  1. I'll still watch GRC only for Subarus (dismal) involvement.

It will be interesting what Higgins will show up with at 100 acre woods, this year.  Subarus stage rally sometimes hints at thier RX program.

I wish Subaru had a program developed enough to compete in WRX, but that's a very steep mountain to overcome with thier current performances.

  2. The series is broadcast live on WRX site, correct?  Also, if it is live, is there a recording for viewing later?  With the huge time difference over here, they tend to fall at odd hours.  Hoping to watch every race this year, if only FIA would make some sort of deal with a US network to broadcast.

  3. Since this applies to the "confusing" part of the topic.  There was a lot of questions and accusations about the current Subaru R4, if it was taken out of the R4 category and allowed to be a proper WRC version.  It would look like this:

Pointing out the big wing!  Paul was quoted that it was the old Rally America version, which isn't entirely true.  The 2008 RA version (Proper name VS2008) indeed used the lower profile factory wing.  It wasn't until 2009 did they adopt (acquire?) the WRC wing, probably were leftovers from Subarus WRC exit.

BTW:  All Vermont Sportscar ID their cars with VSyear or VSXyear for RallyX

  4. I'm pretty convinced that what we will have after April, is the final chapter of DR.  Anything new will be for a future title.

It it does make a difference in what we could see in the next title if these where members of the DiRT art team, making a visit with some promotion stopd along the way.

A good question is, why would they take DiRT Rally to a Australian rally school for a marketing exploit?  A rather limited audience for the BIG Release push coming in April.

  5. @tbtstt due to the lack of real cars that have ran full pavement at pikes peak, it would have been cool to add that car to the lineup.

I really wish they would have been able to add some of the modified "big wing" cars from Dirt2 as this would have been the proper event where you would see cars like these.

I like PP a lot, but it would be fun to [R]un in a little tamer of a car than out right group b type of cars, if not just for variety.

Hopefully PP will be a reoccurring guest in future titles.

it probably wont be but wont be far off. the guy who build that isnt the usual garage mechanic. hes a professional and if you see the build you will understand.

250,000 for kens car still is alot. you could get better cars for the budget and cars that would appreciate more in value.

at end of day its all preference. id have for my money a subaru someone else would have a audi someone else would have kens car.nothing wrong with that.
I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on that one @dgeesi0. Don't get me wrong, I've been following the Fiesta build for almost four years now (check page 61!), I know how much thought has gone into the car and I absolutely love what he has done... but just read the specs for the HFHV. The components that are listed are top end; as already said the transmission and engine are basically the best that money can buy plus the car itself has been refined by a professional motorsport team after countless test sessions and competitive outings.

I do agree that £250,000 is a lot though, especially as I think the car will require some significant changes to run in any European Championships. Having said that, it's a bit of motoring history in that it's the Gymkhana 5 car.
who said it was coming to Europe anyhow??? :P  Seriously, I hope someone over hear buys it and runs it in America, Higgins could use some competition, and its almost making it boring like Loeb winning all the time.

  7. cough cough, terrain deformation...    Like I mentioned once, before it turned into a debate.  @KickUp said its important, and its on the KINGS wish list.  Lets hope there is some form of this in a future title, it would really add to the challenge of running the same stage over and over.

Not gossip, but I finally got my sim rig finished after 2 months!  Haven't played DR with a wheel since before R4 cars where released.

Just want ant to comment how great this sim has shaped up to be, the snow feels just right.
Oh, so I take that means you'll be working on that chase camera mod?

In any case, it's good to know another soul can properly enjoy DR :D

I actually think another guy has done what I was trying to accomplish, mostly.  Look on racedepartment for no inside camera mod, I'll post a link when I get home later.

EDIT:  here is link (replay can mod). http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/replay-cam-mod-no-onboards.8565/updates

Just looked back at my first pic, YIKES! I started my sim rig project way back in October 8th, ouch

  9. Not gossip, off topic, etc... but Im totally gutted and shocked to hear

As bad as life can be, pressure, sickness, depression.  You can always find help and support from family and others.  "Be brave" and take a positive step.  If you are in a deep pit, look up, there is always light, reach for it, grab hold of it.  Never look down in self pity and disgust.... Suicide is not the solution.

Sorry if this is inappropriate post here, I just feel really bad

  10. Reading the Eurogamer article was interesting to say the least...

I had hopes for new rally stages or locations, but at the back of my mind I knew that their development would have had to have started a while back.

