To be fair the default livery for each car is pretty good, clearly a copycat of a licensed design.

art of rally - Available now on Steam, GOG and Epic!

Totally agree they are pretty good. Some of them are even based on less known, real world liveries too

I wonder if there is any livery mod in the PS4/PS5 version. With that photo mod, it could be a masterpiece.

No, there aren't livery mods in any of the console versions of AoR

I'll just correct one thing... The locations in WRC10 either have 1 long stage that can be run in reverse which has been cut into two and reversed to make up the remaining stages (you also have a SSS which is nice) or they have 1 extremely long stage that can be run in reverse which has been cut into three parts and reversed to make up the remaining stages (with the additional SSS).
The shakedown each location has is a shorter section of one of the short stages.

I'll look up the article that mentioned the DLC after dinner.

EDIT: Can't find the article anymore unfortunately. Didn't save the link.

Well yeah. I did some further research and that's the sad true, still trusting in the old "create a long stage and chop it into pieces" trick.

It just makes me sad that rally games devs just rely on that nowadays when creating their games...

Firstly, I'll focus on the base games. DR2.0 had 6 completely new locations with 12 stages each and a range of brand new cars as well. Yes, WRC10 has more locations but it does have less stages per location, though. Between 7 and 11, shakedowns not included as it's similar to what's in DR2.0 and the shakedowns in that game are not included in the number.

WRC10, on the other hand, has a lot of stages which are recycled from their previous titles and just 4 locations with stages that are completely new, if I'm not mistaken? Correct me if I'm wrong.

In addition, KT Racing and Alain Jarniou have said that more content will come to WRC10 in the future, not referring to the free major update patches but rather paid DLC content.

Okay so I was not going to respond to anything WRC10 related but I am starting to see a trend here. A worrying one.

So WRC10 has a lot of things to improve. A. LOT. That is undeniable honestly. Sounds have improved but could be way better, the cars' models, physics that lend themself more to the arcade side of things (and that's fine) but the Legend cars suffer a lot from being too 4WD and too much the same from one to other car. The Jon Armstrong AI thing, which in my opinion is one of the most stupid decissions they could have taken (and a total disrespect towards him). And other things I may have not noticed.

But on the pure content side:

Yes, WRC10 has reused stages from previous games sadly this is the most typical issue with yearly licensed motorsport games, even tho they could perfectly choose to recreate different stages for different years. But let's not forget that DR2.0 has, for every location, just 2 stages, which are then splited into other 2 smaller stages, and this has been a long standing issue of the DiRT series sadly, while at least the WRC franchise has unique stages instead of reusing the same map.

And as much as it is true the WRC10 DLC prices are out of hand, where does it say there will be paid DLC content other than what is already there on the store? All news I could find plus the game's very own Steam page mention 2 new rally events and 4 cars coming as free DLC, not paid. Unless there is anything I am missing there.

  5. Two new Delta HF liveries, both from the H.F. Grifone driver Fabrizio Tabaton, and both from 2 editions of the ERC event Rally El Corte Ingles.

1989 event livery, the typical H.F. Grifone Esso livery, but in plain white. The car would only last a couple of stages before Tabaton had to retire after an accident:

1991 event livery, this time in the typical H.F. Grifone Esso colours. This would be the first time the Italian won the Spanish event after 5 years taking part in it:

I think i'd be (pleasantly) surprised if they *did* announce the next rally game tomorrow.

Remember until they get the license (they do not have it yet) they're not really able to do stages modelled after current WRC stages, that was a big grey area last i heard.

As for what's hopefully coming, i'd say photo mode is going to be there, graphics will always improve, just to what degree and dynamic weather with physics changes will be high on the list as well.

Maybe we'll see stage length/creation improvements, they've always said how long it takes to make stages, they *have* to have been working on something there!  Assuming it's possible that is.

I agree with you that I would be suprised if they announce it today, that would be unexpected.

On the stages topic, well, while many people can be attracted to a WRC-based (kind of) stage, there are many rally events out there with beautiful scenary and stages that could be used for a rally game, and I think it would be a refreshing touch for the rally genre, not the same WRC locations of always, and personally for me, as I've expressed before, it's always been a shame that the DiRT Rally team haven't taken advantage of this particular circumstance.

