Right here is the idle temps of my PC from about 5 minutes ago.

Good or bad?

Right, might upload some pics later, just got to edit something first. I only have 2 complaints with my PC, firstly the case isn't really wire friendly, the PSU cables are quite big so it doesn't look very roomy in there and secondly, I had to cut some of the plastic casing off of my HDMI cable (the bit that is just behind the bit that gets plugged in) because a small metal ridge was obstructing the area at the top of the HDMI socket.
Case is nice though. My PC managed to get Very high graphics in 1080p on Archeage :) -
The only reason it annoyed me is that Project CARs was only like 1-2 months off of launch and I was excited. -
So I built my PC today, took me about 2-3 hours and it works fine! Just got to install GPU and CPU drivers (Is that it?) and I'll be good to go for Civ BE tomorrow :D
Oh and I need my external hard drive for all my steam files and save data, but yeah. Then I just need to download Minecraft again plus a few other bits.
Happy so far, as long as it doesn't overheat/catch fire. -
An arguement that doesn't involve me :o -
-
Yeah, It'd only really be a few, the TES games I have, Civ V, Warband etc. Games like that.
I'm pretty sure I have this figured out then, C&P the Steamapps and steam exe. folder over to my new HDD, then find all of the Save games in their folders in my old PC, C&P that over too, then done. Hopefully -
How can I keep all my save data though? Like for a game like Skyrim or Mount and Blade Warband?Hughesy said:
That's download speed bud, upload speed would be much slower, thus it would be quicker to download them not matter what ;)AMS97KRR said:I have pretty quick internet - 30-50mb depending on time of day. The folder is 204 GB :open_mouth:
If I just copy the Steam Apps folder over, will it have all my game data and games? If not does anyone know how to do it? Sorry, I ask a lot of questions :p -

Would it even be possible to copy specific folders from the steam apps - common folder onto a usb, then when I re install steam, copy those files into the new steam apps folder? -
I don't have a proper external hard drive - just an 8GB Flash drive :p
Maybe what I could do is use some kind of file sharing method? it is over 130 GB so it might be tricky, but is it at all possible? -
Nice case! Not too much point me having a clear side tbh, the clear side would face away from where I sit, although it would be cool to have. I do like the more over the top looking cases, but that one looks cool, simplistic and sleek.
Hopefully all of my bits come before Friday, that way I can get it all together and ready for Civ BE! Shouldn't take too long to put together, seems pretty straight forward, I bought an anti static band just in case too. I need to download everything again though :( Like Steam, Archeage Client and stuff like that. Is there any easy way around that one? :p

I've gone ahead and bought the one of off Ebuyer that I got off of PC part picker (Legit Windows 7). Everything bought now :D Should all be here by the end of the week!
I bought W7 again because most people will want something that is ready to go (Have no network card by default though, I'm using a wifi USB thing, they'll have to buy one). Hopefully I can sell it soon, it is near Christmas so hopefully it'll have a goo chance to sell.
Also, hoping to get this at Christmas:

Ok, so I've ordered everything except the Windows 7. I cannot find anyway to keep it on my old PC and my new one, so where is the cheapest place to buy Home premium? I've looked on ebay and found this, but not sure if it is going to work on my PC

Ok, I've decided to go with the shark ones, the others are a bit too much for 3 of them. 1 is already included, with space for two more, so do I want 2 sharks or 3 sharks (replace the existing one)?
This is how it is looking now

I got told to buy these in case too:

Cheers, for the help, one last thing though, how many fans should I buy, and which ones? :)RevolvingPrawn said:
Nah you don't even have to say a word :p It's all automated. When Windows tells you you need to activate, just choose the phone option and the telephone number you need to ring will come up on-screen with about 12 boxes filled with numbers. You need to type the numbers in on the phone, then the robot reads a bunch back to you that you put into your pc, and when you click done/next/finish it should then activate :)AMS97KRR said:
Ah, I have to just tell them that I changed motherboard because it broke right?RevolvingPrawn said:Did you buy a disc or digital copy of Windows? Either way, just wipe the HDD in the PC you wanna sell, install your copy of Windows on the new PC and if it asks just say that it's only installed on one machine. When it's installed just reactivate it using the phone method, takes about 5 minutes and you're all good. I've done it a bunch of times :)
As for price, £250 seems reasonable to me.
Also, do you know what cables I will need to buy and what Thermal paste is good?
With thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 without a doubt. Also best when you're applying it to just put a small blob in the middle (see pic below) and press the heat sink down onto it. It'll spread the paste for you evenly and without air bubbles. Whatever you do, don't listen to anyone that says you need to spread it first lol :)
Oh and cables, you might need a SATA cable or 2, but usually the motherboard has 1 in the box. Best to be prepared though and buy 2 just in case. That should be it really!
Ok, I spoke to someone else, and they directed me on it, is this good to go -

(Overriden a few things, price was not much different) -

But I doubt many people would want a PC without a HDD
I found windows for £44 on Amazon, the HDD in that build is £37, that makes £81 for a HDD and OS. I guarantee my HDD is not as good as that one. I think having a HDD with Windows installed would make it more appealing tbh. I don't know how it works out financially though... -
I already bought windows last time, shame I cannot use it again...At least I'm pretty sure I cannot. -
I'll have to see how much I can sell my old PC for.
It has a Radeon 6670 HD (I'll have to check the GB and GDDR), FX-6100 (Again, have to check details), 1TB memory, 8GB RAM, WINDOWS 7 only 18 months old. Pretty nice case too (I'll link a PC with the same case below). What kind of price range am I looking at really? I was thinking around £250-£300 but then I'm not expert.

I say it is 18 months old, the first 4 or 5 months didn't see much use as I didn't have too many games, so really it has had less than that in terms of usage regularly -
Cheers, the only thing I would ask is that, is it possible to simply change the r9 270 for the r9 270x? Only £12 more, looks decent too. The rest of it looks good though :D
(With the r9 270x + Windows 7)

OK cheers mate, I'll be back to have a look at like 10ish  -
I'd be OK building it myself I think, I put a more basic one together in IT at college, plus there is a ton of tutorials online.RevolvingPrawn said:I'd say the i7 is the winner, no doubt about that: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4790-vs-AMD-FX-8350
And you would notice a difference. I upgraded from the 8320 to an i7 4770K and it made a pretty big difference! The 6100 is a little bit above entry level, but that i7 is high end for sure. What you might find lets you down is that GPU, it's not all that powerful tbh. You could deffo play games at medium graphics, no doubt about that, but try and push it higher at 1080p and you'll find it struggles.
Also I wouldn't really trust buying one without an OS from Ebay. I've done it before myself, and it's extremely barebones so you'll end up having to buy more parts anyway. It'll come with few, if any case fans for example, the cable management won't be all that good, and most parts they haven't advertised will be extremely low grade.
What would be the absolute max you could spend? And would you feel comfortable building it yourself?
If you have time, could you put together a PC on PC part pickers at about £480 £520 without an OS so I could get an idea of what to look for? If you haven't got time, I'll have a look on reddit for someone, so its fine if you don't want too.
Someone I know from College thinks EBay is OK, so I'm not too sure, although I'm inclined to believe you.
Medium is OK really, my 6670 would only get low on 1080p I reckon -
The Intel one is better, although I'm not sure if it worth the extra £80...
Would you say that for example the fx-6100 is entry level and the i7 4790 is say medium-high? I'm not entirely sure where components stand overall
Other than the CPU, is it that much better (the more expensive one)?