On one hand it's good to have it bluntly stated that no DLC is coming... A bit of a shame, because the wait for DiRT Rally was long and the thought of waiting longer for more of the DR awesomeness is a bit sad.

I have to admit I'm a bit worried about the suggestions in the article that Codemasters are now moving on to DiRT 4....

Would they really abandon the vision of DiRT Rally? Can't they really see how it's been received so far? Maybe they need to see how it does sales-wise on consoles.

'While I think it's vitally important that we did what we did with Dirt Rally directly to the core audience first, what I want to do now is take people who are excited by seeing Dirt Rally but a little bit put off by what it means to play it, take them by the hand and lead them into the experience. I'm not talking about dumbing down. I'm talking about taking novice players and making them confident and capable.'

The above is quite cryptic and I honestly don't know what to expect. This just proves I wouldn't make a good games designer :)

'a little bit put off by what it means to play it' - Hmmm?

I'll have to think this over :)

    @MastaVonBlasta

Ok, here is my take on it after reading the article and your post a couple of times now.

There are a couple of pieces that stick out for me.
"From my perspective, a lot of the stuff players have been asking us to do we've managed to achieve," Coleman said. "There's a bunch of stuff they've been asking us to do that's beyond the capabilities of the engine as it stands, and one of those things is a much broader selection of tracks."

"We could create a short-term fix and offer a couple of new locations over the course of a year - don't forget we had the art team creating tracks since [development on Dirt Rally began in] 2012, and we'd front-loaded a lot of stuff - rather than delaying the inevitable we're going to see what changes we can make to the engine so we can deliver the more challenging things we haven't done just yet. So there are no plans for the near future, because we want to fundamentally improve the engine to make something bigger and better."

"I'm not talking about dumbing down. I'm talking about taking novice players and making them confident and capable."

Hopefully everyone can see what I text bolded.

I also have that Survey from a while ago in the back of my mind.  So drawing on that a little, looking at what my <non-rally friends> like to play, some business knowledge and a bit of a level head not let my passion get in the way.   Here is how I see it, they have maxed out the engine with what they have accomplished and doesn't sound like its an easy tweak or upgrade.  Think about what we have been talking about over the last month:  Terrain deformation (just example), longer stages (of course), renamed camera and recording system, and we could all debate about many more.  @kickup has noted on several occasions that different wishlist items are "currently not possible" due to current tech used in the game.  It was mentioned in a livestream about replay cameras that I asked about, and a few others asked for things that had a similar answer that currently the tech isn't in the engine.

Suppose (please no debate, just using an example) they wanted to do Dakar.  1) you will need really long stages to even have the likeliness of this type of rally  2) when you come to the sand, what do you do with it?  How does the engine handle digging into axel deep terrain that deforms and has extremely different and demanding charicteristics from anything we have now.  3) how the heck to you get someone coming from "hey thats a cool box cover" to playing and understanding the sport and ending up enjoying something like Dakar.

This is what I feel they are running into:  Taking the game to the next level with graphics, leaping over (or farther from) the competition, and reaching larger audiences.

    Are you still with me?

The next game from DiRT team is not going to be micro machines rally.  They didn't invest all of this time and research on a physics engine to just abandon it for something that is simple for us Fat Americans to understand. Its about "taking novice players and making them confident and capable", its more about HELPING players to get from say amateur to WRC to Dakar (Loeb's choices) and making that journey not boring for newcomers to rally.

So there is a good future for everyone, unfortunately (NO DLC ) we will have to be patient for some time until that happens, its in good hands.

By the way , could the 208PP be 'That other car' ??

EDIT: question for Dirt Show, is there any hope left for the 2015 WRX STI R4 ?
[jumping up and down, stomping feet] No NO NO, "That other car" can only be a Subaru, I claim to use that first.  :)

Now being serious, Paul used something close, can't remember.

@kickup  Couple of questions for Live show:

Will any of the older events, like Greece been giving a second pass with cinema cameras, more like Finland and Sweden?
Since moving to a console version, has the cockpit steering animations been updated?
Lastly, will there be any DLC after April, has there been a decision made yet?

  12. Pretty cool that they went as far as changing the spectator cars for the all gravel PP, it's that kind of attention to detail that makes me smile.  It all adds to the subliminal atmosphere that sets the tone for the entire event.

It will make a nice contrast to the all asphalt with 208.

Will the 208 be in a class all its own, or will there be competition?
