My input on the current topic: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ More rally games is always good. I wasn't tremendously impressed with Dirt 4 so I'll try not to get excited until after the games are released this time round (sorry, marketing folks!).

I actually absolutely couldn't stand that game, I got it through some humble bundle in 2013 and put no more than 46 minutes into it, it did however make me seek out my CMR2004 disk and play through that again, as well as seek out Newer Dirt Titles and Steering wheel controllers. Strange thing that I hated it so much though, since i'm sure I put an absolute tonn of hours into Trackmania Nations back in the day... Why did you hate it? I started looking at the announcement and a lot of people were talking about how mediocre it would be to release it now, but there's still nothing else on the market that comes close to it. I love Burnout Paradise so much. I love how it feels like the ultimate realization of what I imagined playing with Hotwheels cars as a kid, with the city being designed for the express purpose of messing around with cars. The cars aren't real but they do all of the Cool Car Stuff™ that a kid would think of - they shift gears forever with no top gear just because shifting sounds cool, they all backfire because it looks cool, and they crash gratuitously because it looks good in slow motion.

I personally really like Wales in Dirt 4 though, while some others do not.  Maybe has something to do with how well people are adapting to the cars behavior transitioning between the extreme downhill and uphill corners(it feels like the maximum decline and incline angles are much greater in Dirt 4). That's one of the reasons I don't like Wales in Dirt 4 - the inclines seem so ridiculously steep that it really takes me out of it. I've never been to Wales so I can't say if it's realistic or not, but it seems really overexaggerated.

He says on the website that it could theoretically be made to work with different games that support modding besides AC. Not sure what better options there might be, but I'd be happy to use it with BeamNG :)

Why do devs even do CG trailers? The CG wasn't that great, and in a racing game it's entirely unnecessary anyways. This did nothing but make me question why it isn't at least in engine.. "Hey everyone, look at our new game!*" *Not actual in-game footage

I believe it's origin was in the UK, but it's big in the Far East now. There were also references to the cigarettes in the number plates for the Group A cars: The use of "555" is obvious, but "BAT" is British American Tobacco, who own the 555 brand. Back to Deus Ex and I really enjoyed HR. The boss fights did seem a bit out of place, but they didn't ruin the game for me. I haven't touched the original game for years and, given that I have fond memories of it, perhaps I should leave it that way! In Thai, 5 is pronounced HA, so 555 is hahaha. And BAT (spelled Baht) is Thai currency.  555... And in Japanese it's go go go. Which makes it three times faster than the Citroen Xsara, which I just discovered used the "Go!!!!" to replace the Gauloises cigarette branding. I had always wondered about all those exclamation marks. Huh, I've always wondered about that. What kind of company is GO!!!!!!! anyway?  :D Makes much more sense that it's just censoring a tobacco logo.

Isn't Techland the guys that originally made Dead Island? Moving to a Dakar game is super weird. They also made Xpand Rally, so it's not completely out of nowhere.

I honestly don't see GRAVEL being all that successful, not sure why CM is bothering competing with it. I don't know, maybe it's a bigger market than I'm aware of, but I personally don't see it. Can ANYONE on the Dirt team say SOMETHING about Dirt 4 besides the usual Twitter marketing stuff? My faith in this company has gone from 100 to 0 over the course of this year and it's really disappointing when something brilliant like Dirt Rally turns out to be a flash in the pan because the community gets ignored.

Source? If they gonna move to a new Engine, it's the right time to make sure that the Engine supports Modding. Literally the first time someone has asked for a source for something in the gossip thread. Source?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I feel like your English has been getting worse as time goes on. But that's another story. When the majority of people are having issues and it's either unknown or unclear whether or not my wheel will work, much less my peripherals, that's called a $40 crapshoot. It's got nothing to do with past titles (except they're also broken.) With wheels like the ever popular Logitech G-series and the TM brand being either completely broken, wrong, or unusable I'm not buying into it with my oft skipped Fanatec GT2 with separate peripherals. That's lunacy. That doesn't even factor in whether or not it'll function properly/smoothly on my PC given all the optimization issues about 50% of the userbase has. It also doesn't take in the varying reviews that people are giving when it does work. You say it's great, @Rallycameraman says it's garbage and there's people in between that say the FFB is terrible. And you basically stated you HAD to spend 8 hours to get it to feel right. I'm not doing that. I almost immediately refunded Dirt 4 because it didn't initially support my wheel until I figured out their goofy menu system. If Steam had a reasonable refund policy or the Devs had a history of fixing **** and making it work, yeah, I'd buy into it, but neither of those is true and I'm not keen on losing out on my money. It's got nothing to do with fanboy or not, but your saying I should buy it solely based on your experience from the minority of the userbase. Although there is credit due to "These guys have proven themselves incompetent more than a few times, and it's unlikely to change." I'll tell you a little secret, I'll buy a game that A. Works, and B. I enjoy. WRC7 so far is sketchy at best on both fronts. If you don't want to buy the game, just don't buy it. No need to start an argument/rant about it. Dgeesi0 likes the game, so what? It's not like he's demanding that you buy it.

