  1. If you look at the combined price of Lambert and Balotelli though, they could have spent £22 million on 1 quality player (I'm sure they had a little more, maybe even £30 million on one top striker) and then brought in a cheaper player who was young or something. I'd rather have 1 top striker than 2 bang average ones. As United have proved this season, quality wins you games because the best players take their chances when it matters.

  2. I agree, his fans are some of the most stupid. Although tbh I've never been on a German or Spanish forum so I can't really compare it with Vettel or Alonso fans.
The thing that bothers me too is his celebrity appearance. He isn't like Vettel or Alonso in that regard. He always wears sunglasses, he is a wannabe American, he takes his dog to race weekends, he wears a snapback for his official hat, he always wears gangster stuff.

I feel like if testing was open at all times, Vettel and Alonso would be out on track (Like Schumacher) a lot and Hamilton would do a few laps, then change into some swag and go hang out with his celebrity friends for the rest of the day.

  3. I wouldn't say Balotelli done well at Man city, he was very average. At City he got 30 goals in 80 games, and in total he's had 90 in 235. That is not even a goal every 2 games. Lambert last year got 14 in 39, not too bad considering his team was 8th but still average. Balotelli got 18 in 41 last year in a league that most would consider worse than England, Spain and Germany. His last City season saw him get just 3 in 20 games.

Are either of those players really starting 11 players for a UCL and BPL campaign? Doubt it, at least not right now with Balotelli.  He isn't a Suarez, Falcao, RvP, Diego Costa type player. He might score a ridiculous goal every now and again and maybe a goal in an important cup match, but if you need a consistent scorer, he isn't really the guy looking at those stats. A goal every 2 games is a minimum for a striker in the top 4 of the BPL. I mean RvP last year got 18 in 28 (All competitions), in a season where he was supposed to have not been that good.

  4. You say that it is tougher with the UCL, but he knew that and should have bought the quality players he needed. Having 1 good/UCL standard striker is just stupid. Sturridge is good sure, but there are other issues that he has failed to address, much like Wenger. He lost Suarez and bought Balotelli + Lambert. Both of those players are 10 goals a season players (if that) and Suarez was probably 30 in his own. He bought Lovern, who ok had a good season and was looking good. Moreno is another buy where it was justified and he's also young.

What he needed to buy was a top class CB too though judging by what I've seen today and a goalscorer. Oh and a top CDM to replace Gerrard because he's past it. He ain't Giggs.

Also - United have tons of injuries, something we thought we'd avoid by not playing UCL (I know the players get more rest and training without UCL but injuries are important too). And look where United are without any kind of solid defensive partnership. 3-0 today and that's without Di Maria, Falcao fully recovered, a Blind out, Rojo out, Smalling out, Rafael out and Herrera not starting. All of those players would walk into that Liverpool side, that's how much quality we're missing. Although Rafael and Smalling are a little inconsistent to be called quality, but still better than Evans and Tony V at CB and RB.

Rodgers doesn't really have an excuse, he knew what he was facing this year.

  5. I do love the sound of the V8's but during the race at Silverstone this year I didn't stand there thinking about sound to be honest. I'd rather have Mercedes, Renault and Honda in the sport than V8's back really. In some ways it was quite nice to hear the crowd during the races due to lower engine noise.

Personally, I would've kept both Magnussen and Button and told Alonso to suck it. You're not going to win the championship next year anyway.

But at least Button stays in F1. His excellent performances this season probably broke the deal.

If you'd keep Magnussen over Alonso its probably a good job you're not in a position to make that kind of decision
It's easy to say that. You're not taking into account the possibility of Magnussen developing and Alonso declining. We saw it happening rather quickly with Grosjean and Raikkonen. Alonso in 2014 wasn't as good as Alonso in 2012. The first signs of one's speed dropping is his qualifying performances. That dropped dramatically for Alonso in recent seasons. He has changed his style into one based more on consistency and intelligence than on explosive pace. That aspect is gone. Going back to Raikkönen, last season he was leading the championship out of consistency in the first couple of races. Grosjean was nowhere to be seen. Then Grosjean found a way to get his explosive pace from 2012 back without crashing all the time and Raikkönen couldn't keep up at all. And Kimi's driving style, how it developed over time, is looking scarily similar than Alonso's, except for it happening faster. So assuming that the first real shot at winning the title happens in 2016, by that time Magnussen could've been in a position to regularly beat Alonso. That is, if McLaren truly believed in his reputation as a future World Champion. Apparently they don't. Sensible long-term planning would've meant sticking by Magnussen at all costs.

Also, if 2015 is going to be a year of development, Button would be more suitable than Alonso, who in his years at Ferrari never got the repuation as a driver that contributes greatly to the development of his car as the season progresses. Alonso is purely the driver they need to get results, but in 2015, there is a big chance they won't be in a position to get winning results on a regular basis anyway. They don't desperately need Alonso, but his reputation means it's irresistible to pass up on him. By demoting Magnussen, McLaren is acknowledging that they messed up and that trying to do a Red Bull is something they cannot do. It makes Hamilton's success look more like a fluke for their Academy. And signing Alonso is yet again a risk that could backfire real hard on them. Their relationship has been rocky in the past to say the least and as Vettelfan showed, it's not that farfetched to think he won't jump ship for 2016 because at this point he's desperate to be in the best car.

So long story short, 2015 is probably going to be more about development, so keeping Button for that, while also keeping Magnussen to lead them in the seasons beyond 2015 would be the best choice. Now we have a situation where you don't know if Alonso is willing to stay for much longer than a year and whether Magnussen is ready by the team he does leave.
If anything Alonso is getting better all the time. He's a better driver than he was when he won his championships. You say Alonso isn't known for being good at developing a car, but is Button? What has JB done to develop the McLaren over the last 2 years, if anything the McLaren was worse this year than 2013.

Also, of course Alonso wants a Mercedes. Saying he could jump ship at the end of the year if a Mercedes seat appears is kind of silly. If Kevin or Jenson were offered a McLaren or a Mercedes at the end of 2015 they'd both take the Mercedes as well
Alonso in terms of outright speed isn't the as good as 2006 I wouldn't have thought. In terms of intelligence yeah probably 2014 Alonso is better. He probably peaked between 2010-2012 though IMO. I don't really see how someone over the age of 32 can be "improving all the time". Sure, he is still the best on the grid but Hamilton will surpass him on that one very soon IMO.

  7. I think you put an extra "o" by mistake mate

Also, De Gea is arguably the 3rd best keeper around right now, I wouldn't say Neuer is "on another level". Better, yes but anyone would be happy with either of them in their goal. You'd love De Gea right now, don't deny it ;)

  8. They should keep their own number, it is all about recognition and branding. If Hamilton took the No.1 and then won the next 4 titles with it, you'd think of 1 before 44. Vettels had the No.1 for over half of his career for example rather than No.5 so most of the images of his cars or his team wear is all No.1.

I want them all to stick with their numbers.
