying and I do agree.

I think you misread what I was saying about WRC in the US, I meant if RA could attract a WRC class driver to compete in the series, it would make an interesting season.  Not expecting anyone named Sebastien  , but who competes in WRC, maybe somebody that lost their ride and has contacts to back a season here.

I know very well that a WRC event will never come back to America.  The laws, insurance and peoples fears are beyond comprehension here.

I hope I wasn't coming across as whining.  I have pretty much given up hope that DR and beyond would include any US location outside of Pikes Peak, and I am ok with that.  My therapist says its good to move on..

    @Darhour diversity? How so?

Im to short for my body
Diversity was mainly implied in the whole paragraph I typed.
Unfortunately we have the same problem here: dominated by Higgins as of late, most of the top guys run Subarus (now).

Block made it competitive, the 2013 season was the most exciting since the 2007/2008 seasons IMHO.

The 2wd class is a 'diverse' mix of cars and drivers winning.

I love my home events and the Rally events over here in general.  But without attracting other manufacturers and possibly a WRC driver or two, the top Open class is going to get boring for the drivers and spectating.

We have very small market with very little exposure.  It's one of the reasons why I used to be very vocal about having more US locations and Rally America involved (in addition to Europe) in DiRT Rally, to expose more people here in the US to Rally and get the word out.

Be be glad you have the WRC (and ERC) over there, don't take it for granted, it's still relevant no matter at least there are many manufacturers competing, despite the same driver winning.
