  1. Ah, the old 'every current gen arcade game ever made up until the release of Grid is a bit poo because i'm the knowledge and my say is final' approach to logical reasoning.... I was going to add Crash team racing but to save you venturing down the 'that doesn't count because it features boxes full of fruit so it's applecade' path I won't bother. We'd best skip Wreckfest as well because in the eyes of the wise that's probably not an arcade racer either..
  2. Gravel. Baja: Edge of Control HD. No modern day bells and whistles, just stacks of content and pure unadulterated arcade gameplay. ....and if you want to go for all out looks then Forza Horizon 3+4 as well as FM6.
  3. After thinking about it I'm going to retract my previous statement and say that the Heat 4 v Grid comparison is highly relevant....but for another reason. It is a perfect example of how if levels of immersion are of a high enough standard then performance (within reason) and/or visual quality can be overlooked to a certain degree - a point that anyone who has played a 40 car race around Daytona in Heat 4 will probably appreciate more than those who just see NASCAR as a driving round in circles for multiple hundreds of laps simulator. As has been clearly shown in this thread Grid doesn't really excel in the visuals department and when directly compared against the career/multiplayer aspects of Racedriver Grid and the depth of content in Autosport (games that it's supposed to be paying homage to) there's no real argument for strong gameplay credentials either so, unlike Heat 4, it's neither here nor there when trying to decide where it belongs. Yes, although i'm pretty convinced Heat 4 will comfortably manage 60fps on X1X we're stuck with 30fps to maintain parity with XB1 so that's a bit disappointing. As for that weird dotted pattern thing you're absolutely right about how it smooths the motion blur but i'd still sell my soul to get rid of it because it looks real ugly. Until then......cockpit view And finally a confession... It was only this morning that I realised GAS is actually Grid Autosport lol... I honestly though it was an obscure PC game that i'd never heard of (well, they have a game called FUEL so why not GAS) and that is the excuse i'm sticking with ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Interesting choice of comparison because what the clip fails to tell you is that Heat 4 on consoles comes with 'bonus features' which include multiple rendering issues, severe framerate drops, micro-stuttering and (in 'performance' mode) some quite horrific screen tearing. From my 6000+ laps of this game I could tell you stories that would send shivers up your spine and make you wish you were playing the game on the right ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. SMS employ 175 people throughout it's entire organisation and Codemasters employ 470. In comparison with it's competitors SMS is a small AAA development team who make great games once they've had 300gb of updates applied to them
  6. Project Cars 2 was also put together on a restricted budget with a small development team using an old but modified game engine (the Madness engine was used for NFS Shift on X360). Countless circuits + cars, dynamic weather, top drawer graphics with subtle lighting, CPL's, and options for visual configuration (which makes a world of difference) on consoles is what they delivered so, you know, anything is possible if you give it your best shot. Sorry, I don't really think that you have a solid ground for argument with that one...
  7. Ah, I didn't know that and thanks for bringing it up. I'm interested to know if the DLC was made available on XB1 when it became backwards compatible because if the circuits were integrated into career mode it would be a worthwhile purchase. Not only that, I would also get to compare visual difference between new and old on consoles...
  8. Maybe so.... But night circuits in Autosport are restricted to specific classes and from what i've seen (or looked for) it doesn't have one single street (city) track at night. So where Autosport is concerned it is indeed "not many".... and with this very flimsy evidence for my defence I rest my case m'lud ๐Ÿ™‚
  9. Not many.... But yes there were. https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/boris-the-frog/video/79930512
  10. I'm not saying it's controversial at all - after all, I have been actively contributing my concerns over lighting on consoles since what feels like the dawn of time. All I was saying is that all valid (yes, they are valid) points have now been covered and things starting to go round in circles so to save the inevitable bickering from nay sayers and more importantly for the sake of this thread not getting deleted (again) it might be better to wait until further developments occur before continuing the conversation. After all, there's plenty more to discuss and this is far too an important thread to lose. The rest was just humour/sarcasm - something which i'm sure they've invented in your part of the world To further add, i've also been arguing HDR lighting in Dirt Rally 2 - a point that seems to fall on deaf ears because it appears to be the case that, in the eyes of Codemasters, consoles are way too unimportant for any level of consideration - so I am fully aware of visual deficiencies (not bugs) in other Codemasters games as well....... Treasure Island Dizzy also suffered from colour clash so we can go even further back if you like ๐Ÿ˜ณ