Steam reviews are saying performance is a bit crummy right now, but I like what I hear from you guys about the gameplay. I'll keep my eye on it I think. Sad to say Dirt 4 didn't win me over, mainly due to the stages. I'm willing to accept a slightly less realistic handling model as long as it feels somewhat believable and the stages are varied and interesting. Not too impressed by the audio, but it's not the *worst* thing in the world. Ever since Dirt Rally, every other racing game's audio has sounded like crap to me. Thanks, @soundfx!

I'm glad we can talk positively about competing games on this forum without getting banned. I feel like that wouldn't fly on other racing game forums.

That's what I thought it would do as well. I'm disappointed that the final product boils down to just "forest section" or "open section" with a handful of road tiles. That's why I bring up the Xpand Rally method, with today's tech it could be possible to make a map big enough and with a complex enough road network that simply blocking off various junctions to make stages may be good enough. The repeating tiles in Your Stage feels wrong because you're not actually driving though the same location multiple times, but if you drive through a premade map, the repetition might feel more natural since you know you're driving through an actual location (if that makes sense).  Maybe there could even be premade sections scattered around with procedural roads inbetween? Also, if the stages are made by blocking specific junctions, it would be easy to incorporate an actual stage creator, where people can make their own route through the map.

It's worth mentioning the system Xpand Rally used, and I don't think any other rally game has used it since. They made a large, square map of a location, with a full road network like there would be in the real world, and each stage is created by placing barriers at different junctions to make a route through the map. It certainly has its limitations, but it's an interesting way of doing it.

Haha, wow. Guess I should've figured that no ones seen that movie... as AWESOME as it is. You guys kind of suck. If you want to get STAIGHT to the quote, go to 1:20. Ahh makes more sense now. Never seen that movie, but recognize that it was parodied in the Post-Credit Scene of Deadpool...   it's something :) Look at me, I'm Mary Poppins Y'all !  I've said it before and I'll say it again, old movies are better. Surprised at how many know AIPLANE! but not Ferris Bueller. It's on my Netflix watch list! Need to see it. We need to create a list of movies like that. I've liked that from the few minutes I seen it. My HDD failed today, or shall I say don't mess with diskpart if you aren't sober. Selected wrong disk, wrong partition and wrong command, without hesitation pressed enter because some moron in Microsoft thought it's okay to make changes to HDD without a confirmation. testdisk did it's job but i've lost the MBR part of disk. BIOS won't detect it even though it's mountable in Debian and it installed the system without a single problem. Have to format it so I've finally got a reason to upgrade to SSD. Gonna take 2x125GB tomorrow to finally separate my Unix and Win system + data on two 1TB HDDs. Uh, that was a hell boring/stressful friday evening.  /E: If that wouldn't be enough the reinstall and diskpart was caused by 2 BSODs and 2 F13 cause of completely stucked at D4. Not sure if my GPU isn't faling as well, but there wasn't anything prompting that way in Debian.... when it was still installed. I've also had 4 fails of Nvidia drivers in past 3 days. Never happened to me. Gonna buy some thermal paste and clean my graphic card as well tomorrow. Hell, it will be torn apart, why not make a general cleanup. Sorry for missing "n", i don't have that key in my old laptop :D The upgrade to SSD is absolutely 100% worth it. My options for a movie list would include Ferris Buellers Day Off, Uncle Buck, AIRPLANE!, Caddyshack, City Slickers, Blues Brothers, Fifth Element, Spaceballs, Galaxy Quest, Surfs Up, Blazing Saddles, The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 22 1/2, The Naked Gun 33 1/3, Just about anything else with Leslie Nielson, The Marx Brothers, and Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. The Princess Brides decent too. Those are just the essentials. Quote from those on a day to day basis. Relevant fact: In the kid's bedroom in The Princess Bride, there's a poster of an RS200 on the wall. :p

I came here to complain about how the crosskarts are worthless in landrush finding your post suddenly, haha. Though he says specifically its not made for landrush. I hope he updates it. I found the crosskarts very fun to drive in landrush, moreso than the buggies personally. They're a bit trickier in RX because of the tighter tracks, but I like how they're snappy. It makes for some pretty high-intensity racing when you can point-and-shoot them through the corners more aggressively than bigger cars.