  7. Well that's quite the setup 😅

Makes me wonder, if technology is supposed to make things smaller than, say, 20 years ago (like mobile phones, cameras...), but they need all that "monstrosity" to record the stages, what kind of setup did the Mobil 1 Rally Championship (Rally Championship 2000) devs needed to record the stages back in 1999? That game, in its PC version, had the stages recreated 1:1

I just thought of something else I'd like to see in the next Dirt Rally title.

What do you think of having the option to drive from the entrance of the service park to your tent and park the car on the blocks?
And then also being able to drive out of the service park.

What about being able to drive on the podium?

And finally, driving from stage to stage on the public roads would be awesome as well!
You know, something along the lines of driving on the public roads like you do in Euro or American Truck Simulator.

That last one might be a bit of a stretch but the first two shouldn't be too hard to implement, right?

    So much this!

This idea has been around my head for quite a long time, like the whole idea. Even having to take into account the hours of the time controls. Yeah, I know, too much asking probably but still... (well, we have online rallys on that other sim, and we can have things like these, so it is a fix).

Pirelli is the supplier for at least WRC and R5 cars in the championship since this year.
I read that just a few days ago somewhere.

Don't think so. It's an ARA event so I don't think that rule applies here (in fact, ARA has a partnership with Cooper and Hoosier tires, so I don't think they are enforcing competitors to use Pirelli)

My best bet is that since it is a McKenna car, and Barry has been running the Fabia on Pirellis, Block just sticked to them (or maybe Toyo doesn't have a tire fit for the Fabia, something I doubt)

Wait what? Did I miss something somewhere?

Is there a "3" somewhere on the livery of Jon's new car or what?

@JorritVD Explain yourself! WHAT IS IT!

Nah, people doing theories like if this was an MCU movie 🤣

Hi guys! I'm in need of some help. I'm trying to make a livery for the Golf Kit Car, so I'm using the Peugeot 208 R2 as the "donor" car to show the livery. But it id giving me a headache. After replacing everything in nef file, I go to choose the car and a stage, and it goes into infinite loading the stage. I realized I had to put also a 202 folder with the livery, as if I was putting a moded livery on a car from the base game, but now the game crashes as it starts to load the stage... Any advice you could give? May it be because I'm putting the moded livery both in the nef file and the separate folder?

Any heads-up guys? Still can't load any stage when I try to put the Golf modded livery throught the 208 R2

I do understand the reason why they did it, yet I don't understand why they executed it this way.

As far as I can figure out, this is how it works:

In order to design liveries, a person would need to access to the complete car files. You can only access those files if you have bought and installed the game. That's why we can access and design liveries for the cars that are available in the base game. The DLC cars on the other hand are added content you need to pay extra for afterwards. However, the files for those cars are in the game files but are locked until you bought the content itself. Only then you can drive them in the game.

Now, to protect the content, more specifically the revenue from that content, they kept the files encrypted so that the content couldn't be released freely to the public by modders. It all comes back to money/revenue. They could've, and actually should've in my opinion, encrypted most of the files (e.g. physics, audio etc. we as livery designers don't need) but not the car textures which designers do need. I'm thinking of the main_d, main_s, glass_d, glass_s and wheel_d files. Those are pretty much the only files a livery designer would need.

If I understood it correctly, the topic was discussed after designers complained about the encryption but eventually it was decided that changing it wasn't worth the time and effort. I don't believe it would've been a major work but still, I don't make the decisions. It was said that the devs would keep this in mind for future titles, something we've heard before, so hopefully they finally address this issue during the development process of Dirt Rally 3.

@PJTierney, let me know if I'm close with my reasoning or not. And more importantly, if the issue is indeed being addressed in the development process of DIrt Rally 3, a title which is 99% confirmed.

Yeah, I understand it like you do, and I think that they should have let the livery texture files unnecrypted.

The sad trUe is the encryption didn't accomplish its goal, because the DLC cars have already been ported to other games (like Assetto), yet we still can't do livery mods on DLC cars "easily" (this is, without the need to change the .nefs files)