    Welcome to the new GRID

Sorry, that made me laugh... Codemasters have been doing community challenges like, erm, forever, so it was a bit amusing to see the "good idea" thing ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. I was just thinking.... You don't really seem to be playing the game very much so for the ยฃ65 you could probably have bought a digital camera and gone outside to take pics of real trees and real streets with real lighting ๐Ÿ˜‹. Because most points seem to have been pretty much covered I think the graphics thing has probably run it's course so c'mon man, get playing 'properly' and tell us about the gameplay/longevity side of things. I want to know if it's still worth playing after 10-15 hours or if it's as grindy/boring as people are starting to say.
  13. The exact same image as we see it on consoles (untouched 4k / X1X) https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/boris-the-frog/screenshot/13191027 You will notice one or two thing immediately - and those things directly point to the fact that when considering variations in quality of games it's important to remember that we on consoles don't see what you see because we don't have the benefit of using our consoles (where applicable) to their maximum capabilities like you PC guys have, so sometimes differing opinions will occur. The exact same applies to Grid 2019. When people see comparable screenshots and think; "hey, those Grid 2019 shots are loads better" it's said for a very specific reason, so with that in mind it is kind of unfair for those with better hardware utilisation capabilities to simply dismiss others using alternative (less accessible) hardware with a token "you're wrong" reply without asking reasons as to why these opinions differ. Having now seen the game (as well as having other comparable games) I will full on admit that the *street circuits* in Grid 2019 are by far and away the best i've ever seen on consoles and minor graphics infractions are of little relevance because until we are also given the opportunity to tinker with our tools, so to speak, they are already part and parcel of our consoles anyway. That is the reason as to "why".....
  14. For definite. Apart from been a bit on the dark side and a little soft (blurry), with the extra details (crowds, canopies over the windows etc) it feels more atmospheric and gives a greater feeling that a bunch of psychotic racedrivers are on their way.....and the tree looks nicer. If I were a squirrel then yeah, I would happily build a squirrel house in those branches ๐Ÿ˜‹
  15. Ok, i'll ask the question... Which is which? Lol ๐Ÿ™‚... But whichever way round they are, of these 6 pics I prefer (from top to bottom) left, right (purely for the detail on that building), left.... So left wins 2-1 Do I win a medal or am I a bad girl for picking Grid 2019... The suspense is killing me

    GRID - Mode/Feature/Content Suggestions

I'd like to see a roadbook outlining Codemasters intentions regarding taking the game forward. Not just the usual 'xx DLC on yy day' but a greater degree of transparancy as to what they're actively looking into to improve upon gameplay and features

    Welcome to the new GRID

Lol, it's crazy how things work. I once ordered a limited edition Midnight Oil t-shirt from Australia that took 14 weeks to arrive. Congrats to the swimmer who delivered it (either that or there is a moon circulating Jupiter called Australia) but the wait was terrible so I understand your pain. Sad thing is, it was the wrong size.. So, anyone who wants a size small limited edition 'palm print' Midnight Oil T-shirt (black) need look no further ๐Ÿ™‚

    Welcome to the new GRID

No i'm cool. Your input is equally as important as everyone else's (otherwise there would never have been any discussion or counter discussion) ๐Ÿ™‚ But please, bear in mind... After seeing Grid on XB1S many other of those negative comments don't seem too far wrong. I'm not even convinced it's running at 60fps - but that's something for you guys to discuss.

    Welcome to the new GRID

With all due respect you really do need to think about what you're saying every now and again. My concern remains true and unaltered and unlike some I don't feel the need to negatively argue *every single thing that I don't agree with*. As I have stated a multitude of times and as I fully appreciate my comments are read by an intellectually diverse set of individuals, for the benefit of those who are placed towards the lower end of this scale I will say it one more final time. I will even type slowly so as not to confuse and overwhelm. Ready? My sole issues concerning Grid 2019 were enforced/overdone lighting on consoles and content of the base game. One was reflective of how Codemasters were intending to bring the game forward from Autosport and the other a more recent reference towards documented issues surrounding the artificial lighting displayed in Dirt Rally 2. To post release summarise: Firstly, I've just spent the past 4 hours playing Grid at a friend's house (sadly only on an XB1 S) and whilst I do have other gameplay doubts - one of which, FFB, has already been mentioned - they are not my concerns. What I do now know is that unfortunately this lighting thing still persists. Secondly (and this is the easy one) every single *industry* review I have read have echoed my sentiments about track content been a bit on the thin side and because of that I remain unconvinced as to how long it's going to take for 'compulsive' to reduce to 'passive' where gaming is concerned. To further add: Although I did spend 4 hours playing the game (and would happily have spent more time playing it), on leaving I didn't have an overwhelming desire to go out and immediately buy it. With all those things in mind my comments were completely valid. To add, i've played Grid on XB1 S (not my preferred choice of weapon but c'est la vie) so I will tell you this for free and hope that to save any potential future embarassment you take it on board: "You need to be very, very careful about what you say because not everything has the benefit of 'ultra' settings....." On that note I have to wrap things up because I appreciate that with the release of Grid this forum has now become a place for owners to discuss mattters in hand so it would be inappropriate for me to add further comment. Happy gaming though. "flaming"... Haha, that's almost as funny as Konami asking ยฃ39.99 for the new Contra game ๐Ÿ™‚

    Welcome to the new GRID

Well, I think you have ๐Ÿ™‚ Assuming the plethora of new videos are from the retail copy then the PC version looks pretty nice - although I would like to see some more of the sunset racing because that didn't look too good at all. It's going to be interesting to see how it fares on consoles.

    Welcome to the new GRID

The 'dirty gossip' thread is approaching 1,500 pages with over a million hits so size isn't the issue. I would hate to think that it's got something to do with censorship because Grid is going live tomorrow and it's not in the best interests of the game to have a thread like that hanging around. Quite disappointing really because I was looking forward to seeing which of the two warring factions would have had the honour of saying "I told you so" ๐Ÿ˜›

    Welcome to the new GRID

Why is Grid ยฃ45 on Steam and ยฃ55 on Microsoft store? Considering it's exactly the same game and released at exactly the same time it seems to be an incredibly poor gesture towards those who buy it on consoles. And no, it's not Microsoft who set the prices on XBox marketplace - I've already had that conversation with customer support over a game that magically increased in price by ยฃ5 over the course of 24 hours.

    WRC 9

It's only addictive through the novelty period and once you've put in 10-15 hours (as I now have) the enthusiasm to want to complete more than one rally at a time isn't really there. Interesting how nobody has spotted the same glaring oversight with the AI difficuly that was present in WRC7... It's not game breaking but it can be pretty annoying. Answers on a postcard ๐Ÿ™‚
